Chapter 7

Sophie I sat down in the bathroom and cried my eyes out. The man I had given the better part of my life to was romancing another woman in front of me. I couldn't utter a word. I stood there with the deepest regrets about ever getting to know him. The kisses he placed on bed lips so passionately made me cringe. “I despise you, Ronald.” I screamed in the bathroom while I quietly sobbed. I should have known that he was a pathetic loser. I was blinded by the love I had for him. I wiped my tears and walked up to the bathroom sink, I took a look at myself and felt disgusted. I freshened up and fixed a smile on my face. I walked to the bathroom door and took a deep breath before walking out through the door. I made my way to my desk and I sat down, unwilling to look at anything else. “Don't you have shame?” I heard Madison’s voice from a distance. “Excuse me?” “Showing your face here after being humiliated.” Madison rolled her eyes and sat on the table. “I think Ro-, I think Mr Armstrong has explained the situation. I am not here for anything aside from work.” I lowered my eyes. “You expect me to believe that? Madison reached for my hair and yanked it hard. I released my grip from her hand and pushed her out of reflex. She stumbled on the ground and yelled. “What happened?” Ronald came marching towards us, he saw Madison lying on the floor and he picked her up like a knight in shining armor. “I am sorry sir. She pulled my hair and I tried to-” I couldn't even say anything else before I felt a sharp pain on my face. Ronald had slapped me across my face. I stood there with my mouth wide open. Tears formed in my eyes and I could feel the stares, I stood there unable to say anything. “You are worthless, how dare you lay your filthy hands on my wife?” His wife? So soon? I don't know what hurt more, the stinging pain on my face or the heartache I was experiencing all at once. “Baby, I think she tried to kill me.” Madison held her slightly bruised elbow and cried. At this point, everyone was staring at me and I was even more embarrassed when I remembered that I was slapped in front of everyone. “I am sorry sir, it wasn't my intention to hurt your wife.” The words were heavy for me, but I had to bear it all. Ronald walked up to me, his eyes burning with rage. “You have one week to leave.” Ronald whispered before brushing his shoulder against mine. “Baby fire her now.” Madison screamed at the top of her voice while stomping her feet to the floor. “Let's go baby.” Ronald led Madison to his office and quickly I saw a staff of his with a first aid box rushing to the office. Sooner or later the hallways became clear and I still stood there. I sat down in my seat as I thought about everything that had happened. I took my bags in my hand and headed for the exit of the company. “Where do you think you are going to go?” I heard a voice that I never thought I would hear, not at this moment, not at this time as well. I turned slowly as I looked at Ronald disgustedly. “ What do you want with me? Why are you bothered about where I go and what I do? When did you start prying into my private life and business?” I asked him. He was not going to get it nicely from me, not after he slapped me and publicly embarrassed me. “I just asked you a question and lots of questions have poured out already. Should I be worried about that?” Ronald stood in front of me. I could see the mockery in his tone. “ Do not bother me again. You will not like what I can do to you if you try to bother me again.” I warned him. He moved forward and held my arm. “ Are you talking to your ex-husband and the Ceo of this company like that? How dare you, do you realize that I can do something dangerous to you?” He threatened but unfortunately, it did not move me at all. I stared at his face. I was not scared of him. “Do your worst but do not bother me. You have already ruined my life and there's nothing left for you to take from me again.” I felt his hand on my skin and that sent a shiver running down my spine. I was too weak to struggle with him. I could have fought him but I let him have his way “You think you can talk to me how you deem fit and I will do nothing? I have to tell you and show you who is in charge here.” He brought his face closer to me. “Ronald, let me go.” I pushed him off and I ran off. I was walking trying to call a taxi when I saw a familiar car pulling over. “Get in.” It was Robin. “How did you know I would be out by this time?” I shot him a quizzical look. “I didn't. What is the progress?” “I have never been this determined to deliver the job as I am now. I will do anything to get the job done.” I said with a hint of pain in my voice. “Welcome onboard.” I shook hands with Ronald as the corner of his lips pulled up into a grin.
