His voice echo throughout the room as the head of every person inside turn towards him but not a single one of them had the flame of hope burning in their eyes. “I think you should give up on that young lad, do you think you are the only one that had that kind of idea?” an old skinny man said as he struggles to get up and use a worn down crane to. ‘Trembling and unnecessary movements of the body and malnutrition on top of that. Are they also cannibals? Banished or forsaken perhaps?’ Xerxes said as he looks and observes everyone’s figures and conditions.
“Carlos, get up and ready yourself. We are getting out of here.” Xerxes said as the man stands up but is a little embarrassed to look at Xerxes face. “There is no need to be embarrassed, I was over it a long time ago and your daughter paid me to look for you and rescue you if possible.” Carlos is able to stand up but it looks like one of his legs are not in a great condition. ‘He must have been injured while on their way here. I wonder if there are people from back home as well.’
The men looks at Xerxes as he waits for Carlos to walk towards him when the old man ask if he has a way to escape. “Sure, I have numerous plans and things to use to escape this hellhole. So if you want to escape this place you better walk on your own.” Xerxes said with a cold tone and the old man smiles. “It can’t be helped then, I’m already old and dying so why not try to do something right for the last time.” The old man said as he struggles to walk towards the two.
“Are there no others who wants to escape this place?” Xerxes looks around and sees that there are no others that are willing to join them. “Then I guess it’s just the three of us.” Xerxes then reach out to his right leg where he pulls out a knife and a rod like weapon that has a handle. “That is such a peculiar choice of weapons.” The old man said as he looks at Xerxes’s weapons. “I know. I don’t plan to only escape here after all. The guards as well as the people inside this place are almost on the brink of death. Their filth should not spread in the world outside. Both of you hide on the sides while I bang the door non stop. That should take their attention.”
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
‘A few bang and a scream would be able to pull it off.’ Xerxes thinks to himself as he breathes deeply. “HEY! GET ME OUT OF HERE! THESE GUYS ARE EATING EACH OTHER!” Xerxes smiles thinking that they would not want their food supply to kill each other since that would also endanger themselves. ‘These guys will not want to have a food shortage. The next full moon would be next few weeks, no food is equal to death. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, te-.’ And just as he expected, the people then came to storm the room with their skinny and fragile figure.
‘These guys came prepared but I have already expected this.’ Xerxes points his gun and scratch the tip of the handle of his knife near the rod and sparks a little flame and burns the little cloth that is sticking out of the little rod.
PSSSSSSH!
“Bang!”
BAAAAANG!
The moment the door opens, one of the responders falls to the ground in an instant and shock the others, some froze in fear while some froze in shock. Xerxes takes this opportunity to strike them down without hesitation.
s***h! s***h! s***h! s***h! s***h! s***h! s***h!
Xerxes easily handles them in just a few seconds as the stench of blood spreads inside the room. “That’s some of them done. I guess that’s one step towards the goal.” Xerxes then told Carlos to help the old man walk as he clears everyone in their way. “Just as I thought, your weapon is similar to the weapon that our ancestors have but yours is a little outdated.” The old man said to Xerxes who reloaded the flintlock using their newly modified method that allows them to reload the flintlock in just a few seconds.
“Yeah- I guess you are from another tribe. Are your tribesmen cannibal as well?” Xerxes ask as the old man shook his head. “No, our people refrain from such vile acts even if we are to starve to death. That’s just how our ancestors have done in the past and we plan not to stain that custom.” Xerxes smiles and leads them. “But I should say, you are quite adept in using that kind of weapon. Where have you got the technology to make one?” the old man asks but then out of nowhere, a spear flew towards them. Luckily Carlos and the old man ducked to dodge the spear as the owner of the spear charge towards them with it’s frail body.
Xerxes did the same thing to fire his flintlock in an instant.
PSSSSH! BANG!
In an instant the man falls to the ground, Xerxes picks up the corroded spear after reloading his gun and throws it after seeing one of the cannibals run towards them. “You’re going to die anyway so let me do it for you.”
PAK!
With it’s frail body, the man gets nailed in the wall where he came from and shocked the others that followed behind him. “K-kill him!” one of the pursuers yells but in that moment, Xerxes was able to grab a hold of something sharp and threw it towards them. ‘I can’t waste my bullets here. I might need it later when things get sticky.’
s***h! s***h! s***h!
The pursuers were killed in an instant, some of them were able to run away to the others. “Looks like we are going to need one of my special weapon.” Xerxes said after seeing their numbers multiply. “I’m pretty sure they were only a few when I got here.” Xerxes said with a smile as he reach out to his side pocket a medium sized bottle with a cloth sticking out like the flintlock.
“What is that weapon now?” Carlos mutters after seeing a liquid inside the bottle. ‘Water? What is he going to do with water?’ he ask himself as Xerxes tries to push the walls and was surprised to find out that the wall is actually easy to destroy. “Well, I guess we are going to escape this place faster than expected.” Xerxes said as he kick the wall violently and revealed that they are already just beside the statue of liberty.
“Use that way to get out, I will cover for you.” The two did as they told. “Burn in hell.” Xerxes lights the cloth in the bottle and threw it towards the pursuers.
PSHHHH! KSSSSH!
