Maddy's POV The doctor's words were like a quiet command. Caroline's face was etched with a fresh wave of anxiety that made me want to reach out and hug her. She started to walk out of the visitor waiting room, her legs a little shaky, and Mr Harrison held onto her, as if steadying her along the way. I noticed that my hand was still entwined with Nate's. It felt comfortable that way, and a part of me did not want to let go of him at all. I felt my heart pounding in my chest. I sneaked a look at him, and he glanced back at me; a small smile played on his lips. Gosh, he was so handsome. I hesitated for a fleeting moment, suddenly feeling like an intruder, but then Nate squeezed my hand, gesturing for me to follow —a silent invitation to join them. My heart gave a little skip.
