Lucia's condition improved quickly. A new set of rules were put in place to ensure that she remained right indoors at all times.
The responsibility for what happened that made her go to hospital was put squarely at the doorstep of Brian who was supposed to put an eye on her to know when and where she went.
He was blamed for not putting an eye on her enough to warrant her leaving the house without his knowledge.
She soon recovered fully, regaining herself but she still remained sad day after day. The fact is that she was not enjoying the mate bond and there was no pretence about it.
Meanwhile, her birthday was just a few days away and preparations were in top gear. The Alpha and his Luna especially had planned to make it a grand event.
The Luna, Irene Philips, had decided to play a very important role in her daughter in-law's birthday party. The fact that she would be announced that same day as the future Luna of the Pack would also make that day more memorable. So, for her, nothing would be left to chance.
So, after secretly getting Lucia's clothes and shoes sizes, she had gone ahead to do the shopping for her even without letting her know about it. That was a very smart way of giving her a surprise package.
It was a very excited Luna Irene who brought the clothes over to Brian's apartment for her daughter in-law to see and accept.
The clothes were good, no doubt. Very elegant and exactly her size. She looked through the stack of clothes one by one and gave the Luna the impression that she loved them. But deep down in her heart, she had made up her mind that she didn't have need for those clothes. She had decided she wouldn't wear any of them. There was no need for the Luna to go purchase clothes for her when she wouldn't even be present at her own birthday party.
Yes, she had planned to leave Brian's residence. Not only his residence, but the pack as a whole. She had decided she wouldnt take it anymore. At 19, she is of age and would go out and chart a new course for herself outside of the Pack. Whether right or wrong, she had made up her mind already.
Luckily enough for her, her acceptance letter for college had arrived, brought to her by Brian himself. That will give her a perfect excuse to leave the Pack, at least for the duration of her course. For Brian, ít should be good riddance because he never really loved or accepted her. A a matter of fact, she was like a pain on his neck and he would be glad if she left for college.
She had already decided she would tell no one about her decision, not even her parents. But on second thought, she decided she would confide in them before the move, out of respect for them.
She knew quite well they wouldn't be happy with her proposed move, but she would find a way to convince them. She will have to explain to them everything she has been going through over the couple of months she's been with Brian.
So, as soon as Brian was out of earshot one afternoon, she fished out her phone and called her parents. As expected, they didn't like the news at first. But after she had explained everything and they saw the magnitude of what she was facing, they wished her the best of luck. Her college acceptance also helped her to douse whatever misgivings they had about her proposed plan.
So, everything was now set for her to execute her plan.
She took another look at the pile of clothes bought for her by Luna Irene. She was filled with nothing but disgust. Especially when she fixed her gaze on the star attraction, the one which was supposed to be the best among the lot. It was supposed to be the one she would put on that special day. It was elegant, well decorated but dark in color. It did nothing but remind her of the darkness that had pervaded the relationship between her and Brian in the last couple of months.
A part of her wanted to pack out all those clothes and incinerate them, but another part advised her to leave them hanging there on the shelf. After all, Brian's new girl might need them. But for her, she has no need for them.
It was now 24 hours to her birthday. Brian had gone to the pack house to do one or two things, leaving Lucia alone in the house. It was the opportunity she was waiting for.
She picked her already packed briefcase, entered her car and zoomed out towards the pack community main gate.