A single and small flame set the hallway ablaze and burned the everyone that was near the impact. Strugglers got out of the building covered in flames but then were shot down by Rupert and Ramirez.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
The sound of gunfire and the falling of the bodies to the ground made the cannibals hesitate to get out of the building but they are also afraid to be burned to death, caught in a pinch some of them bravely run outside but the gunshots stop as Xerxes appears beside the old man and Carlos. With the fear of getting shot to death, they stopped and stare at the stranger than they just captured a while ago.
The last one to got out of the building is the chief who is in grief after seeing their place burn down to the ground.
“You! I should have killed you when I got the chance!” the chief yells as she foolishly walk towards Xerxes and curse at him. “Yeah? Well, I’m just bringing just here to do my job. But did you know that I also got a job just last night? If I’m right, the ring you wore belongs to an elf that you let your men r**e and feast on her body right? I just so happen and met the brother of that elf you see.” The expression on the chief’s face is indescribable after he mentions the elf that they had eaten.
“You- you are wrong! We have not eaten an elf at all! That elf is just lying! They just want to get rid of us!” the chief struggles to try and deny that fact but then Xerxes tells him that he is well aware of how the elves act. “And I don’t think that lying is one of them. Though they are prideful creatures, lying is not one of their flaws, they are terrible liars to be exact. To me, humans are the most terrible creatures in this world after all.” the chief laughs at his hypocrisy and Xerxes did not deny it.
“Yeah, I know that I am human. And just as I said, humans are the most terrible creatures in this world, and I am one of them as well.”
BANG!
Xerxes shots down the chief with a shot in the head as the other tribe members grief of their loss but then they decided to take their spears and weapons to attack Xerxes when all of the sudden, some of them are attacked from behind.
s***h! s***h! s***h! s***h! s***h! PIERCE! PIERCE! PIERCE! PIERCE! PIERCE! PIERCE!
The rest of the tribe are swept clean by the rest of the prisoners using their own weapons against them. “You said you don’t want to escape so why now?” Xerxes says with a smile but the one that leads the prisoners chuckled. “I know right? We were just used to the chamber that it was hard for us to leave but we gathered out courage.” The prisoners then sat down under the burning building. When Xerxes approach to help them out, the leader gestures him to stop.
“We just wanted to do something right. We can’t just return to our villages after getting this kind of experience. We ate some of the prisoners to survive, we are not much different than monsters. We heard what you said and we also realize it ourselves. That’s why this is more than enough for us.” Some of the prisoners then drags the body of the chief inside the burning building and hands the ring to Xerxes.
“Thank you for giving us hope. I wish you help more people just like us.” The leader said as the building falls and cover them in flames. There were no screams of pain and struggling only the smell of burning flesh as the flame devours everything around it and spreads further back.
Rupert and Ramirez then run towards their master and ask him if he was alright. "Yeah, I’m fine. Give the old man a bottle of water and that man as well. They must be thirsty.” Ramirez then gave them both a bottle of water each and the both drank like they have not drank water for the longest of time.
COUGH! COUGH! COUGH! COUGH! COUGH! COUGH! COUGH!
“To think that I would get to taste water before I die. What a bliss!” the old man said as he smiles. He reach out to Xerxes after grabbing something inside his pocket. “Take this young man. This might prove to be useful to you in the future.” He said as he hands Xerxes a totem. “I guess this is as far as I go. I’m really grateful to you for giving me the opportunity to smell the air outside and see the world once again before I pass away. Good luck in your future and may our god bless you-“ the old man breathe his last after saying those words.
Rupert and Ramirez buried the old man beside a little tree while Xerxes tends to the wounds of Carlos and made him a crane that is easier to use. They then left the island before the water comes back to cover the entire land once again. The other elves hid as Kusaf greets them after getting back on the main land.
“Was that enough?” Xerxes asked. “Yes. That was more than enough.” Kusaf replies with a smile. “Great, then I guess I should give you something that you have been missing for the longest of time.” Xerxes hands him the ring that the prisoners got from the corpse of the chief. Tears on Kusaf’s face flow like river after seeing the ring of his sister that had long died and turns to Xerxes and the others who are already away from him. “Thanks.” The elves saw how Kusaf got emotional so they decide to approach him and saw a familiar ring on his hands. Tears also flows from their eyes as they turn to Xerxes’s figure disappear in the distance.
A few hours of trekking the same road that they followed, they arrived back safely thanks to the safe road that the tribe had provided them. Diana went to fetch her daughter who spent her entire time waiting for them to return and found her sitting right next to the portal. “Sarah, you need to eat. You can’t just skip your meal for a few days you know?” Diana said but her daughter does not seem to care and just focused her attention to the portal.
Then all of the sudden, a familiar figure got out of the portal. It was Xerxes and her father that got out of the portal first and then followed by Rupert and Ramirez who is carrying all of their supplies and the things that they have gathered inside the portal. Right after seeing her husband, Diana runs towards her husband and embraced him while Xerxes and the three continues to walk forward. “Thank you.” Diana said but Xerxes did not bother to look at her and respond.
“Thank you very much. Thank you- hic! hic! hic! hic! hic! hic! hic!” Diana’s daughter said as tears flood her eyes. “Don’t thank me, it was our job. You don’t need to be grateful at all. Just make sure to complete the payment. We will leave now since you must have missed your father that much. We can also be considerate.” Xerxes said and then left for their shop while Rupert and Ramirez bow their heads to the young miss before leaving entirely.
Seeing that there is no change in Xerxes behavior, she stares at his back long before she run to her father’s arms.
