ANCIENT CASTLE

I woke up in the big comfortable bed again. Different from yesterday, today I knew more about this world. It was still unbelievable to think that my best friend was a vampire. More than that, I realized that today I was participating in an ancient Light Hunt with vampires, fays and demons. What a day…

I got up and wore the clothes Tammy gave me. They were black tight jeans and dark blue, long sleeve shirt that completely hugged by body. It was more like a corset.  I felt a little uncomfortable to have such tight clothes. But I looked at the mirror and liked what I saw. I was not very fit, but my curves were looking not bad, I thought. Dark blue was looking good with my light blue eyes.

Tammy also gave me a dark thick coat to keep myself warm in Finland. I was still wondering how we were supposed to go there.

I went downstairs and found that everyone was in the big living room.

“Good Morning Amy, did you sleep well?” Mrs. Renorius was looking beautiful and energetic in the morning.

“Yes, the bed is very comfortable. Thank you very much”

“Breakfast is almost ready. I ordered to have a nice human one for you” She smiled kindly again.

“Thank you”. Then I realized that I never asked them the most important question. “I am sorry, I do not want to be rude but just wonder, what do you eat? I mean, I saw Tammy eat normal human food but what about, you know…. blood?”  My voice got lower when I said blood like it was a forbidden word.

Tammy laughed; “Is it not obvious? You are the breakfast for us”

“Hahaha, very funny” I rolled my eyes. I was surprised by everything in the past two days, but I was not going to buy this.

Mrs. Renorius giggled. “We can eat human food, but we also need blood. It does not have to be fresh. There are many donors, willingly giving blood for us and receiving money in return. It is a high paying job”

“I see. I would never think that giving blood could be an occupation.” I said smiling.

“For many, it is” answered Mrs. Renorius smiling back.

After the breakfast, we went to the garden. Tammy was acting nervous again. “Are you ready for your trip?”

“I think so, but how will we go there?”

“By a gate of course”

“Gate?” I looked at them, but no one answered. Instead Mr. Renorius raised his hands and draw some symbols in the air. There were sparkles coming from his hands as he moved. Then, sparkles made a circle and got bigger in front of him. In few seconds, I was staring to a big gate.

Tammy showed the big gate. “Here is your ticket to Finland”

“This? I will go to Finland by this?” I was so surprised, still staring at the big shiny gate in front of us.

“This is a gate. Mages can make this kind of portals to reach far places in seconds. It is like teleportation.”

“But you are vampires, not mages, right?”

“Actually, my grandmother was a witch, so my father and I inherited her powers.” she said smiling.

“Woow, indeed”

Tammy offered her hand. “Hold my hand and do not worry, it will be over in a second”

I held Tammy’s hand and we walked inside the gate following her parents.

It was like walking in a rainbow, there were many lights and sparkles, but it really lasted for only few seconds. Then I found myself in front of a big stone castle, surrounded by trees. The weather was very cold indeed, I was glad that Mrs. Renorius warmed me to bring a coat. 

Tammy tightened her grip on my hand. “Are you ok?”

I looked at my breath was making a steam. “I am fine, it is amazing that we came to a different continent in few seconds.”

I looked around. The castle had five tall towers, all had one big statue standing on the top. One statue had fangs as I could see, the other had claws. Other ones were hard to see from a far, but I could tell they were also not humans.

Mrs. Renorius came closer and put her hand on my shoulder. “Here is the castle for Elders and participants to rest before the Hunt. You will see different looking people here, do not worry Amy. No harm will come when you are with us”

Mr. Renorius also turned to us with a serious face. “The Sacred Light Hunt will be in that forest. The light is hidden and only the worthy one can find it and touch it. There are not only the participants but also others in the forest who will try to stop you. You two should always be careful”

Tammy squeezed my hand again. “Of course, Father, we will be careful”

“I will also be with them Mr. Renorius” Raskar appeared suddenly next to us. He was so quiet and fast, I did not even hear him coming.

“Raskar, good to see you again. Oh, dear Belaris and Howard, I hope all is fine” said Mrs. Renorius looking behind us.

I turned back to see one woman and man walking to us.

