Chapter 17: The girl I met in the forest

A high-level monster appeared. It’s level 50 and has poison attributes. One of my special ability consist in using poison. Meaning using that technique will not work on this one. This monster’s level is higher than mine. This is trouble especially for these two.

Marry and Rin are in great trouble.
“This is dangerous, Marry take Mayu and leave this forest. I will take care of this.”
Said Rin.
“No way, I’m doing that. I know Mayu feels the same. Let’s just fight this monster with all we’ve got. This monster is a Slime king and looking at its body color you can tell it’s poison type. I can use my healing magic to protect you.”
Said Marry to Rin.
I nodded and pointed my sword to the slime king.
Looks like they have a bond greater than friendship. I really envy people who have this bond. Maybe, it’s because I living my life alone. It’s lonely until I met this person in this world. Retto even I don’t get him to teach me a lot.
I then move forward and focus on the slime.
“Mayu stand back physical attack won’t work on that.”
Said, Marry.
I’m thinking about this thing all this time. I think this is the right time to test this.
“Sword Magic: Wind Cutter!”
My sword then released a blade of wind and cut down the slime in half. The poison inside the slime body starts leaking and killing the nearby plants.
I work, I simply combine two of my skill. I combine Sword skill: Cut and Wind magic: Wind s***h. I guess, it works. That skill has magic and skill. I even easily cut down the slime body.
It’s been a while since I use this ability.
[Fire flash ability: Makes you immune to Fire-type skill/magic and will activate when hit by one. When activated, the power of Fire-type skill/magic is increased by 50%.]
“Fire magic: Pyro ball!”
(An upgraded version of a fireball.)
A giant ball of fire crashed toward the poison slime king.
I got excited about using my magic. This fire might burn the entire forest. I need to do something.
“Water magic: Water gun!”
I use my water to put off the fire I created.
I then wipe the sweat that falls from my forehead.
That was close. I didn’t know that Flash fire really increase my firepower that much.
I didn’t really use it much in Crystal dungeon. Since I tried I I guess I can measure my magic now.
I turned my glance to my two companions.
“You sure have an intense amount of magic inside you.”
“You're so powerful, I can’t believe the little sister is better than the big sister. As the big sister, I should be the one that looks cool.”
It’s okay Rin. I still look up to you as a big sister.
The window appeared in my vision again.
[Title acquired: Slime slayer.]
What’s this title even means? Slime is the weakest monster in every Role-playing game. There no need for such a title.
“I’m starting to believe that you really are an adventurer. Maybe I should check your status once we go back to the fort. There is a status card that can reveal your status there.”
“She sure looks more powerful than us, she uses those magic and still standing up meaning her magic is still plenty.”
Don’t flatter me like that, but a knowing item like exist will make things easier. I can explain that I’m strong and can handle myself. Keeping this a secret is not really necessary.
Now time to go back to the fort and explain me to Captain Yuri.
The bush then started to move. We all turned our heads in the direction quickly.
Another monster? This is the monster area. Of course, that possibility is normal. Then. If it’s another king slime then I have to throw some lightning strike on it.
A girl suddenly jumps out from the bush.
“A girl?!”
“It’s Meily… What are you doing in this dangerous forest? You should be in school right now.”
Said, Marry.
“School is stupid that not the place for smart people. That’s not important now. I’m more interested in this girl. I saw your magic earlier and it’s so awesome. You're so cool. What did you do to become that powerful?”
Meily then comes closer and closer.
“Well, I trained...”
I turned my eye’s away.
Well, this girl is looking at me like a celebrity. I feel uneasy when someone is staring at me like this. Especially this close.
“I see you such a hard worker, aren’t you. It’s our first time meeting let me introduce myself. My name is Meily I’m a student in adventurer school in Elesis fort. Where are you studying?”
“I’m not in school.”
“I see, school is really stupid after all. Their educational method is out of date and I don’t feel anything fun. I can relate if you feel the same way.”
Said Meily.
I don’t feel the same way but I get what she’s talking about. School life is so boring for introverts like me. I always feel like I’m drowning in society and when I’m in school their stare and judgment really hurt me. Even It’s like that I continue going to school so that I can have a better job when I grew up. But that day will never gonna happen anymore. I died in the real-world and got reincarnated here.
Meily then held my hands.
“Can you teach me those magic you use?”
“I’m not sure if I can teach you.”
Honestly, I’m not very familiar with how magic works in this world. I feel confused about the power system myself. The creator of this game sure has bad taste.
“You're attending school right? Why your not in school? I’m sure adventurer school can teach you about magic.”
I said.
She then looks away and said.
“That’s not good…”
Her face is a bit depressed after hearing me.
“Anyway, I’m not going to school yet. I will do my best and have money for my mother.”
Said Meily and leave.
Before she leaves she gets a basket full of herbs and runs away.
“That girl really has a tough life. Her mother is sick and her father passed away before she’s even born. Now she is the only one providing money in her home.”
Rin said.
“Captain Yuri as the lord of the fort. Already given her helping hand but she refuses to have it. She doesn’t want to be a burden to the fort. She said she will earn her own money and by medicine for her mother.”
Marry said.
“I guess, I will treat her nicely when I see her again.”
I said.
She is working hard for her mother. I guess she really loves her mother. Definitely opposite to be who always reject my own mother. I feel like I’m trash compare to her.
“Captain Yuri tells the potion shop to always bought the herbs she gets and uses them in potion-making. That’s how she’s earning her money right now. Honestly, Captain Yuri always giving her extra money in her payslip with her knowing. Captain Yuri knew that this kid didn’t deserve to work at such young age.”
“Captain Yuri sure is amazing.”
I said.
“That’s right she is amazing.”
After that, we go back to the fort.

