Chapter 1: New Girl
It was early September, and the fall rain outside was coming down. The already cold air was even colder with the winds of the storm. I, Riley Fader, was once again getting ready for what felt like the millionth first day of school. My father and I were always moving. I started so many different schools I lost track. Hell now I dont even bother to try to. Only one month till Halloween and my eighteenth birthday, and then I could make my own choices. We moved to this small town of sleepy hallow but in my head I wanted to call it creepy Hallow. Just like any book I read with the name sleepy hallow as the name reminded me of here. The dark grey skies, the rain, the worn down roads. As if something sucked all the life and color from the world here in this town. I sighed as I looked at myself in my full length mirror. I was short with long brown hair. That morning I was wearing a faded pair of ripped Jean's and a plane red tshirt. I slipped on a pair of my black jordans as i grabbed my school bag and phone. The house we rented was an old two story house. it only had two bedrooms. My father took the one down stairs that was nicer and of course leaving me the cold dark room upstairs that might as well been an attic. I didnt dare complain or argue. My mother died when I was born and he reminded me every day how much I looked like her. The only picture I have of her was when she was my age now. We looked exactly the same. The same big green eyes and long dark lashes. The light dusting of freckles across our cheeks. We might as well be twins. I made my way down the steps making sure to not make a sound. My father as usual was sleeping in the couch passed out drunk from the night before. I stepped out into the freezing rain and started my walk to the school. By the time I got there I was soaked. It took me a little longer than I hoped to find my locker and then my first class. Science was always my favorite subject so I was a little excited. I handed the teacher my transfer slip and he instructed me to find an empty seat at a lap table. As I looked around the dull room I saw only one. In the far back of the room by the windows. I took my seat next to a guy that had his head down and seemed to be asleep. Our science teacher made his way over to us slamming a book down onto the table startling him. "Mr. Stryker, why dont you join us for class today and introduce yourself to your new lab partner." I watched as he sat up and took his hood to his jacket off his head. He had semi long black hair that fell just above his piercing blue eyes. I could see the piercings in his ear hidden in his dark messy hair. "Just because you're family owns most of the town, you still need to pass my class" I heard him groan as he turned to me with an annoyed look on his face. My breath caught in my throat as I looked at him. I couldn't help but think how absolutely gorgeous he was. I could feel my cheeks turning red.
"I'm Issac Stryker, I guess I'm stuck with you as my lab partner." he said as he rolled his eyes. his voice was deeper than I expected but soft. I looked down as he was holding out his hand to me.
"I'm R-Riley Fader." I said softly as I took his hand. All of a sudden it was like my hand had been electrocuted. I pulled it back fast. Issac had a strange look on his face that I couldn't read. "That was weird." He stared at me a moment longer with a serious look on his face before turning to face the front of the class. As class went on I tried my best to focus. Out of the corner of my eye I caught him looking at me. As the class ended and we started to pack up our things the teacher explained the assignment that we had till the end of the semester.
"Now this project will require some out side of school work. It is up to you guys to do the report together to get the grade. It will determine if you pass my class or not." Issac turned to me.
"Give me your phone." he said in an almost cold voice.
"W-what for?"
"So I can give you my number so we can do this damn project." he looked annoyed now.
"Oh, right." I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone and handed it to him. He quickly took it and entered his number before handing it back to me.
"Text me later so I have yours as well" The bell rang and he got up grabbing his bag leaving the room. I was the last to leave. I headed to my next few classes. The day seemed to draw on slowly. I couldn't help it but all day my head was filled with thoughts about Issac. I couldn't help it. I tried to focus all day, but my thoughts would eventually go back to him. The last bell of the day finally rang. I made my way down the crowded hall towards my locker at the other end. My heart skipped a beat as I saw Issace already at his. I caught little glimpses of him as the rest of the people in the hall walked in all directions to leave. He looked up and it felt like we had locked eyes. Or maybe it was just in my head. I kept walking through the crowd. Suddenly I tripped and fell forward. Before I hit the ground a strong arm wrapped around my waist stopping me. Startled and a little confused I looked to see who it was. My eyes widened as I looked at Issac holding me up. I whipped my head towards where I thought I saw him previously at his locker and then back at him behind me. "Werent you just at...your locker?" I asked confused.
"No, just happened to be behind you. Most people would have said thank you." he said in an annoyed tone. He helped me steady myself on my feet standing up straight. I felt my face growing hot again as I realized how close we were standing. He was so much taller than me. He had to be standing at least six foot three. I barely came up to his chest. He looked down at me for a moment longer before letting go of my waist and taking a step back.
"Thank you." I said looking away a little embarrassed. Slowly I looked up at him again as he cleared his throat.
"You should be more careful." He said still in that same annoyed tone. I nodded my head growing even more embarrassed. "Guess it must be hard when you're smaller than everyone else. Easy for you to go unnoticed." He said with a smirk. I looked away again. I head to my locker opening it and putting away my books. As I was shutting the door Issac stopped me reaching a hand inside. "You're going to need this." He said in smooth voice as he pulled my science book out. "Why dont we get started tonight. we can go to my place."
"Oh, um ya sure. We can do that I guess." He shut my my locker as he handed me the book. we walked through the school together not saying anything as we reached the doors stepping out into the still pouring rain. Issac pulled the hood to his black jacket on his head and unzipped it opening it up and holding it over my head a little to shield me from the pouring rain. He pulled me with him down the steps of the school and through the parking lot over to a black camero with heavily tinted windows. Quickly he pulled his keys out and opened the passenger door for me. I got inside and he shut the door behind me before walking too the drivers side and getting in and starting the car. I shivered and the cold air came out of the vents. Even though he had tried to shield me from the rain I still managed to get completely soaked. Issac reached over turning the air off and looking at me. Running his hand through his soaked hair. It fell in messy strands into his eyes before he pushed it back again. He looked at me again before leaning in close. My face turned a deep shade of red. "W-What are you doing?" I said leaning back shocked.
"Just relax already. You need to Buckle you damn seat belt." He reached across my body grabbing the seat belt pulling it across and locking it in place. He sat back in his seat and buckled his own before pulling out of the parking lot. We sat in silence as he drove. The rain hitting the car hard. I watched out the window as the town moved behind us. I wasn't sure what to say and the silence felt awkward. Before I could figure out what to say we pulling onto a long drive way leading up to the biggest house I had ever seen.
"You actually live here?" my eyes were wide in awe. The large brick mansion was massive. I wondered how many rooms it had. He parked the car right infront of the doors. quickly we got out and ran inside. Him shutting the door behind me.
