Chapter 2

1004 Words
Sophie I still remember the day Gray's parents suggested I'd be their son's perfect bride. I felt my heart blooming that very day, and all I could do was blush like a bride. They didn't give me a reason why they had made that decision, nor did I get to meet Ronald and confirm if he wanted such. Ronald has been my crush for years in my town. He was admired by every girl around, including Madison and I. We three came from the same place and grew up there as well. I've always wanted Ronald to recognize me and accept me as his love, but I always failed to make it happen, cause he never looked my way. That only pained me deeply, making me feel like a loser. My obsession over Ronald from childhood led me to pray to the heavens to make us both a couple one day. "Please, I can't do without him," I begged, feeling like one who was about to die. That's when an unexpected incident happened. Ronald, one night, almost drowned to death in a river. I've known him since childhood and know he can't swim. When I saw this, I went in to save him that night, bringing Ronald back to life. I still remember that night. His eyes came blurry, but his hand found its way to my face, caressing my cheek. That increased the spark in my heart for him. It made me crave for Gray even more. I thought my heroism would bring us closer together, but it didn't. Out of nowhere, Gray began dating Madison. Everyone in the town saw this and it only broke my heart. I thought he'd remember me as the one who saved his life, but no. Gray was all over Madison like one who was possessed or charmed with a love potion. She became his first love, stealing the spot I'd always wanted. That broke me deeply. When the marriage proposal was brought in, I had to question further to know why, and they didn't tell me much. They didn't want Madison to be in Gray's life and suggested I'd be the best match. So, just like that, I married Ronald under the circumstances. It was never a love marriage. And up until now, he still has no clue that I'm the one who saved him that night. His world just revolves around Madison. But now that I've ended the marriage of nine years, I decided to start all over again in my life. I need to leave the past for the past and dive into the future before me. If not because of my obsession to make Gray accept me as his love, I'd have left him a long time and become someone better. "It's never too late," I said to myself, feeling more relieved than trapped. To start my life, I got myself an apartment, somewhere in the city, then I went in for a job at a company, which is owned by a wealthy billionaire, just like Ronald. "Robin Industry," I uttered while looking at the sign above my building. It's a tall skyscraper. I stepped into the company and went for an interview like every other candidate I met there. The questions asked were tough, and I could feel my legs trembling with sweat when the interviewers kept asking me different hard questions. It almost looked like I was in an exam or something, but I wasn't. "Are they doing this on purpose? " I asked within, seeing how they kept questioning like some set of rude pants. When a question was asked, I failed to give them a quick answer. "You're slow. This is the third time we'll be pointing this out," One of them said, glaring at me. I had to apologize and think of the answer to the question. But with all that has been happening since I started the interview, I had a feeling I wasn't getting the job. Their face even showed it. The way they lifted their brows, nothing down something, made me realize I had failed the test. "I'm sorry, but we can't hire you," They said to me next. I've always heard they were strict in interviewing, but I never knew I'd come face to face with the fire one day. They immediately rejected me and requested the next one. When I got to my feet to leave through the door, I accidentally bumped into a handsome man, who held me by the waist preventing me from falling. "Be careful there," He warned, letting his eyes shimmer. "I'm sorry sir," I apologized to him. I didn't even know who he was, not until the interviewers got to their feet and began welcoming him with respect, calling him Sir. "Sir? He's the CEO?" I realized. "What is going on here?" He asked them. They all told him about the interview and how they were searching for workers to fill in the vacant spaces. "And her?" He suddenly asked, referring to me. I felt my heart skip when he did this. They didn't hesitate to tell him I failed the test. And it made me upset with them the more. I wanted to leave, but this man held my hands suddenly, leaving me astonished. "Let me see, " He asked for a copy of my CV in their hold. When he checked, he said to them, "A perfect CV and you say she's not fit?" "Sir we..." "That's enough. Sometimes I wonder how you carry out this interview," He said. This man faced me and introduced himself as Robin, the owner of the company. "How about you become my secretary? What do you say?" My eyes widened at his offer. This is a dream come true. "Em... Yes sir. I'd love to be your secretary," I accepted, taking hold of the hand he had extended to me. "Welcome aboard," He said with a smile. We shook hands together, leaving my heart jumping. My new life has begun.
