Chapter 10

1184 Words
Charlotte Charles left to go talk to Ally. I don't know what is going to happen to them because of this but what I do know is that Ally is going to hate me a lot more because of this. The sun is now fully raised and I am still on the swing and Charles still didn't return. It's been so long. Where is he, is his conversation with Ally so intriguing? It broke my heart to see them together, but there was little I could do about it. They're in love. Just then, a notification popped up on my phone. It was from Ally. She sent me this voice message. I didn't want anything to do with her and whatever she sent, it wasn't going to be anything good but I clicked on it anyway. Ally's voice rang from the phone, "Good, did you miss me?" "yep," Charles answered. Tears flood through my eyes. Charles misses Ally. This was no surprise to me considering how in love they were with each other but that doesn't make this hurt any less. Charles and I are soon going to get married because of his grandparent's will and here he is missing another girl. He is going to hate me if we get married, they both are. I am the reason that they can't be together and our years of friendship will fade away especially if we actually do get married. I decided not to answer her. It broke my heart too much, and she knew it. I decided to go inside now, it was getting a little cold out here. Deep inside, I hoped that Charles was in there maybe talking to Grandma because he was done talking to Ally a long time ago but when I came in, he was not there. Grandma was there, in the kitchen cooking. Even though she didn't have to, Grandma always loved to cook. She makes the best cookies ever. Ever since I and Charles were younger, she would sometimes visit and bake us some cookies. They are always so good, I have never tasted anything better. Grandma saw me walk in and smiled. "Excited for your wedding?" In truth, if this wedding were to happen, I would be excited. Who wouldn't be? But Charles is not in love with me, will he be excited? "Yes, Grandma. But Charles..." Before I could finish speaking, Grandma interrupted me, "Charles doesn't have a choice, dear, even if he did, he would gladly marry you." That's nice of her to say that, I just wish it were true. "Come, help me cook," Grandma says motioning to an apron. Honestly, I don't know how to cook. My parents never had the time to teach me and I never cared about cooking enough to learn. But with Grandma's encouraging smile, I walked over and got an apron to approach Grandma. Maybe I could learn to cook? It can't be that hard right? Grandma handed me something, it was something yellow and goey. In truth, I have no idea what it was. I look at Grandma perplexed. She laughs, "It's pancake batter." Oh, that makes sense. I started laughing as well. She then teaches me how to make them. I look at her closely and really try to focus so I don't mess up. She then finished making one pancake. It looked perfect as always. "It's your turn dear, by the way, these are Charles's favorite whenever he comes." She says smiling knowingly. She then got another pan, turned on the fire, and heated the pan for me. She then adds a cube of butter. When the pan was ready, she gave me a spatula, and as carefully as I could, I tried to make the pancake. Suddenly, when the batter hits the pan, some of the burning hot butter that has now turned to oil sparked up. "Ahh," I screamed and immediately backed away. It was so hot. Now I remember why I don't cook, the fire was just too much for me. Grandma just laughs, "Be careful dear." When the faze was over, I walked slowly closer to the pan just in case it sparks again. I felt like a scared kid again. I didn't really know when to flip it, so I gave it some time and just watched it to see if there were any signs. There wasn't. None that I know of. "You have to flip it," Grandma says. I jumped her voice scared me a little. Flip it, it can't be that hard to just flip a pancake over, I told myself over and over again. I took a deep breath and tried to flip the pancake. It took me a while but finally, I was able to lift it on my spatula. I felt very accomplished at that. But as I was about to flip the pancake, it slipped from the spatula and landed outside the pot. I groaned. All my hard work was gone and the worst part was, that the pancake was burnt. Grandma saw my pancake and laughed, "It's fine, we all have to learn from our mistakes." She helps me tidy it up. She then gives a stack of pancakes and some fruits. I was confused. Did she want me to put them on the table? "Decorate the pancake," She says handing me the syrup. Oh, that makes a lot more sense. I get to work, placing some butter in the middle. Some fruits here and there and some icing sugar on top. I think I saw pancakes with them before. I was at work when Charles walked down the stairs. I looked up at him and our eyes met for a split second. I immediately looked down and pretended to focus. He just kept walking as well. He soon came to the kitchen, "Morning Grandma, Charlotte." Grandma smiled at him and kissed his cheek. I merely nodded with acknowledgment. He spends a long time talking to Ally and now he just comes in here like he did nothing wrong. Charles After I finished talking to Ally, I just lay on my bed trying to sort out my feelings. I know I had to break up with her, but I didn't know how. I soon went downstairs in frustration. Charlotte was there cooking with Grandma. I didn't know she could cook. I swore our eyes met for a second before she looked away. She didn't look at me when I came over so I decided to say something. "I didn't know you could cook." I teased watching Charlotte decorate the pancake. "You don't know a lot of things," Charlotte says coldly. Was she mad? Did I do something wrong? I shrugged off the feeling and went to sit next to Grandpa who was reading a newspaper. The Denver group was on the front page for one of the newest collaborations. I glanced at Charlotte who was busy with the food. I imagine in her the future maybe one day, cooking for me or maybe our kids. We would have cute kids, wouldn't we?
