Chapter 16 Weavers Needle When approaching the Superstition Mountains from the West, a huge column of rock forms a distinctive peak that is visible for miles around. At more than 1000 feet tall, formation is known as “Weavers Needle”. Named after an American mountain man, Army Scout, prospector, and explorer named Powell “ Pauline” Weaver, the rocky landmark appears on nearly every Lost Dutchman map. Weaver was a very kind person, making friends with the Native Americans easily. Once, the Native Americans revealed that gold could be found on the East side of the Colorado River. When he found the gold, it caused a “Gold Rush” that later became the town of La Paz. Today, La Paz is a ghost town.
