Chapter Seven

2404 Words
"Run!" My voice boomed through the forest as Dylan sprinted full speed, weaving through the trees.  The sun came up around seven and we were on hour four of training. We started at 5am and I told him we'd stop at 10 so he still had an hour to go. He hit the turn around point and once he got back to me i stopped the stop watch that was hanging around my neck.  "1 minute 57 seconds. Not bad but not where I want it. Go again!" "I like nice Blake more." He huffed before bolting back on his previous path. I kept him running for the last hour of today's training. "Okay, you're done." I grinned feeling proud at how hard I had pushed him and how well he'd done. "Finally!" He groaned putting his hand behind his head trying to breathe. "Race you back." I smirked. "Oh you're on." He started running before I could even respond, getting a head start. I was faster than him so it wasn't hard to catch the lead. We had been running for probably 5 minutes when i twisted the same ankle i had broken last week causing me to fall in a cry and since we were running so close to each other i ended up falling into Dylan pulling him down with me. "Are you okay?" He whispered laying on top of me. Suddenly I had forgotten about my ankle. And then it happened. He kissed me. I felt like fireworks, not just fireworks, like a fire erupted underneath my skin begging for his touch. Like my body would explode if he kept kissing me but would die if he stopped, like the only reason I breathed was his lips. I felt like fireworks. I didn't respond for a second overcome by surprise but then I kissed him back before I realized what was happening. I shoved him off of me with force, making him go flying and for a moment I felt bad but I got up and ran home without waiting for his response.  By the time i got home my ankle was swollen and bruised so i automatically headed to the kitchen to ice it. "Again?" Noah looked at me like I was crazy as he opened the fridge. "Shut up." "Clumsy ass." He muttered with a laugh. I gave him a dirty look and his faced scrunched with confusion. "What's got you being all sassy?" "Sorry. I just-" i cut myself off not knowing if i should tell him. "Didn't sleep well." I lied. I didn't want to be questioned since he always knew when I was lying so I immediately got up and hobbled to Amelia's bedroom. "Amy." I whined falling on her bed. "I did a bad thing." She gave me a concerned look before putting her phone down and responded. "What did you do, love bug?"  "So I was training Dylan." I started then ended up relaying the whole story. Much to my surprise Amy grinned at the end, mimicking the cheshire cat. "Finally!" She shrieked. "What do you mean finally?" "The tension between you two is so thick I could cut it with a knife. We were all waiting for one of you to make a move." "No. I just got out of it with Oliver and I refuse to be with another man who isnt my mate. I can't put myself through that again." She looked utterly confused before mumbling an "Okay." Meeting. Noah spoke through our mind link causing me to jump up and head downstairs. Even though this was a meeting of the higher ups I was still involved in everything. Once I got into Noah's office I saw him, Oliver, Dylan, and Zachary. What are they doing here? I quizzed through our mind link. He found his mate so he's alpha now. I have to admit. It hurt. "Okay. We have new information on the rogues. One of them has come forward saying they didn't want to be a part of this and asked for freedom in return for telling us what they were planning, which i granted." He started but I just zoned out. "Do we know why they are coming after us?" Zachary asked. "No, we don't. I will continue working everyday until I can provide answers but until then this is all i can give you." My brother smiled sadly as everyone listened. I felt for him, he was so excited to finally be Alpha, he had wanted it for as long as we can remember, but as soon as he becomes his wish we find out that a major attack is being organized. He feels like he can't do it and he's doing everything wrong so i feel for my brother. I waited until the meeting was dismissed but stayed behind with Noah while everyone left. "Hey." I offered a reassuring smile while putting a hand on his shoulder. He engulfed me in a hug before he could respond and we just stood there for a few minutes hugging. "I don't know what i'm doing." He whispered into my shoulder. "Can i tell you a secret?" I pulled away to have him look me in the eyes. "Nobody does. We're all just winging it, hoping we say and do the right things with fear of failure. We're all scared but Noah, you are doing an amazing job. Dad is so proud of you and I am too so stop beating yourself up. We're gonna do this together."  Noah's smile reached his eyes and he silently thanked me, knowing the moment didn't need words. I know my twin, I know everything about him, and I also know when he's scared. Noah was probably more scared then any of us but not for the same reason. He was scared of failure. He was scared of everyone hating him. He seemed so confident and put together in front of everyone else but with me he was honest. He was terrified of being alone. "How about we have an us day." I suggested. "I was actually planning on going shopping. All i have are jeans and shirts and since i am now part of the representatives of the pack i figure i should look the part."  "No, you can go shopping with Amy or Blair." He laughed. "Today we will watch movies and pig out and talk about your kiss with Dyaln. I can read your mind dear sister and yet you still try to lie to me."  After giving my twin all of the engaging details, I had fallen asleep during the third movie while Noah was still completely engrossed. "Help!" I slammed awake to someone screaming. Leo. Me and Noah both shot up and ran to the living room. Leo and Zachary had drug Ivory and Dylan into the house, both nearly lifeless. Ivory had cuts running over her entire body looking as if she had nearly bled out while Dylan had bullet wounds right next to his heart. Noah immediately fell on the floor in front of our little sister, throwing his hand over her and letting himself heal her wounds as I fell over Dylan. I saw the light emit from my hands but nothing happened. He stayed still. I kept trying while tears fell from my eyes but he didnt move. I heard Ivory get up behind me and Noah come next to me to help with his eyes wide seeing what was happening. Within a second Noah put his hand over Dylan and realized the same thing I had. He wasn't healing. "What's wrong? Why cant you fix him?" Zachary pleaded. Neither of us responded, I just sat hovering over him trying to think. Why? Why? "Noah!" He shot up, reading my thoughts before backing away.  