Chapter 1
Hope’s POV “Human anatomy is divided into different parts…” I stare at my science book, but nothing makes sense. For some reason, my mind drifts off to dreamland. “Hope.” “Hope?” “HOPE!” I snap back to reality when my best friend yells my name. “My gosh, Juliet! Can you not call me without screaming in my ear?” “Sorry! I tried talking normally, but you were so focused on your little daydream that you didn’t hear me.” “By the way, we have homework due tomorrow.” My eyes widened. Since I was daydreaming, I didn’t hear a single thing the teacher said. “Juliet…” I look at her with puppy eyes. Of course, she just looks back with her usual scary stare. “What?” “Can you please send me the details of the homework?” I say while already getting up and running toward the door. “Wait, Hope! Where are you going?” I wave my hand as a thank you before disappearing from her view. “1… 2… 1… 2…” The closer I get, the louder the sound becomes. I look out the window to see what’s happening and realize the high school next door is practicing for their upcoming competition. I’m always amazed by how they practice together with such teamwork and energy. Hey, reader—don’t get me wrong. I’m also good at school. I have perfect A’s in all my subjects. “Okay everyone, let’s take five!” the dance instructor calls out. I’m always mesmerized by people who dance or even sing. I wish I could be like them. But I know my fate is already decided. One day, I’m expected to take over the hospital. I turn around and head toward the exit to go home. At Home “Miss Hope, how was school?” a middle-aged woman asks me. “It was the same as always,” I say with a sigh, handing her my things. “Are Father and Mother home?” “No, Miss…” “Okay. I’ll just be in my room.” Ting. I look at my study table when I hear my phone. It’s a message from Juliet—she sent the details of the homework I need to finish next week. I put my phone down and decided to sleep. Ring… Ring… I woke up to my alarm. I turn it off and slowly walk to the bathroom to freshen up. I wash my face, brush my teeth, and head downstairs for breakfast. “Good morning, Miss Hope,” our housekeeper greets. “Good morning. Where are Mother and Father?” I ask. “Oh, there was a major emergency at the hospital, so they had to leave early.” I nod and sit down to eat breakfast alone. Just another day of being alone at home.
