7. Raven
I knew things were going to be messy before I even went back home. But then, there was nowhere else I could go and I knew that in my current condition, they were bound to find me and make my life difficult.
This was the only place I could be, the only place I had known all my life to be home even if the word home sounded bitter. I resigned myself to my fate because there was nothing else I could do.
"I always told you, Mother and Father, that sweet Raven here isn’t the naive and innocent girl you all think she is," Morgan said, unbothered by the fact that I was already in deep trouble.
"I am so disappointed in you, Raven. I regret the day you came into this life. I wish your mother had aborted you instead or that I had strangled you when I first held you." I swallowed hard at my father’s bitter words, which sliced deeper into my chest, my heart shattering into many pieces.
My fists clenched at my sides as I dropped my face to the ground. I could feel the tears landing of their own accord on my cheeks.
How could my own father say that? Could it be that he wasn’t my biological father after all? Remembering what he said about my mother, and the fact that he had had an affair with Michelle even when he was still with my late mother, I questioned whether he really loved my mother in the first place.
"I am disgusted by you!" My father was already before me, pushing me hard to the ground.
"D-Dad, I..."
"How dare you call me that? I am not your father, you shameless slut!" My father declared with force, making me bite my lower lip with a pang of pain in my heart. My own father had disowned me.
"Dad, you should have seen her yesterday. She was all over the place, pulling her dress up, calling the unmated males to her. Wow, it was a—"
"Stop lying!" Enough was enough! I was already on my heels, facing Morgan, who was humiliating me in front of Father.
"I didn’t do that!" Even though I was in heat, which she herself caused by drugging my drink, I couldn’t have gone to that extent.
"Are you calling Morgan a liar? Do you think she’s like you?" Michelle was already on my throat, pulling my hair as she spoke.
"But that’s not true." I murmured the words, the pain from my scalp making me wince.
"From today onwards," Alpha Maddox’s cold words brought me back to the moment, and I slowly peeped up to see his angry face. There was also a disgusted look in his eyes.
"I am not your father, and neither is this place your home." The shattered pieces of my heart stopped, and my whole body stiffened when he started to say the rejection vow.
“I, alpha Maddox, invoke the ancient rites of our ancestors. I ask you to sever the familial bond between me and Raven as father and daughter. From today onwards, I reject her as my daughter! May the bond break!"
The pain tore through my head and I fell to my knees holding my head as I felt the bond disappear and then I lay there panting, willing the pain away, buy no one seemed to care.
"Still, she’s lucky that Alpha Kane wants to make her his mate. That way, our reputation won’t be completely ruined," Michelle chimed in, and I felt like vomiting at the words.
"You are right, honey. At least Alpha Kane will take this filth off our hands."
I tried to speak, to at least make them drop the idea but I thought against it. What was the need? Have they ever listened to me?
"You now belong to Alpha Kane. Isn't that right, Alpha Kane?" My father called out, and it was then that I realized there was someone else in our midst.
The last person I wanted to see, let alone be mated with. I hadn't even heard him come due to the pain I was feeling.
"Yes, Alpha. It will be my pleasure to help out."
‘Help out.’ Those two words felt like a hammer piercing my heart, breaking every remaining piece into tiny fragments.
"N-No, I-I can’t be mates with someone—"
"My words are final, Raven. You will leave the pack in two days’ time." My father declared, and I abruptly turned to him, my eyes full of sadness and pity. But he didn’t even look at me.
My eyes slowly turned to the old, fatty Alpha Kane with a wrinkled face and a huge belly, and I felt like vomiting. But the man just winked at me with malice in his eyes. That was when I realized that if he succeeded in taking me out of this place, my life would become a living hell, especially with the way I had shown him how much I hated him to his face.
Sighing, I turned to see both Morgan and Michelle smiling secretly. I knew they were happy that my father was getting rid of me. That had been their wish all along. I knew they hated me to the core.
No! There was no way I could marry an old man. Desperately, I turned to my father again. But now, I was moving toward him. I didn’t know where I had gotten the courage, but I was already before him.
"A-Alpha, please! D-Don’t do this to me. P-Please have—"
"That’s my final decision, Raven. The reputation of this family and pack depends on it." With that, he avoided me and turned to the guards in front of the door, motioning for them to take me away.
Two burly men walked over and dragged me by the arms, pulling me toward the main door and out of my family’s, no KY former family's, sight, and the sight of the fatty old man who was still smiling and making annoying faces at me like a horny little boy.
Fuck you!
I wanted the words to come out as tears welled in my eyes, but of course, I couldn’t say them aloud.
But something wasn’t right. Today, my father didn’t beat me up like he usually did when I had done something wrong. What had changed?
Before I could dwell on that thought, the door to my small room was forcefully opened and the two men threw me inside like a sack. They slammed the door behind me, making me land hard on the edge of the bed. I winced in pain, closing my eyes, my fists clenched tightly to suppress the ache.
"M-Mother, w-why did you leave me behind? Y-You should have taken me with you! I-I am tired!" More tears left my eyes.
Why was my life turning from bad to worse? What did I do in my previous life to warrant this kind of pain?
Suddenly, something happened that made me freeze in place.