He pushed Zachary, Leo, and Ivory away from me before I started. I held my hands above his body once again before slowly guiding the bullets that were left inside of him out. Everyone was silent as I kept my eyes closed, using every ounce of power I had in me to be as slow as possible. It took nearly two minutes but the bullets exited his skin and hovered above his body. I slowly moved my hands to the side with the silver following and let them fall to the ground at least 5 feet away from us before I began healing him again. This time it worked.  I watched his wounds slowly close and his breathing even out, soon enough his eyes were fluttering open and I fell to the ground. The world going black. "Calm down!" I heard Noah's voice radiate through the house causing me to flinch. "What do you mean calm down? She's my mate and you want me to stand here like she's not laying on the ground practically dead?" It was a voice I couldn't recognize as I had already fallen back into my dreamless sleep. "Good morning sunshine." My brother smiled meekly at me from next to me on my bed. I was about to respond when the events of yesterday came slamming into my head causing a horrific migraine.  "I know." He whispered. "I brought you hot tea on your night stand, just give it a couple of hours and you'll feel better." "How long was I out?" I whimpered pulling the pillow over my face. "It's Thursday." "What?" I shrieked then let out a cry at my self inflicted pain. "I was asleep for two days?"  "You exerted every ounce of energy in your body, B. You're lucky you weren't out longer." I knew his words were true but i was still mad at myself for not being able to handle my powers better.  "Don't think like that." He spoke sternly after hearing my thoughts. "I should've been able to handle myself Noah. If you had used your powers twice as long as i had you wouldn't have blinked twice." My voice came out quiet. "That's true. But I use mine at least once a week. You haven't since you were 18." He gave me a pained look and i felt it in my heart. He's right. I haven't used my powers in 3 years because I refused too. After i couldn't save him i thought i couldn't save anybody so i hadn't done anything with them but let them stay dormant. "Did i save him?" My voice cracked as tears started falling.  "Yeah B, you saved him." My brother wrapped his arms around me and we just laid there while I silently cried into his shoulder. He stayed in bed with me until my headache subsided and I was able to get up. I hadn't cried like that to Noah since it happened. "Noah!" I screamed at the top of my lungs while carrying Sam in the house. His body lay lifeless in my arms. "Noah!" My throat burned from the volume of my voice as my brother came barreling down the stairs. "What the hell happened?" Noah grabbed him from my arms and laid him on the couch to assess the damage.  "I didn't know! I didn't know!" I whimpered as hot thick tears rolled down my face. "We were at the park, Noah. I swear i didn't know." He ignored me while letting his hands hover over Sammy trying to heal his wounds. It wasn't working. "Blake, I need you to breathe and tell me what happened."  "We were at the park, i had him in the swing and he was playing then rogues came up. They smelled him and realized he was only half wolf. Noah they attacked him. I tried to jump in front of him but there were six of them and I couldn't go fast enough. One of them lodged a silver bullet in his chest when he attacked him." I fell on my knees as i watched Noah try and fail to heal Samuel. Tears fell from my brother's eyes as he realized what I was saying.  "No." He cried and kept trying to heal the wounds but it wasn't working. It wasn't going to work.  We can heal and save wolves but we can't raise the dead.  "What are you thinking about?" Noah asked as we made our way down stairs. "Sam." Neither of us spoke after that. "Hey sweety, how are you feeling?" My mom pulled me into a hug after we made our way downstairs. Her and our father were sitting on the couch with worried expressions. "Im okay, mom." I smiled and her grip loosened.  "From now on once a week Noah is going to help you work on your powers. We can't have something like that happening again." My father spoke with dominance but fear in his voice. "Okay." I complied. It was just then that I saw Oliver, Ivory, Dylan, Leo, and Zachary sitting on the other couch. Dylan's eyes were burning holes in me as his gaze never left my eyes. Noah and I sat down on the loveseat before he began to speak. "Two days ago there was an attack." Noah began. "The rogues got wind of the girl who told us everything and killed her. Leo and Ivory were in the woods when Dylan and Zachary ran into them at the same time as a group of rogues. Dylan took the brunt of it trying to protect everyone else but as you remember Ivory was severely hurt." I watched our little sister cringe at the memory. "Everyone is okay now but we can not let this attack go unnoticed. We held a meeting yesterday while you were unconscious and we must retaliate." "No." I jumped to my feet and opposed. "Doing that just shows that we are as bad as them and it allows for a future attack which will bring worse outcomes to both of our packs. That is just asking for someone to get killed Noah." "If we don't then it makes them think we are weak and an easy prey. We can not let them target us and come after us again in our forest let alone our own homes." His words made sense but i still couldn't shake the feeling in my stomach that this was a bad idea. I sat down and silently listened to Noah's plan of attack. This was not going to end well.
