“ Lil, hurry up we’re going to be late!” My dad keeps yelling at me, but the wedding is only 15 minutes away and it starts in an hour. He just wants to rub elbows with the other guests who will be there. It’s not every day the heir of the famous Vascase Lycans gets married. They’ve invited every wolf from the surrounding packs. My family isn’t lowly by any means, but we aren’t top tier either. “Lilian Raen Shaw, get your rear in gear, and down here now. I want to get there at least 30 minutes early. Your mother and Sean are already down here, you are the only thing we are waiting on. Now, or we will leave without you!” he says. “Okay, okay, I’m coming, jeez, so mean daddy. I’m ready, let’s go hob nobbing with the hob nobs!” I say with an imperious voice as my brother lets out a snort. My father just rolls his eyes and my mother scolds me telling me to act my age. Fifteen minutes later we arrive and just like my father, everyone else thought it would be a good idea to arrive early and get in some good elbow rubbing. Sean my brother is already on the prowl, I’ve had the talk with him several times though. He knows it’s best not to get involved with anyone since he will be alpha when my father steps down. It will be hard on his Luna if he were to, she would have to face those he was involved with and it just wouldn’t be fair to her. It’s the same reason I never have. I’ve trained hard my entire life. I’m an alpha wolf in Luna wolf disguise. My mother and father didn’t want me to show my alpha side. So I have suppressed it as much as I could. My whole life has been about training to be the best mate possible, to be the best Luna possible. My wolf is too strong to be mated to less than an alpha, sadly. I’d rather not be, but anything less and I’m not sure how my wolf would react. I’ve trained as a warrior also, no one other than my father knows though, my mother would be mortified. I’ve trained since I was 5, so I’m pretty good if I do say so myself. Other than that, my entire life has pretty much been surrounded by nothing else. The place is beautiful. Light green vines and leaves are circling the garden pillars and chiffon drapes all of the dozens of arbors placed around the gardens. There are candles lit all around giving it a magical feel, like a fairy garden or something. It’s almost too ridiculous to be beautiful but it is and I’m almost ashamed to say I’m jealous, but not quite. I’m jealous as s**t! This is like walking around inside my freaking head and seeing my dream wedding. Damn it, now I’m going to have to redo all that s**t over again. This sucks! I turn and bump into someone out of no where. “Child, may I have your hand?”an older woman dressed in the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen asked me. I look and there’s no one else around, “ Um, I guess so” I respond. She takes my hand and closes her eyes, our hands begin to glow. Suddenly her eyes open and they are milky white. I try to pull my hand away as it begins to burn. “Hey, let go!” I shout at here. She looks up at me and in a low voice says “ A dark time lies ahead for you, but your path has been set. You will be his downfall, but could be his savior in the end. You will both be broken, but the ending has yet to be decided”. She finally let go and closed her eyes taking a deep breath, then began laughing. I wasn’t sure what the hell just happened, but I didn’t like that s**t one bit! “ WHAT IN THE HELL WAS THAT?” I yelled at her. She was still giggling, but got herself under control and looked up at me “Girl, I’m so happy you are here. I can’t tell you what the vision was about exactly, but I think you will find out soon enough. This day just got so much better! My grandson is in for a rude awakening!” “Lilian it’s time for the wedding to start.” My mother called.”They are saying the two are fated and make an amazing pair.” We made our way over to my dad and brother and took our seats. About ten minutes later the groom takes his place, good lord he’s fine, and the ceremony begins. The man leading the ceremony announces that they will perform the mating ceremony immediately following the wedding during the reception for those whose choose to stay, he then pronounces them man and wife and says he can now kiss his bride. They do make a beautiful couple. As they turn to one another to kiss, a slight breeze begins to blow towards me and its then it hits me. The overwhelming smell of bergamot, amber and cedar, my wolf serges to the forefront and screams in my mind “ MATE”. It’s a blow to my senses, it’s him, the man at the alter kissing another woman is MY MATE. I’m frozen to the spot and can’t breathe. I don’t know what to do. They lied about being mates and now they are married and I’ve just sat here and WATCHED them get married. What do I do with that? My wolf Lyla, who has been quiet all this time makes herself known, “We say f**k him, mate or no, we do not need a mate. We are strong enough, no more suppressing our true selves. We reject him, but we wait and make it hurt, in front of everyone!” So I waited. We make our way over to the reception in the ballrooms of this lavish estate. I try to keep my distance and stay downwind. I don’t want him to catch my scent before I can do what needs doing. My father and mother will disown me after this, but it’s ok, they will have no need of me after this anyway. All the training to be a Luna will be for not, because my Alpha has taken a chosen mate. I make my way to the line of people congratulating the couple and wait for my turn. Once again the place is beautiful, but I can’t bring myself to look around this time. My stomach churns at the thought of it. This was supposed to be my wedding. That’s why it was all so perfect to me. Why it all fit so perfectly. I wonder if it was his doing or hers, never mind, it doesn’t matter now. I was listening as I got closer and I kept hearing her blabber on and on, she was dumb as a block, who was this chick? At this point I’m on my fourth glass of wolf’s wine and I’m starting to get a little tipsy. I giggle a little at how stupid the s**t coming out of this girls mouth is. My father starts to notice and has that look on his face like he’s getting worried. “Don’t worry father, I have a special congratulatory message for the happy couple. It’ll be one for the books!” I say. He looks at me with a scowl and says “That’s what I’m worried about.” I just snicker and giggle. My father speaks first and then my mother, both speak of how wonderful it was for them to be able to find each other as fated mates are gifts that not to be taken for granted and make us stronger. They say all the right things and the couple smile and nod their heads like they agree whole heartedly. Then I notice Killian start to frown a little and clear his throat a few times and I smile. “Yes, Mother and father you are most correct! Fated mates are sacred! Which is why you should never lie about them and you should cherish the true nature of them. It is also why I could never have you as mine. Killian’s eye’s grew wide and round as he realized who I was to him. The girl beside him just looked confused, but I’m pretty sure that was her normal face. My dad stepped up and asked, “ Lil what are you saying? I looked at him then back to Killian, “I’m saying dad that I, Lilian Raen Shaw, “NO” Killian yells at me, “reject you Killian Brian Vascase, as my mate and, “NO PLEASE don’t, I can explain every thing”, “and future alpha.” The pain strikes fast and hard, straight through my heart and takes my breath away. Tears are streaming down my face as I turn and walk back out of his life as I had just walked into it.