Meanwhile, After Meily leaves the forest and delivers the herns to the potion shop.
“You working hard again Meily. Here have this cookie this is freshly baked.’
“No no no, I can handle myself.”
“You're so prideful like always, as a child it’s okay to rely upon grown-ups.”
Said the potion shop owner.
“I said I don’t need it!”
Meily snapped and leave the shop with a slamming door sound.
She then started walking back to her home with a serious expression. Thinking back on the days that happened in this fort a long time ago. At the time her mother started to become sick.
Because of her lack of money, her mother never made it to the hospital. People always say that no one will pay them if they treat their mother. It’s a waste of time and energy.
Seeing those things make Meily distrust the adults.
She asked for help in the neighborhood but no one helped her at that time she is very miserable.
“ I won’t rely on them, I will earn my money and bing medicine to mother. Those shitty adults.”
Meily said.
While walking on the trail back to her home.
Meily notices a trail of blood. It’s a severely wounded rabbit.
“A rabbit?”
Then a girl in a black robe appeared she then walked toward the rabbit and healed her using her magic.
The rabbit became lively and started running like normal.
“That rabbit was healed instantly? Is that a work of God? It’s a miracle? No, even a scratch remained.”
“It’s not a work of God, it’s a work of me. Excuse me I have to go somewhere else.”
Said the girl inside the black robe.
“You… You can heal people right?”
“I do… Why asked me?”
“My mother is sick can you heal her?”
“Then you're payment.”
“Payment? I see you’re like those adults. You just like money and don’t have the kind heart to help people in goodwill.”
“Money? It's not money I seek. I will treat your mother in exchange for you will come to assist me. Can you make a contract for me? I’m doing some experimentation in this fort. What you’re name?”
“Meily… Just Meily.”
“I see we are alike… I’m Eriko… Just Eriko.”
“Can I really trust you?”
“Of course you can trust me, I will teach you an ability that only you can use.”
“What kind of experiment are you doing?”
“Hmmm… It’s a secret. First, bring me to your mother and I will treat her right away.”
Meily nodded and show her the path to her home.
Reaching Meily's home. The bedridden mother sleeps in her bed. Her skin is pale and her lips are so dry.
Meily immediately gets some water to wake her mother.
“Drink this mother this water is from the spring. It’s really good.”
Her mother slowly opened her eyes and turn her glance to Meily who looks very worried. She then turned her eyes to Eriko.
“Who is this girl? A friend?”
“Yeah, I’m her friend and we’re about to make a contract.”
Eriko said and put her hands on Meily’s mother's chest.
“Contract…”
Eriko’s hand started to glow and the pale-looking skin of Meily’s mother started to show life. In few moments the bedridden mother of Meily gets up and feels better.
“What happened? It’s a miracle.”
“Mother!”
Meily jumped to hugged her mother.
“Meily! I’m okay now, you can live normally now.”
“Well, I did my part then let's make a contract. You will become my assistant in my experiment in this fort.”
Meily nodded in agreement to Eriko.
The demon girl and the sad lonely girl met. The chaos is about to fall in Elesis fort and to the lives of people living there.
