I wasn't allowed to leave the estate. My ass, like I was going to listen to him. But the thought was gone just as quick as it came, over taken with another primal feeling: hunger.
I was hungry and the hunger consumed me like nothing I've felt before. It was like something had flipped and the only thing I could think about was food, I moved with purpose trying to find something to satisfy the hunger.
I had to find something to satisfy the hunger.
I prowled the estate looking for the kitchen, before I found the kitchen my path crossed with a maid, she was small and petite with long flowing hair in various shades of blue. I made my way towards her without thinking twice; I snatched her up caging her between the wall and myself.
"Miss...Miss," she struggled to get the words out. She was human and I was hungry. She was food.
"Don't worry it'll be over soon," I hushed her, looking her in the eye before my attention was diverted by something that called out to me. Her heart beat, her pulse quickened with fear as it dawned on her what I was about to do. I didn't play, I didn't give her a false sense of security I sunk my teeth into her tearing at her flesh.
My eyes closed at the first touch of blood, this was my heaven, my eyes rolled back in my sockets. Everything faded away my sole focus was on the blood that was pouring into my mouth.
The girl in my arms moaned as I drank from her, she had given into the endorphins that a vampire bite could provide the same bite I refused to give into over and over again. I drank greedily until the girl was limp in hands only then did I retract my teeth and let go of the girl, her body dropped with a dull thud against the marbled floor.
Without a second glance I moved on. My mind had switched off and my body moved with a mind of its own, primal need fuelling it. I moved with precision looking for my next prey. I listened to the closest heartbeat and attacking. He didn't even see me coming.
I drank and dropped the body and moved onto the next body.
I drank and dropped and moved onto the next.
I drank my way through the member of staff, some dead some alive but I registered none of that. I drank my way to the kitchen where I noticed the staff. They were human.
I got through the member of kitchen staff in moments.
I sat on the floor drinking from my fourth kitchen staff when I was found, covered in bloody with a limp body in my grips as I slowly drained the blood from his body relishing in the feeling. I was no longer drinking to quench the hunger I was now drinking for pleasure, for the feeling, for the sensation.
I didn't hear my name being called for the umpteenth time but I felt it, the presence of it retrieving me out of my trance. I retracted my fangs out of his neck turning to face the interruption. At the entrance of the kitchen stood Theo and his little helper boy.
The look on Theo's face had my attention, he looked like he had aged years in a matter of seconds, his eyes scanned the room, my eyes followed his, across the room were unconscious or close to dead human scattered like confetti. Blood splattered the once pristine state of the art kitchen. Half his employees were either dead or on their way being dead and I was responsible.
It dawned on me, what I had done; the consequences of my action hit me as remorse filled my entire being. I stood, dropping the unconscious body with a thud. My eyes solely focused on Theo.
My mouth opened but nothing came out, the apology within me refused to come forward. My head shook profusely, tears filled my eyes but no words came out. Theo sighed taking in the room once more.
I followed his action then down looked down at my hands, covered in blood.
Everything was covered in blood.
I was covered in blood.
I could see it in Theo's eyes as he thought it through before he made his way over to me. Careful of his employees he took my shaking hands and he led me out the room.
I followed numbly as he lead the way, his hand held onto mine firmly as we walked through the estate, no doubt I was leaving bloody foot prints behind. He didn't rush, he could've easily used vampire speed but instead we walked down the hall way and up a flight of stairs then another. I moved in autopilot the aftermath of my actions surrounded me but I saw nothing, figures moved in peripheral vision but I took no notice. What was left of his remaining staff members were cleaning up the mess I had made.
He opened a door leading to a bedroom. He left me in the room as he went into the adjoining bathroom. I could hear the shower running. I stood motionless where he had left me.
He came out a little while later, "Gen," Theo said. "We need to get you cleaned up." I let him lead me into the bathroom, the room was filled with steam, and it was humid and warm. He could've just shoved me under the shower and let me be but he didn't. He undressed me in my unattached state and stepped under the shower with me. He washed of every inch of the bloody that stained my body. I watched the water turn from a rusty red to a light pink to clear. I felt the warm water pelting against my skin but that was it I was going through the motions, Theo turned me so that my back was to him and shampooed my hair. His deft fingers worked my roots massaging my scalp my eyes rolled back into my head as I relaxed at his touch.
"Don't worry," Theo assured me. "We got this."
Once he was satisfied he switched off the shower and wrapped me in a fuzzy towel and led me out the bathroom.
We were once again back in the bedroom, it wasn't his room or the room I woke up in, it was completely different and much smaller and simple. He dried me off and dressed me in a dress. He sat me down on the bed and left the room.
I don't know how long I had sat there until Theo had returned and he had changed out of his wet clothes his hair still wet. The sound of the hair dryer filled the silence that had settled over us. He dried my hair and styled it down and around my face. He held up the hand held mirror like they do at the salon and all I could do was nod.
A look crossed his face but it was gone before I could even comprehend it. His face blanked as he took me in he shook his head as if shaking it would clear all thoughts. He ran his hands through my hair, before moving away. He dragged the chair from across the room and placed it before me.
"Gen," he said my name my eyes were on him, he had my attention, I was physically present yet my mind was elsewhere. I watched his mouth move and hear the words come out yet I couldn't care. I couldn't bring myself to care.
"Gen."
I heard him call my name.
"Genevieve."
I should say something.
"Genevieve."
But I couldn't bring myself to respond.
His head dropped into his hands, as they rested on his knees. He took a moment and looked up. The look in his eye stirred something in me; there was true fear in them. He couldn't hide the look in his eyes this time round. There was fear but that was over shadowed by the determination in his eyes. He jaw set and he looked ready to go to war, to face the worst.
"Genevieve," he whispered softly getting off the chair, looking me in the eye. "Genevieve," he said my full name again. "Gen," he said once more he weaved his fingers into my hair gently combing his fingers through my hair.
Theo cupped my cheek forcing me to make eye contact with him. He closed his eyes collecting himself, with a deep breath. "Genevieve," he called out my name it was a soft whisper barely audible. He sighed, shaking his head.
"Gen, I am going to get you through this," he said slowly. "I will get you back, I need you to be here with me and I'm going to get you back." I could hear the promise in his voice but I couldn't respond. I was there physically there in his room his hands cupped my face as he looked into my eyes promising to bring me back.
"You will learn control, you'll learn to be a vampire but first I'm going to get you back."
I could see it in his eyes the weight of his promise, the determination.