“Pleasure to see you Kanarisa, Ramiel. Dear Tameris, you look wonderful” said the woman smiling to Tammy.

Tammy also smiled. “Mrs. Savolen, Mr. Savolen, it is great to you both. Let me introduce my friend Amy Heldrew” She then turned to me. “Amy, these are Raskar’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Savolen”

“Pleasure to meet you” I said smiling. They were looking very beautiful. I could see that Raskar took his green eyes from his mother, but rest was certainly from his father.

“A human... We heard that there will be a human participant, is that her?” asked Mrs. Savolen curiously.

Mrs. Renorius nod her head. “Yes, as the Elders decided, she will represent humans here”

Mr. Savolen looked at me. “Well then, certainly it will be an interesting Hunt. We are very lucky to witness such an important event that happens only once in every millennium. Furthermore, to see a human participant after such a long time, it is indeed very special”

Mr. Renorius showed the entrance. “Let us move inside the castle. My father must be waiting. After the feast, we will move to the entrance point with everyone.”

As we start walking, I saw a big group coming from a short distance. Their appearances were so unique. Some had very long nails that were looking like claws. I found their movements very abnormal too, more athletic than normal people and sometimes very fast that I could not even follow the small movement.

Then my eyes met with one guy. He looked Asian. He was tall and lean, looking like a model. He had tanned skin, brown hair but the most catching part was his eyes, they were gray, more like a really bright silver color. He showed a shy smile and continued walking with his group. What a cute guy, I thought. I wanted to rub his head and pinch his cheeks.

“Are you looking at the silver eyed Asian?” asked Tammy whispering to my ear.

“Yeah, isn’t he very different?”

“I know, I also found myself looking at him. Not because of how he looks or moves, more like some energy. I feel like I know him.” Tammy looked at the back of Raskar who was walking with his parent. She looked panicked. “I mean, he is like a brother, I felt it that way” She probably got worried that he heard our conversation, so she added the brother part on purpose, I thought. But I realized that it was exactly how I felt about him too.

We walked inside the castle, which was even more amazing. There were huge drawings on the walls. They were very shiny, and every inch had a decoration of small statues surrounding them.  One big drawing on the ceiling looked different than the others. It was a big circle, divided into five. Inside, there were five people, two women and three men. One woman had fangs, the other had pitch-black eyes. One man was looking like human, the other had snake like eyes and claws. Last man had skin full of silver tattoos with yellow eyes. They were all beautiful and it felt like they were watching everyone from above.

Tammy whispered to me again. “They are the first Elders. You can tell what they are, right?  Vampire, Demon, Human, Shifter and Fay. They are the first Queens and Kings of our races; each are very important heroes. Did you see their statues outside on top of the five towers?”

“Yes, I saw the statues, so they were the first Elders. I can tell that they are different and special, even from a drawing” I could not take me eyes away from the drawing.

Then we heard noises behind us, from the entrance.  As I turned my head back, I saw people coming inside the castle. They stood on both sides of the door and bowed their heads and stood like that. Their wait did not take long as an old man entered. He was covered in black clothes completely, showing only his head. Therefore his long white hair was looking whiter above all that black clothes. He was walking arrogantly, looking around the bowing people with a smirk on his face. What caused me to hold my breath was that a black hooded guy followed him inside.

He was tall and built. His walk was full of pride. Every step was giving a signal like he was dangerous. But I was familiar with that appearance, it was just like in my dream. My heart skipped a beat. I could not believe that he was real. His hood was covering most of his face. He rose his head a little bit, which made it possible to see his lips and his smooth chin.  I could tell that he was a young guy. His upper face was still hard to see because of the hood but I felt like he was looking at me too. My whole body froze for a second and just kept looking at him.

“Amy come this way, don’t stand there” Tammy pulled my arm. “He is the demon Elder, we should keep some distance”

“Tameris, we need to move to see your grandfather, come” said Mr. Renorius.

I moved my gaze away from him and followed Tammy and the others.

Tammy was still holding my arm. “This castle has five towers; you already saw from outside. Each Elder rest in their own tower with their families. There will be an audience to watch the hunt as well, they are now visiting their Elders to give their respect. So we are also going to visit my grandfather”

I blinked. “Wait, that sounds like your grandfather is the Vampire Elder?”

