Shawn was already having a hard time taking care of his grandpa and now in addition Jessie, she had been admitted after been attended to, Shawn could see her.
He knew it was a very minor injury but due to a health condition she had lost a lot of blood, Jessie had a condition called haemophilia which was the inability for the blood to clot and that's why he has been careful about her and specific that she doesn't get injured under any circumstances.
Jessie was still unconscious and on blood transfusion with Shawn sitting beside her, within a few minutes Mr Mark came into the room in a wheelchair with the help of a nurse,
" What happened?" he asked worried as he took a glance at his greatgranddaughter who was lying down on the bed unconscious
" Why are you here? you should be resting"
" I can't do that when I know Jesse is right here" he said in a low tone
" She's fine, she just needs rest, transfusion and after that I think she's good to go home" he was try to ease his grandfather's worries as he walked over to take over the wheelchair and pushed him towards Jessie's bed.
" How did this happen?" Mr Mark asked holding her little hands in his.
" According to the class teacher, she had no idea that she was injured. She had excused herself to use the bathroom when it happened, which the teacher granted, she was in the bathroom for about 30 minutes, which was their break time, after which everyone came back in except Jessie and then the teacher became worried and decided to go check up on her and she was found in the bathroom unconscious and in pool the of her own blood with a couple of tissues in her hand which meant she was trying to stop the bleeding herself" Shawn carefully explained.
" This is all your fault" Mr Mark spoke as he turned towards Shawn
" And how is that?" he asked confused, whatever he had done till this point was for her sake
" You always scold her whenever she gets injured, that's why she was so scared and not able to tell her own class teacher, she didn't want it to be scolded by you" he pointed out knowing his grandson only had nothing but love for his little girl.
" I only do that just so she would understand and know how important it is for her to be safe, I never knew it would lead to something like this." His eye moved back to his daughter on the bed, he couldn't help but gather tear in his eyes.
" I know that but she's just a child, she was too scared that you'll get mad at her." His grandpa explained placing his right hand on Shawn's hand to give him some sort of comfort.
" I know it has been hard after everything that has happened and you are just concerned because of the accident, Shawn that was 2 yrs ago. Jessie needs to live like a child even if she has a little restrictions. You don't take her to the park anymore just keep her locked in. Which isn't fair" he advised..
" But Gran..."
" No buts, I understand she's your responsibility but don't keep her locked away from the world like she had some kind of deadly disease that no one needs." He concluded
Shawn has been overprotective not just because of what happened 2 years back but also his past, he was scared, that's the one thing he hated his past and he felt like it kept coming back to haunt him.
The image of the man he despise the most flashed through his eyes, he started to feel a familiar tightness in his chest as well as his stomach and he knew immediately he needed to use the restroom, he didn't need his grandpa more worried than he was,he got up from his seat where he sat.
" Where are you going" Mr Mark asked, noticing the sudden change.
" I left a few of my patients unattended to, I'm going to check up on them" he lied excusing himself and rushed into the bathroom in his call room about to throw up, after struggling to throw up his intestines, he washed his face.
He gradually lifted his head and looked at his reflection in the mirror but the only thing he could see was the image of that one man that he hated the most.
" Do you think you can escape?" His voice rang through his head, despite it being years, he still felt the same chills he did when he was just a child.
" You're just in my head, you're only in my head" he murmured to himself closing his eyes tightly.
" Is that what you think, I own you, you are just like me" the voice continued.
" No! Never, I'll never become anything like you. I'll raise my daughter with the love you never gave me." he said almost yelled.
" Get out of my head" he said as he was beginning to feel like he was been choked, he dashed out of the restroom breathless as he took slow steps towards his desk where his bag laid.
He popped the zip opened as his hands searched through it, breathing became difficult for him as he could still feel the tightness in the chest increasing as the minutes passed, his hand finally grips his inhaler, he quickly pulled it out before taking a few puffs of it and sitting back on his seat with his head at the seat rest, still trying to catch his breath with his eyes closed.
He wondered why he was badly affected by the memories of his past.
