My Brother’s Best Friend

Fiona pov It’s been seven years since the last time I saw my hometown. It’s a beautiful sunny town close to Florida. I was in New York, four years of studied photography and three years of practice and work in a few jobs. After so many years I didn’t have something planned for work this summer. So here I am back in my hometown to see family and friends. “Fiona here.” I heard my dad’s voice I found him in the crowd. I smile at him and run towards him. I hug him and the smell of his aftershave comes to my nose. “I missed you, Dad.” “I missed you too cupcake. Come on, let’s go home. Mom will try to finish soon from the hospital and Mark is already home cooking your favorite. He left Tony at the bar.” My mom is a doctor in the local hospital so she is not always invaluable. My dad is the sheriff of the town so is always on standby and my brother is the owner of a bar very famous in this town. “Great I cant wait,” I say and we go to the car. On the way home, we talked about my life and asked about how life was without me here. Of course, we talk on the phone all these years but is not the same. We arrived home and I took one of my two suitcases and my dad the other one. “Mark?” I yelled when I was inside the house. “Oh my God I thought I never gonna miss this yelling but I guess I did,” he says laughing and coming to me. I run and fall to his arm. I missed my brother's hugs. “You are growing up good Fi” “So do you. How is Lilly?” “She is in Florida to take a few last things for the wedding “ “I still can't believe that you will be married in two weeks. And Lilly the sweeter girl in town. How to make her marry a jerk like you?” “Well I have my talents if you know what I mean “ “Agh. I didn’t need to hear that” “Ok cupcake go to your room fresh up and come for dinner,” my dad says and Mark helps me with my stuff. “We are really happy that you are here again Fi. Mom, Dad, Lilly missed you a lot” “Thanks. You? Did you me?” He smiles “Of course I missed you. Believe it or not. Even Jason asks about you” I smile at him and he leaves me to settle down. Jason, Marks's best friend, and my longest crush. My first kiss, my first in everything. But that is something that he and I know. A part of me coming back here wishing that maybe now is our chance with Jason. But who am I kidding, he is the hottest in town, and a lot of women will chase him, I am Mark's little sister. If he didn’t want something then why does that change now? I take a shower and get dressed to go to dinner. When I entered the kitchen I saw my mom still beautiful in her early fifties. Next to my dad also in good shape. “Mom?” She turns around and wipes her hand, she is cutting the salad she smiles at me and comes to me “Baby,” she says and we hug. My God, mummy’s embrace is the best in the world. “Oh baby I missed you” “I missed you too Mom. I missed hugging me like that” and I pressed her close to me. “You didn’t miss my hug?” Dad says trying to change the subject because I started crying. “I missed you, Dad. But you remember everything that happened to me I always go to mum for conforms” he smiles “I know. Come all now. Dinner is ready” he says and we sit down. We talk about everything that happened all these years. Is good that I'm back. I missed them all. And my hometown. After dinner, we sat in the living room, and Mark excused himself to talk on the phone. “Cupcake you are thinking of staying?” “Well if something about work came up I will. Otherwise, I have to look something back in New York” “I’m sure we will find something. In town we need a new photographer” my mum says and I smile. “Fi?” My brother comes into the living room worried. “Mark, what is it?” “Emergency.” And he gives me the phone “Lilly,” he says “Hey, Lilly. What happened?” “Hi, Fi. Welcome back” She sounds stressed “What is it, Lilly? Talk” “Our photographer left us at the last minute and all the others I go to are very expensive. I am sorry to ask you that. Is your brother's wedding, you’ll want to enjoy the ceremony.” “Do you want to be the photographer at the wedding?” I ask and I look at my brother. He looks like pleases me and my parents look proud. “If isn't a problem. We will pay you of course” “Don’t be silly. I will do it and it will be my wedding gift to you” “No, it’s not problem “ “No, it’s fine Lilly. I was thinking anyway what should I take you, this is my gift. When you are back from Florida call me to talk in person.” “Ok, thanks Fi you are a lifesaver” You end the call, and Mark thanks me. Mom and Dad say that they can't wait to see my work. We call to end the night and I go to my room. I am a few hours here and already I booked a job. Maybe I don’t pay for it but still, people see me working. I can't wait to see this summer what brings to me.