Raskar was walking ahead of us and looked from his back. “You do not know that Tameris’ family is the most prestigious family in vampire world because they are the Vampire Elder’s family?”

“What! No one told me that!” I said in protest, looking at Tammy.

“Opps” she said, rolling her eyes. I gave her a glare. She was great at leaving out the most important parts.

We walked by many vampires I think because most of them had fangs and bowed their heads while we were passing by. Tammy’s family indeed looked very important in their world.

Every corner of the castle had another artwork. The pictures on the walls were showing vampire history. There were wars, kings, queens, empires that I did not even heard of.

There was a big door ahead. When we got closer, it was opened. Inside was a big ball room; many vampires again bowed their heads as soon as they saw Mr. and Mrs. Renorius. Some were looking at me too, but I did not enjoy their stare, it did not look gentle. The room was decorated in black and red colors. In one corner, there was a huge open buffet looking very delicious.

“Stop looking at the food, genius” Tammy said smiling.

“Sorry” I smiled back. But under stress I would feel hungry surely.

Tammy showed the other side of the room. “ My grandfather is there”

I saw an old man sitting on a big throne. There were vampire statues around it, like they were protecting the throne.

Mr. Renorius got closer and took the old man’s hand and kissed it. “Father, we are honored to be in your presence”

The old man looked pleased. “Son, welcome. Tonight, will be the beginning of a new era.” Then he looked at Tammy. “ Where is my Chosen one, come, my child” She took a deep breath and walked towards the old man slowly. She also took his hand and kissed it. “Grandfather”

Old Man looked at Tammy smiling, he took her chin in his palm. “Dear Child, how beautiful you have become. Tonight, this tender beauty will touch the purest power. I have great expectations from you for our nation.” Tammy bowed her head as a reply and walked back to my side.

The Vampire Elder rose his hands. “Enjoy the dinner, My Children. Because after tonight, no one can question our vampire superiority with a Chosen One from us. Her light will protect our nation and lead us to a brighter era.” The crowd rose their glasses.

Tammy pulled me. “Let’s also eat something Amy. But do not eat without asking me if you do not fancy blood flavor”

I smiled. “Good reminder, I would not want that”

Together with Raskar, we went to the open buffet and I happily took some food in my plate. In a room full of vampires and as a human who was about to enter an ancient hunt with supernatural creatures, I thought I should just enjoy my dinner. My easy-going side could be very useful at such times. But stares from everyone was still giving me a pressure.

“Is this the rumored human who will enter the hunt?” a guy around our age came closer. He had bright red hair and eyes. His fangs were very pointy, being shown with his smile.

Tammy looked at him coldly. “Yes, she is my friend, Amy Heldrew. Amy, this is Ermin Hobennacht, he is from one of the pure blood vampire families I told you about.”

“Hi, I am Amy” I said. But I was not very eager to meet him, he was also looking at me in a way I did not like.

Raskar spoke behind me. “If your curiosity is satisfied, I suggest you to enjoy your dinner somewhere away from us”

Ermin Hobennacht looked at Raskar with an annoyed look. “Savolen, as kind as always. Excuse me now, ladies. It was a pleasure to meet you, Amy. I will be watching you, good luck.” He left smiling to us, but I felt that he was afraid of Raskar.

“You do not like him very much” said Tammy, looking at Raskar.

Raskar was still looking at Ermin, sending him his warning look. “I know him well enough not to trust him, Tameris. I hope you do the same”

“Do not worry. We are not close anyway”

We continued to eat but everyone around us were looking at me with curious eyes. I think rumor of the human participant was a popular topic today.

Then I heard a loud bell. It gave me chills.

“This is the calling; the hunt is starting. We need to go” said Tammy, looking at me and Raskar with worried eyes.

The Vampire Elder got up from his throne. Everyone turned to him. His eyes were shining in bright red. He showed a big smiled. “Come my Children, the time has come”

I became nervous again and prayed that we could go back home in one piece tomorrow. I really did not know what was going to happen. I held my best friend’s hand and looked at her. Her eyes were worried.

We walked together to our destiny, without knowing that tonight was going to change everything.
