There is no way I can level up in a short amount of time. Still, I wanted to defeat that fire dragon.
Because if I defeat that fire dragon. I feel like I’m one step closer to my goal.
This following day after I run away from the dragon den. I continue to travel and defeat the powerful monsters in m sight. Apparently, there are only a few monsters that exceed level 100. For me who is currently level 180 am struggling to accumulate experience points to level up.
Even I have a pride ability that increases my experience points after I defeated a monster. The experience points I gain are still close to none.

I make a big sigh and continue to clear the monster in the forest.
After almost half a day of hard work grinding and defeating monsters, I lay down in the shade. The thick moss in the grassy hills is so comfortable it makes me yawn. The weather is nice. It’s windy and the sky is clear.

I muttered.
Behind me, a shadow loomed over me and I turn my eye’s behind me.
“Sleeping outside defenseless, what are you thinking Mayu?”
It’s the own familiar voice. It’s a strong-willed voice of the red-haired girl that I know.
“Akane…”
Akane then lay down beside me and look up in the sky.
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing.”
“Are you feeling okay now? Are you still blaming yourself for the happening in the world tree Island?”
I then turn my head left and right, then smiled.
Akane smiled and said:
“Thank goodness… I thought you will become more reckless, after the happening. Also, you’re ears. You’re not using transformation magic anymore.”
“You know it?”
Akane nodded and said:
“I status check you before, I saw that you're an elf race. It scared me a little because the elf is said to be a dark disciple… But I can feel that you’re a good person… Only, a good person has the ability to blame itself to the tragedy that is out of its control.”
“What happened to the heroes?”
“They move on and decided to train harder, the death of their classmates make them stronger. Some of them join the kingdom knight squad and about to join the front lines. It’s been half a year now.”

The memories of Kaede are still fresh in my mind.

I turn my head to the girl beside me and notice how she is sleeping in peace.

Because of what she did I can’t possibly sleep. If I also fell asleep no one is going to guard her. If I leave her a p*****t might attack her because she is defenseless.
I don’t have a choice but to stay beside her until she woke up.

Time passed and the sun is about to set. Adventurers are going back to their home and the red-haired girl is still sleeping peacefully with her saliva drooling from her mouth.
She has a funny face.
“What are those two adventurers doing?”
“We’re outside defeating monsters to protect the people in town and they are just sleeping soundly.”
“Talk about laziness.”
The adventurers whispered as they passed by to us.
I do think that the time is wasted. I want to be more productive and level up so that I can defeat that fire dragon.
Akane opens her eyes slowly and then gets up sitting in the moss. She still seems to be half asleep and then rubs her eyes.
“I did fell asleep.”
She looks in my direction.
“Good morning.”
I said.
“Mayu… I see, you waited for me to wake up, thank you.”
Akane stood up and wipe the drool on her face and the grass leaves that stick on her clothes and skirt.
“I feel like we wasted time here.”
“It’s not wasted, resting is also important. I rest every weekend. Also, the weather is very nice, sleeping doing the things that you only want give’s me a great feeling of satisfaction. At this moment I feel that I’m living my life…”
Akane said as she stretches her arms upward and walked toward me.
“... You did guard me while I’m sleeping I guess, I have to do something for you.”

She then dragged me to the near town called Floaroma. The structure of the house is colorful and there are flowers everywhere I look at my surroundings.
A vendor passed by I scented a delicious aroma.
Akane then gives me a bun that released a similar aroma.
“Take this.”
“This smells so good.”
“We’re proud in this bun. Inside it has some meat filling. Take a bite.”
I take a bite to the bun. I tasted the meat and the bun together. The bun seems to be made of wheat flour and the tender meat as its filling makes it a perfect pair. This feels like eating a fulfilling meal.
“Your proud of this bun, does that mean you’re living here?”
“Yes, this is my hometown. My parents run a restaurant business here before they die. I wanted to become sword saint, I can’t resume the restaurant.”
“Sorry, I might remind you something.”
“Don’t sweat it, I move on a long time ago. My mother will only feel sad if I keep being sad. That’s why I want to fulfill my dream and became happy in the future.”
I envy Akane’s way of thinking.

Akane brought me to her home. It’s a simple home. It’s not that big or not that small. One family of four can live in this place.
“Just sit down there I will make something for you to eat.”

It appears like I don’t have a chance to win in her argument.
Before Akane starts cooking.
I opened my inventory and get some pig meat for her to use.
“Akane you can use this meat. It’s the meat of the forest pig I defeat before. Good thing that it’s not spoiled yet.”
“Thank you, we can make a delicious hot pot with this.”
This home feels nice and comfortable, makes me remember the room of Rin in Elesis fort. I wonder what happened to them, maybe I should go back for a visit sometime.
I turn my eyes to the girl cooking in the kitchen and got surprised by the knife she’s using.
“Geh?”
Akane gets a thin-looking sword.
“Sword skill: Chain-cutting s***h!”
With her sword skill, she cut the vegetables and meat. She looks so proud doing that.
Everything is perfectly diced for some reason.
After half an hour the food is done and Akane brings it to the table.
“This is the Red riding restaurant special dice meat and vegetable hotpot! Please enjoy!”
I then get my chopsticks and get one of the meat and vegetable. Everything is diced, even the leafy vegetable is diced.
How is this possible?
Akane also makes some roast meat using the pig meat that I give to her. There is also rice to make the dinner more fulfilling.
Her cooking is really good expected to the girl grow up in a restaurant business.
“This is really good, Akane, you will become a great wife in the future.”
Akane was fluttered and look at my face smiling.
“You think so, well, I’m not that interested in boys… Maybe you should consider being with me.”
“being with you? I’m not like that.”
“I’m saying as an adventuring partner, are you thinking about marrying me?”
My face became red and then I continue to eat my food.

I’m scared what if another of my friend die again. I don’t want it to happen.
“... I’m scared… What if you die?”
“Then what if you die?”
Akane returns the question to me.
“There are people still caring for you in this world Mayu… Like those people in Elesis fort and the people, you make friends with while in the middle of your journey. I’m your friend I can’t let a friend battle alone. I will fight with you. I will fight that dragon with you… Believe in me.”
She said and use her chopsticks to press my forehead and engrave her statement to my mind.
She is right, if I believe in my comrade and not become prideful, maybe the outcome will become different.
I’m always alone. I play my games alone. I don’t really think of my ally back then as long as I win the game. I’m so prideful, thinking that I can deal with everything on my own.
A friend, I’m not used to having one in my previous world.
But in the time I was reincarnated in this world. I made lots of friends even though I’m such a loner.
I then smiled looking at Akane’s face.
“I’m in front lines right now and we’re going to defeat a monster. Do you want to come with us? You might gain experience points and level up.”
“Yes.”
I nodded as I reply.
This time I will fight with a friend.
