About ten minutes later, she got to the main gate, applied the brakes and brought the car to a stop.
She blared the horn once, signifying to the wolf in the cubicle to come open the gate for her. He stood up, yawned and came out of the gate house. After looking at the car for a moment, he waved his hands and shook his head without opening the gate.
Lucia didn't understand his gestures and she really had to know what he meant.
"Would you open the gate so I can get out of here?" she said, starting to lose her patience.
The lone guard came close to the car, peered in through the front passenger side glass and said, "the instruction I have is not to allow you to leave the Pack community."
Hmmm, so someone had seen her and had mindlinked Brian, who had immediately contacted the guard at the gate to stop her from leaving?
That's interesting. No one had seen her or sympathized with her during the months of her travails in the hands of Brian but they chose to see her when she decided she's had enough and should leave.
Whoever it was that squealed on her had not been considerate to her plight. It wasn't as if she's so much worried about it, anyway, because as far as she's concerned, nothing would change. She had made up her mind and that's it.
As she pondered on how best to react to the situation, she heard the sound of a car which suddenly screeched to a halt.
Brian was breathing heavily as he came down from the car. He appeared very restless.
"I'm the one who gave the order to stop you from leaving the Pack community. Where do you think you are going?"
Lucia looked at him and chuckled. "Brian, I'm leaving. I've had enough of the so called mate bond between us."
"But, Lucia, you never told me you were leaving. No indication whatsoever that you would even be going to leave the house. Remember, you were told by the Alpha to always inform me whenever you are leaving the house?"
"That was in the past. Events have since overtaken all of that. The new reality for you now is that I've got tired of living with you and I'm going away. I'm going away to chart a new course for myself. Staying with you for all of those months was a sheer waste of time. You should be happy that I'm leaving. You'll simply get yourself another girl, won't you?"
Brian would have none of that. There's no way he will let her leave.
"Seriously, how does it sound to you? Leaving when it's just a few hours away before you are announced as the future Luna of the pack? An occasion which also doubles as your birthday? I hope you know what you are doing?"
"Perfectly, Brian. I think you should get used to the reality of living without me as from now henceforth. You had that opportunity and you blew it. I am sorry to announce to you that it is all over."
"You can't do this to me. You certainly can't do this to the Alpha, the Luna and others who have invested time and money to prepare for your birthday party. Be reminded that your birthday comes up in a few hours time."
"It doesn't matter to me anymore. I don't care what anyone has done on my behalf. My mind is already made up. You never loved me and I'm convinced you never will. I've been telling you to reject me since but you refused. I will now go ahead and do it on my own. I will reject you."
It was then Brian knew she was dead serious about it all.
Brian made an attempt to stop her but it was to no avail.
"I Lucia Gilbert hereby reject you, Brian Philips as my mate. From now henceforth, I renounce all ties that hitherto existed between us."
Those words hit him like a hurricane. And he made a last but feeble attempt to fight it.
"You know definitely I won't accept this," he said, his eyes filled with anger.
"You have to accept it," she said. "You have no option. The way you choose to live your life after today is left entirely to you. It doesn't bother me whether you accept it or not. I have done it."
Why Brian is refusing to let her go now is something that she can't really understand. Neither of them really wanted this mate bond thing from the onset. So why is he bitter about the fact that she is leaving?
Anyway, for Lucia, his feelings would not change anything.
Brian took a deep sigh and spoke. "Well, if that's how you want it, then it's fine," he said with regret. "It's obvious there's nothing I can do about it. I, Brian Philips, the future Alpha of the Silver Creek Pack, hereby accept your rejection."
With that, Lucia Gilbert and Brian Philips freed each other from the forced mate bond that they found themselves in.
Consequently, Lucia entered into her car and zoomed off.
