Chapter 1:
“Father, you can’t do this, listen to me, please!” Young Adrienne pleaded with tears running down her face. Her father took one look at her and nodded his head at the guards. The two guards stepped forward simultaneously and stood in front of him, awaiting his next command. “Please escort Miss Cole back to her room and see that she behaves herself until Alpha Ubel arrives.” my father spoke, his voice was calm, but vile. Alpha Ubel is the new leader of the Aryak pack and my soon-to-be husband, not by choice, but an arrangement made between our fathers. I have only spoken to him once at a gathering my father hosted at the pack house. He is the son of a powerful alpha. His father was loved and adored by everyone in his pack. That’s why his tragic death left everyone in distraught. Although Ubel’s father was beloved, his son is not favored among the people of the Aryak pack. It seemed that the idea of becoming the next Alpha has gone to Ubel’s head. Being the Alpha is a major responsibility, but to Ubel, it means he’s in a position to control and manipulate situations to fit his every need. Now that the rightful heir has taken his place in the pack as their new Alpha, that leaves the new Alpha with only one more problem, and that’s to find a Luna to rule by his side. Fortunately for him, that part of his problem was already solved by my father, and he was ready to have me delivered right to Alpha Ubel’s doorstep.
“Let me go!” I screamed while kicking viciously. My father’s eyes met mine for a moment, and I could see that I’m alone in this fight for my freedom. The guard’s grip tightened around my arms as I tried squirming to free myself. They pulled me through the wooden door, and another guard closed it behind us. I’m exhausted, and I feel defeated. Everything I knew and loved was being ripped away from me, piece by piece. I was lead up the staircase to my bedroom. “Open the door, I’ll hold her” the one guard said to the other. He opened the door and we stepped inside. “Now, you behave, Miss Cole. We will be guarding this door, so don’t do anything you’ll regret later” one of the guards said with a smirk. They closed the door, and I heard the key being turned in the lock. I stood there for a few moments in silence, a sickening silence. I can feel the knot in my stomach tightening. I forced my body forward, dragging my feet over to my bed and fell on my knees. Without a sound escaping my lips, tears roll down my face, one by one. I buried my head and face in my arms, sobbing quietly. I turned my face to my nightstand and stared at the familiar face in the picture. She had the same eyes as me, her golden hair hanging loosely over her shoulders, and she's smiling. “I need you now more than ever, mom.” I whimpered. Suddenly, an unusual feeling introduced itself from deep inside of me.
At that moment, all my feelings of despair and sorrow vanished. Like the waves of the ocean sweeping away foot prints in the sand, erasing every shred of their existence. Then I heard it, the voice…
Stand up and go
I shook my head in disbelief, clenching chunks of hair in my fists. For a split-second, I started doubting my own sanity, thinking I’m actually losing my mind, but then I heard the same voice again, but this time louder and demanding…
Stand up, and GO
An unfamiliar feeling woke inside of me, and I felt my inner wolf back down. It’s intense and overwhelming, nothing like I’ve ever felt before. Nobody could prepare me for what happened next, not even I knew that this side of me even existed. I felt superior and untouchable. These new feelings burned inside me like a raging fire. I knew what I was and who I was, but what I saw in the windows' reflection terrified me.
I stood in front of the window and stared at my reflection in terror. My skin lost its color, and my pinkish cheeks were now shades of grey. The veins in my neck looked like thick blue worms, pulsing with every beat my heart took. My brown eyes were gone and replaced by radiating red eyes. They looked like rubies. So, beautiful and mysterious, but I knew there was a wickedness lurking inside of them. That moment I heard the guards unlocking my bedroom door, I turned around slowly and greeted them with a sinister smile. I will never forget the pure terror I saw on their faces when our eyes finally met…
