Chapter 1
***Lizzy's Point of View***
There I was, a week before Valentine's Day and I was completely dateless. I've went out a few times the week before but they were all losers. One only wanted to talk about cars, another only wanted to talk about sports, then another one only wanted to talk about all things supernatural. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with every once in a while. I must be like a freak magnet or something.
Besides the lack of my love life my life couldn't be less perfect. I work as a desk clerk to the higherup and really don't see myself going any further in the company. My quaint apartment is located just outside New Orleans. I'm told there is a party every night down in the French Quarter. I'm not really much of a party person so I'm perfectly fine with not going. My best friend Abby though is the life of the party and on top of all things social media when she's not working. She constantly works long hours to try and succeed and move up with the company she works for. So she deserves to have a little fun on her time off.
We are suppose to meet up for lunch today so we can maybe fix our Valentine's blues. Since both of us are dateless she talked me into a speed dating night at a local club.
"Lizzy? Are you listening to me"?
"Huh? Oh, sorry Abby I got distracted. What were you saying"?
"Are you excited about tonight? You didn't forget did you"?
"Of course I didn't forget. Its just not really my scene so I'm not as excited as you are".
"Well how are you going to get a date for Valentine's Day if you don't put yourself out there Lizzy".
"I guess you have a point there. Are we getting ready at your place or mine tonight"?
"We can get ready at mine since it's closer to the club".
"Sounds good to me. I gotta run though or I'm going to be late. See you later Abby".
Walking back to the office after lunch was the last thing I wanted to do. But blowing off the rest of the afternoon was not really an option. So to the office I went. I was lost in my own thoughts about tonight's plans when suddenly I tripped and fell into someone. The someone that I ran into just happened to be completely stunning. From the dark locks of his hair all the way down to his shoes. After looking him up and down I blush and remember that I haven't apologized yet. So I look up again and see his beautiful green eyes looking back at me.
"Sorry sir. I didn't mean to run into you".
"It's alright. You looked like you were in a rush. Sorry for being in your way miss"?
"Oh, uh Lizzy. My name is Lizzy".
"Well it's nice to meet you Lizzy. My name is Nick".
"It's nice to meet you to Nick but you must excuse me or I'm going to be late".
"Of course, have a nice day Lizzy".
As I started my journey to the office again I couldn't take my mind off Nick. Who was he and why haven't I see him before? I always take this route back to the office and I've never seen him. Maybe he's new to town.
Half way through the afternoon and my mind keeps going back to Nick. I can't help but wonder how it would feel to be in his bed next to him. I quickly shake the thought from my head and realize I'm not doing any good at the office. I send a quick email to the boss letting him know I'm leaving early, grab my things and am out the door in less than 10 minutes.
I get in my car and run over to the mall in hopes of finding a cute outfit for tonight. I shoot Abby a quick text telling her I blew the rest of the afternoon off. Of course she texts back right away informing me that she is on her way. That's one thing I love about Abby. She always knows when I need her even when I don't.
The first place I head to is the food court. I've had a confusing day and in desperate need of some comfort food. I grab a pretzel and a coke and wait for Abby to show up. Just as I'm finishing up Abby shows up. She looks at me and says "That bad huh"?
"How'd you guess"?
"You started with the food court. I am you best friend you know"?
"Yeah I know. I can't keep my mind off the guy I met after I left you".
"You met a guy after lunch"?
This is the hard part. I want to tell her because she is my best friend, but I also want to keep him a secret for just a little while longer.
"Come on Lizzy I'm waiting. What happened with this guy you met"?
"I, um, kinda tripped and fell into him".
"That's the big secret? I run into people all the time its not a big deal".
"Well no except I've never seen him before today".
"Maybe you just haven't been paying attention. You work way to hard for the company".
"Maybe. He just threw me off guard. But let me tell you Abby he was gorgeous".
"Oh really now? Well do you have a name for this mystery guy"?
"Um no. I didn't think to ask. So where should we start"?
Getting Abby distracted by clothes was easier than I thought it would be. I didn't mean to lie about his name. I just want his name to by only for me, at least for right now.
After trying on almost everything in the mall we finally found an outfit for the both of us. Its not what I would usually wear but I figured I could give a try. As we were leaving I couldn't help but wonder if Nick would be at the club tonight. Someone like him though probably doesn't any problem getting dates. With his fancy suits and shoes, and probably car as well. Ugh, I just need to forget about him. We are from two different worlds. But as I thought it I knew I wasn't going to be able to.
