After all these years, she finally decided to divorce me.
I've waited for so long, just to hear her utter that word. But Sophie only wasted a good nine years over her silly obsession with me.
If only I was strong enough then, when my parents decided for me to marry Sophie, I'd have turned them down and married Madison instead.
Madison, the love of my life. She's the reason why I'm alive today. She's the one that saved me from drowning in that river.
When she rescued me, I failed to see her beautiful face. I later woke up in the hospital and didn't see her again.
When I thought all hope was lost, she came back to me. Madison visited me in the hospital and revealed she was the one who saved me.
I immediately fell head over heels for my heroine, promising to make her my bride one day.
But everything flopped when my parents, having an issue with Madison and her family, chose Sophie instead for me.
I wanted to refuse them right there, telling them Madison was the one who saved me, but they didn't care, and I had no other choice.
And also, my father threatened to give his wealth and empire to charity, if I go against him.
His empire was my target. I'm his only heir and I couldn't allow such an opportunity to slip my hands.
I had to accept my fate and marry Sophie.
Nine years, I never took her as a wife, even when she tried to get my attention, I just gave her the cold shoulder.
All these years, it has been Madison, and she's finally here to be with me, to fill that void.
But, is this what I want?
"I got us some takeout, Gray. I didn't have the strength to prepare anything for us," Madison had said, sitting on my lap.
After Sophie left, she moved in with me, spending so much time as I always dreamed of.
But somehow, I couldn't feel that longing bond I've always wanted from Madison. That desire that kept me craving for her for nine years suddenly vanished.
Somehow, that bond was gone. I no longer felt like having Madison around me.
She was trying her best to make me feel happy with her, as I always wanted, but it just wasn't filling in that space.
I could feel an empty void in my heart, like something or someone was missing.
"Sophie," I uttered unknowingly, feeling a sudden skip in my heart.
"What?" Madison said, looking at me.
I didn't realize that I mentioned Sophie's name out loud. I looked at Madison and said, " I was remembering the wedding ring. She didn't drop it." Truly, Sophie didn't drop the ring. I just noticed that now.
Madison scoffed and said, "I don't need her filthy ring. I know you're going to get me a better one. So, forget about that."
She kissed me on the cheek.
I smiled at Madison, but my heart kept returning to Sophie.
She's the reason why I feel this empty. She has been around me for years and I've gotten used to her shadows in my home.
"What are you saying, Gray? You finally have Madison in your life as you wanted. Forget about Sophie. She's history!" My mind spoke to me, but my heart was giving a different beat.
I decided to forget about Sophie and face my new life with Madison.
"Come dear. Let us have our meal. I ordered our favorite," Madison said, taking me into the dining room to eat with her.
Together we sat down and ate our meal. Smiles all over Madison's face, as she made different plans for our future together.
"After we marry, we'd head down to Paris for our honeymoon. I heard it's the city of love," She giggled, caressing my hand.
I smiled at Madison while eating, trying to enjoy her company. But it was still that same feeling.
I still felt empty within me. I couldn't concentrate.
When I lifted my gaze to the seat opposite me, I found myself picturing Sophie there.
That's where she always sat with her read lowered down, eating. She always had her eyes down, just eating quietly.
Not hearing or being around her again, was beginning to get me uncomfortable.
It's almost like my home is nothing without her.
"Are you listening to me?" Madison asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Yes, I am, " I lied, taking a glance at the empty seat, with an image of Sophie fading away from there.
I groaned, trying to eat my meal in peace.
"Gray, something is bothering you. Won't you tell me?" Madison asked, showing her love and support. But I just couldn't feel it.
I ended up leaving the dining room, claiming I wanted to make use of the bathroom.
When I rushed up the stairs and arrived in my room, I ended up locking myself in the bathroom, leaning against the door with my back pressing hard.
Quickly, I moved towards the sink, splashing water against it, just to get myself back.
"Have this. You don't want to catch a cold," I heard from behind, leaving my heart beating.
I turned over and found Sophie standing close to the tower, where it was hung.
"I'll go and get your meal ready," She said, without looking at me.
When I saw this, I shut my eyes at once with my hands covering my face.
"Why is this happening?" I asked, feeling frustrated, reaching for the sink once again and splashing more water on my face.
"Why can't I forget her? Why won't she leave me alone?" I questioned no one in particular.
I thought about all I ever wanted.
"I finally have Madison in my life. I'm free to do what I want. But why do I feel so empty?" I asked, slowly realizing why I was like this.
Despite the fact that Madison is here with me, I no longer feel excited about it. I thought when she moved in I'd feel a bright change in me, but I feel incomplete.
"My mind is always on Sophie. I can't take her out of my head," I said weakly, religion her effect on me.
