(Titus's POV)
We went to the affected packs. Each of them tells us their story about the night of the hunters destroying everything in their path. I saw the bodies of men, women, and children. Goddess, they showed no mercy to the children, not even the newborn pups. They wanted to kill off entire packs entirely. No survivors. They never saw them coming, using silver as their weapon of choice to kill us.
"I'm so sorry for the loss of your mate and daughters," I said to the young warrior, who was by the graves of his mate and six daughters. Two of them were barely a month old; killing defenseless pups is unforgivable. "We will do everything we can to ensure this never happens again.
"Thank you, my lord. May I be excused so I can grieve?" The warrior asked me.
"Of course." Jack and I left him, and we heard his sorrow, his agony. "Jack, we have to find these hunters. They need to be stopped!" I growled.
"We haven't done anything antagonistic to them to make them hate us, so why are they attacking?" Jack asked me. "I'm going to talk to more of the survivors." I nodded at Jack, and he left.
All this has made me think about Aurora. I can't bring her into this life. I refuse to let her be a part of this. Jamie was whining in my head. "I need her, Titus! We need her," Jamie cried. "We have to stay away for her safety," I said to Jamie. "We should be holding our mate in our arms, keeping her safe ourselves," Jamie growled. "That's enough, stop it. Let's go find the others."
The whole week has been draining. Two hundred fifty werewolf survivors out of the six-packs were destroyed. Two hundred fifty werewolves are homeless and at risk of becoming rogues. My father and I took those survivors in, providing them with a room to stay in for the meantime. We are currently building houses for them around the territory. During my visits to one of the affected packs, a teen werewolf lost his mate, and he had just met her; he then committed suicide.
"Titus, come quick!" Jack yelled out. I turned to face him, and with that look, he gave me all the information I needed. I followed him to the dungeons and told the guards that they could leave us with the prisoner.
"So, what do we have here?" I chuckled at the badly beaten werewolf.
"The rogue claims to have a message for you," Jack explained. "He never said anything other than that he wanted to deliver the message to you directly."
"Okay, speak!" I used my alpha voice. He has no choice but to listen to me.
"We know. Gabrial was out in the woods one night, and your precious little mate stumbled across him. It didn't take us long to realize that she was your mate. Where she lives, her entire family, her routine. Gabrial has told me to inform you of the details of what he plans to do to her. He can't wait to give her to the pack. For them all to feel her body all over them, her hot breath down their neck. Tell me, Titus, when was the last time you talked to your mate?"
"SHUT UP. " I punched the rogue to the wall, then shifted into Jamie and tore him apart. I hated how he was talking about my mate with another man. I let Jamie take over. I had a forced shift. Jack managed to pull me off him before I could kill him, and I wanted to end his life. Jack took me to my bedroom, but Aurora was all I could think about; where was she??
(Aurora's POV)
(Meanwhile)
"Okay, girls, I have called this meeting because I wanted to let you know that you made it to the squad." Erin cheered, blowing up a small confetti popper.
I have to say that I was very relieved to make it into the squad. I was the cheer captain at my old school and led them into the finals. I hope no one discovers why I quit cheerleading in the first place. Not that it would matter now cause I'm cheerleading again.
"Okay, girls, follow me into the changing rooms and try on your new uniforms." Erin smiled
The squad went back inside the school, went to the changing rooms, and tried on our new outfits. I expected them to match the school's colors, but I didn't expect them to be purple, blue, and white. "So, how do you feel?" Erin asked me.
I looked at her, smiling. "Like an Avalon cheerleader. I feel like I'm a new woman," I said.
"You look like you too," Erin laughed. "I can't believe how amazing you were at tryouts. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were a cheerleader at your old school."
"Yeah, only for a little bit." I shrugged.
"I heard that Aurora was the cheer captain at her old school," Sadie smirked. How the f**k did she find that out? No one is supposed to know about my past.
Erin gasped, "No f*****g way!?"
"Wasn't there an accident?" Sadie placed her fingers on her chin, thinking sarcastically. "It was your fault, wasn't it, Aurora?" Sadie giggled. Erin turned to face her, confused, while I did not speak a word. How does she know about this? "Didn't you come up with a routine that put one of your girls in the hospital?"
"I thought she was capable," I said, then immediately covered my mouth. f**k.
"Oh, but you thought wrong, sweetheart. Isn't she in a wheelchair now? Never able to walk again?
Flashbacks of that night when my squad and I were performing for the championship finals. "Aurora? Aurora?!" Erin said, shaking me out of my trance. "Are you okay?" Erin said. I ran out of the changing rooms and began to cry outside. The sun was starting to set.
"Aurora, are you okay??" Erin said, hugging me. "It wasn't your fault."
"How would you know?" I said coldly. "You weren't even there." I sobbed.
"Then tell me what happened," Erin smiled.
"We were in the finals for the winter cup championship. I knew what I needed from my girls to win. But I pushed one of my girls too hard. She didn't want to do it, but I made her anyway. She was in the air and freaked out; she fell headfirst and was taken to the hospital. I jeopardized my team winning the championship, and I also risked her cheerleading career. I can't forgive myself for what happened.
"Aurora, we all know the risks of being a cheerleader, and you did what you thought was right at the time, but now you need to stop beating yourself up over it. She could have said no but went with your decision anyway," Erin said.
"That's what she said." I giggled at the exact words I heard from her.
"See, if she can forgive you, then you can too. The only way to truly be forgiven is if you have the power to forgive yourself." Erin smiled. Damn these words of wisdom.
I looked Erin in the eyes. "Your right. It's time to leave the past in the past. No longer will it control me for my future."
"That's the spirit. There's the smile I've been waiting to see. Now let's go to my house." Erin paused for a moment. "OMG! I have to show you my house!"
"I thought your eighteenth birthday was at your house," I said.
Erin burst into laughter for a bit. "Oh honey, that was just a rental. Wait till you see my actual house." Erin giggled.
Erin drove me to her house and took me inside. The interior of her home took my breath away. It was stunning. How rich is this b***h? "This is your house?"
"Yup!" Erin laughed.
"I can see why you had to get a rental, as most people would be taking advantage of this," I said. "Why am I an exception?"
Erin gave me a friendly smile. "I feel that you will be hanging around us for a long time," Erin said. "We will be like sisters; now, let's go to the kitchen and grab some ice cream." Erin took me to the kitchen and showed me her secret stash of ice cream, and she had a lot. I then saw Jack coming down behind Erin.
"Uh, Erin, sweetie," Jack said
"You're home!!" Erin jumped on Jack, kissing him. "Is my father back? Titus?"
"Yeah. We might have a problem," Jack said.
We then heard a crash upstairs, and Jack went running towards it. "What was that?"
"I didn't hear anything." Erin lied, and I went running after Jack. I stopped at the open door. "Wait, Aurora, don't go in there.
"WHAT THE f**k!" I screamed.
