-Aiden’s POV-
As Mary looked into my eyes, I could feel her fear melt away. I was overjoyed that she had found her brother. I hoped that it would push er to accept this pack as her own. I did not want her to belong to any other pack. I was surprised that shew was still on her feet. Normally, after a wolf’s first shift, they are weak ad tired. Most collapse and sleep for at least a day. “I shall take my leave now,” Carson interrupted my thoughts.
“Thank you, Carson, we shall meet tomorrow.”
Carson nodded and left the room, closing the door behind him. “Being here scares me,” Mary admitted under her breath. I was not sure if she was talking to herself or to me, so I c****d my head to the side. “Why are people so kind here?”
“This is the Blue River pack; we are a kind pack. We only fight if we need to. We keep the piece and uphold the laws of our kind. There would never be a reason for someone here to be unkind to you.” Before we could talk more, Mary closed her eyes and fell into me. The shift must have really taken it out of her. I picked her up and placed her onto the bed. She looked so peaceful and beautiful. I pulled up the chair from by the fireplace and sat y the ed for the night to make sure that she was safe.
As the sun rose and the rays entered the window, I opened a mindlink with all my warriors. Any news on the escapee?
After a few moments of silence, Richard responded. We found him. We have him cornered in the hospital.
Get him back in the dungeon so I can take care of things. I wanted him to know that he did not win and that Mary was no longer under his control.
You will be informed the moment he is. I cut the link and looked over at Mary.
To my surprise she is looking back at me. There was no smile on her face but no fear either. “Good morning little wolf.”
She smiled at me. “I have questions.”
“I bet you do.” I wanted her to be as comfortable as possible here.
“Why didn’t you kill me with all the others?” A tear fell from her eye as she asked. “There was no reason I should have been spared.”
I got confused. why would she think that anyone would want her dead? “There was no reason to destroy the innocent.” I c****d my head to the side. “You are not meant to die.”
“I feel so many things now. Why?” Her beautiful eyes were filled with pain and confusion.
“Your wolf is confused and trying to make sense of all of this. If you decide to join the pack, she will calm down. If you decide not to, she will look for answers elsewhere.” I did not want to hide anything from her.
“Carson chose to stay. Why?” She sat up but held the blanket on her.
I stood from the chair and faced her. I reached out and took her free hand. “Carson was given the same choice as you have been. I gave him the 24 hours just the same of you. He spent that time with the wolf who raised him talking and weighing all his options. At the end of his 24 hours, I asked him again. He told me that this pack was his family and there was no other place he belonged.” I smiled at her. “The only time his opinion of that changed was the moment he saw you.”
“What do you mean?” she c****d her head and smirked.
“He thought you were lost forever. When he saw you alive, his entire world crashed. You have o idea the guilt ad the love he is feeling right now.”
“May I talk to him?” she looked down. “After I get some clothes, that is.”
I smiled at her. She had np idea that I had one of my pack members go shopping for her and there were bags waiting out side of the door. I let go of her hand and went to the door, opened it and picked up the bags. I closed the door and turned around. “You have all you should need right here.” I placed the bags on the end of the bed. “I’ll leave you to it and send Carson here in about 30 minutes.” She smiled at me and I left the room.
I walked down the hallways and to the stairs. I needed to get to my office to handle the things that have happened in the last day. When I gave the orders to attack Redwood, I was under the impression that they were involved in mistreatment of their she-wolves, but I never thought that they were keeping a s*x slave. It made me sick. This poor girl was so traumatized by her treatment that I was not sure I could get her back to a normal life. I never imagined that things would get this complicated.
As I entered my office, I could feel someone trying to link with me. I opened the link, it was Andrew. Sir, I have intel on another pack’s activities.
Andrew, unless it is life or death, all judicial activity is suspended until further notice. I was not usually the one to put things on him, but the situation with Mary took priority at this moment. Having Mark lose in my territory was not only a threat to her, but to the entire pack. I could not take that lightly, not with the allegation and rumors about his alpha practices.
Yes Alpha. Andrew closed the link and I sat at my desk.
There was a knock at the door as soon as I leaned my head into my hands. “Enter.”
Carson walked into the room and bowed his head in respect to me. He had been a loyal warrior since the say he accepted the pack. “Aiden, may I talk to you about Mary?”
“Of course.” I gestured for him to take a seat in the chair in front of my desk. He sat and took a deep breath. “What’s on your mind?”
“Has she been given the same chance as I was to join the pack?” I could see the love and concern in his eyes. I noticed that he had the same eyes as his sister, only a little darker and not as sparkly.
“I have extended an invitation to the pack, yes. She is confused and scared. She is expecting you in about 20 minutes.”
“It has been so long that I fear she won’t accept me and she’ll hate me for leaving her behind. I don’t want her to hate me.” he looked at his hands. For the first time since he got his wolf, I could see him visibly vulnerable. “I know it’s my fault that she suffered all these years and I want to make up for it any way I can.”
I stood up and walked over to him. I placed my hand on his shoulder. “Carson, none of that was your fault. You were but a pup when it happened. I doubt she blames you at all. Just relax and be there for her now.” He looked up at me and nodded. I sat back down as we left my office. “Nowt to deal with Mark and his shit.”
