Prologue I
"Hurry up!"
"We must do our best to kill him at all cost!"
"How? We can’t even see him. Where did he go!?"
"Tss that guy! look this way! And I'll go that way!"
The full moon was at its greatest point in the midst of the night, looking alone at the world while giving light in the middle of the darkness. A huge white wolf was panting profusely. He hid in one of the deserted alleyway's nooks, hoping that the pursuers would not catch up with him at any cost.
His emerald green eyes glinted viciously as he sensed if his pursuers were nowhere in his range anymore. "I will assure myself that I will never let you capture me, Daniel," Yves growled, his voice filled with contempt and coldness. When he realized that there were no pursuers in sight, he started making his move.
His body was quivering. He glanced at the silver pendant with the dark red-eye in the middle of it hanging on his neck. If one looks closely at him, one can see that his visage was painted with anguish and pain. With the huge wound on his left belly, the blood smeared his beautiful white fur. He continued to walk, limping, forward, enduring all the pain he felt alone. Under the moonlight, silver blood liquid was dripping down the chilly concrete, leaving a trail behind him as he walked ahead.
'I can't afford to get caught here. No matter what.' Yves kept repeating in his mind. His vision was becoming hazy since he lost too much blood now. He couldn't feel his body anymore and was panting more than before.” I know that my body can’t take it anymore. I need to be strong. I need to..”
*Boogsh!* He eventually collapsed then suddenly lay on the ground.
'No, not now. This is not the right time for me to lose touch with this body. I will not die like this. No, I will not let myself die that easily.' He attempted to rise up, but his body was so weakened that he couldn't move no matter how hard he tried. He also tried to catch his breath in the air to gain some strength but in the end, it just made him tired and weak even more. The moon shone down on him as if to comfort him in his weary state.
He felt that his eyelids were becoming heavy. "No...I can't die...no….. not…..now…" Then he heard slow footsteps approaching him.
'As I try my best to survive, why did I fail in the end?’ He assumed the footsteps belonged to his pursuers, but then he heard a husky woman's voice before losing consciousness.
"Who abandoned their dog here?"
Arselle fixed her gaze on the huge dog who was sprawled in her way. The said dog had fur that was silky white and glittering under the moonlight.
Arselle frowned when she saw the silver blood flowing out from his guts.
"Ah," Arselle uttered. She looked quite troubled. "A troublesome creature has landed on my doorstep." She had just returned from the convenience shop, where she had purchased a couple of bottles of strawberry juice and some munchies for her midnight snacks. And just when she thought she'd be able to keep binge-watching a one-thousand-episode anime, recommended to her by her friends online, something was blocking her doorsteps.
'It's not my problem. At best when others see this tomorrow, they will simply call someone to clean its corpse. And I don’t have any responsibilities or obligations to it.' She carefully glided over the dog to enter her house. But just before she could unlock her door, a pained voice pleaded with her. “Help me,” it held her left foot and made her shocked by what she saw.
“Oh, my,'' Her heart almost came out, due to the surprise. ‘That almost ruined my life,’ She just took a deep breath.
"Please-please help me," his voice was weak and painful.
"My, my." She sighed. "It looks like some big trouble finds its way into my house." When she turned around, the huge white dog finally became a half-naked man. She tried to remove his hands, but his grasp only tightened.
In the Underground World, three species reigned supreme: Werewolves, Vampires, and Grim Reapers, or simply the grim reapers were what you called humans with a psychic power called Stigma. The Grim Reapers were humans that were on par with the supernaturals. And everyone in this world knows what silver blood means. It indicated that whoever got this blood is one of the Supreme Silver Moon Pact of the Werewolves. And everyone who held this blood was someone who wouldn’t dare to offend that easily.
"For one of the notorious werewolves to be in such a humble country. Should I leave him here? But he won't let me go. I know that it will be inconvenient if those other werewolves came for me after learning that one of their pacts had died here and I just did nothing but stare at it. I heard that werewolves have such a high level of camaraderie." Arselle leaned closer to him and touched his neck. "Though it is getting faint he still has a pulse. Should I then dial 911?" Arselle certainly caught herself in a dilemma.
"But if I do that, for sure that is not a good idea. The doctors will probably freak out with his blood and he'll be treated like a lab rat,” She looked at him with a petty expression in her eyes. “Yeah, the hospital is not an option for these creatures. The werewolves will undoubtedly track down the i***t who took their member to the hospital."
"Arselle!" When she heard a familiar voice, Arselle tensed. It was none other than her next-door neighbor, Aling Rochelle. She felt a bit of panic after she heard Aling Rochelle's voice.
‘What should I do? Okay, calm down, Arselle everything is fine besides you did nothing. Just act normal,’ she thought and took a deep breath.
Inhale*
Exhale*
‘Calm down Arselle,’
"Hey! Ahm what’s up?" As Arselle greeted her awkwardly, Aling Rochelle formed a smile on her face but it suddenly changed when her gaze went down to the man lying on Arselle's front door.
"Wahhh! Murder!" she put both her hands on her mouth and shouted hysterically. ”You-you,”
Arselle just rolled her eyes because of the way Aling Rochelle reacted when she saw the man lying on the ground.
"s**t! Hey easy,” Arselle gestured to calm Aling Rochelle down, but she kept shouting frantically. ”Hey, hey listen. It's not what you think, okay? Can you calm down first?" But the woman kept shouting hysterically and ignoring her the whole time.
‘Tch, I think I need to do this now if she keeps not listening to me. I’m so sorry but you need this at the moment for the sake of my daily dose of peace.’
Arselle had no choice but to rush towards Aling Rochelle. She struck Aling Rochelle's nape with fast, precise movements, causing the elder lady to collapse in her arms. "Tch, seriously? Murder right away? How could you arrive at that decision so quickly!?" she moved her head sideways, “Why are there plenty of people on this planet who are so close-minded? They make assumptions so easily without knowing the truth or without the willingness to see others' perspectives. That is why no doubt there are a lot of problems in politics, business, and of course not to mention in any relationships. Tch! They are so irritating.”
‘Heh,’ Arselle grinned at herself. ‘I sounded so wise there. I should record that later on my notepad.’
But as she turned around, the man lying on the ground was no longer alone…
"We finally found you." Three men wearing black cloaks were now surrounding the unconscious werewolf. “You're really good at running away.”
"Oh. Thank goodness.” Arselle now felt at ease when she saw the unknown three cloaked man who was looking directly at the guy who was still lying on the ground. “It looks like his subordinates finally found him. I will just quietly move away while they still do not notice me." Arselle carefully made her way while carrying Aling Rochelle like a sack of rice on her right shoulder. But then she paused on her steps when she noticed something strange with the three cloaked men. More like she smelled something. She stopped for a moment to analyze everything. Sniff* Sniff* ‘ Wait, this is such a strong smell of that nasty dead blood, vampires?'
Her eyes narrowed when the cloaked man in the middle brought a knife that radiated a faint light hue. 'That knife... They are vampires but why do they have a reaper's weapon with them? Arselle's brow furrowed. 'I think I got the gist of this. But...Should I leave him and act like I’m not here or try to become a knight and shining armor? Well, besides, he is not my problem after all. Yes. I think the best decision is I should just leave him behind.'
But before Arselle could turn around, the cloaked men on the left reversed the body of the man lying on the ground. She froze when she saw the very face she would never forget even if a thousand years had passed. Her heart turned cold as emotions she thought she forgot to, resurfaced like how water rushed out when you open a faucet all of the sudden.
