The Rich Girl next door.
“Mum, what is the meaning of the name of this book?”, Jane asked her mother. “Which book?” her mother replied. Jane had found one of her aunt’s adult books where she kept.
“Jane, (She called out looking at her 6 year-old daughter with a little shock) where did you get this book from?”.Jane knew that at that point, she was already in for trouble so she kept quiet.
Sweetheart, this is not for your age. Go and keep it back where you saw it. I’ve told your aunt to be careful with the way she keeps her things.
Here is the Elzar family, a wealthy family of a man, his wife with two kids (Jane and Aaron). Jane was the first child and was just two years ahead of Aaron in age. The two kids grew up in affluence as life was given to them on a platter of gold. Their parents kept them away from the truth of the real world as much as they can thinking that this would protect them.
The two kids on the other side were nothing less than angels. They attended high quality schools and were doing great academically. It was a private school of course and had so less a number of students who in turn had very rich parents.
The family lived along the outskirts of Virginya ( A large town with relatively developed facilities). It was town with a large population of people. The people of Virginya knew the Elzar family much well but had little or no interaction with them.
This was not out of jealousy or grudge. This was because Mr and Mrs. George Elzar lived a life in which friends did not matter. They believed that it’ll lead to their downfall as they were the richest in the town and would definitely have so many person on their neck wanting to acquire their wealth.
It was certainly a means of survival but it also had its ups and downs. Jane and Aaron knew no kid at all in their neighbourhood. They moved to school in flashy tinted cars and returned home in the same. They had no interaction what so ever with what happens outside their compound unless the ones they get on their apple devices.
The kids living in Virginya would always come together and wonder exactly what was going on inside that compound and after minutes to hours of discussion, they ‘ll all head home wishing that they had parents who were very rich.
All but Jonas Shwed. Jonas was a son born into the Shwed family. This was a middle class family living very close to the Elzar family compound. Their problem was that they were so many in the family and the finances was not enough to guarantee a stress-life, but they managed and endured.
Jonas was one of the kids who gather to spend time in which the Elzar family discussion comes in. The only difference between these other kids and Jonas was that he had actually seen Jane and Aaron unlike others.
It did not actually happen on purpose. It was a co-incidental event. Jonas was on his way back home from school (trekking as usual) when he stopped at a road-side shop to buy a particular candy which was being sold only at that shop.
Jane’s parents had warned her driver about stopping at that shop. She instructed him to never listen to Jane, rather get them home, come back to purchase it and bring it to them at home.
Somehow, the driver was not focused when Jane and Aaron asked him to stop at that particular shop. Immediately he did, Jane who was by the car window side quickly used the controls to lower the glass in order to see which of the candies she would like to eat.
That was the same time when Jonas was buying the same candy. He looked behind, he saw a black car which looked like the one he usually see move pass their front yard. He didn’t care to observe so much because he had not seen the members of the Elzar family before, so definitely,his mind would not think of it.
After the glass went down, he saw Jane clearly out of the moment but did not quite see Aaron. Everything went as normal and they both bought candies and went their separate parts. Nothing seemed to have changed at all as Jane’s mother did not find out and the driver himself did not even realize his mistakes.
Everything was normal, yes, normal until 7:14am, February 19th, the saw that same car being driven out of the huge Elzar family compound. At first, it was just a flashy car ( the Elzar family was rich so they could afford it).
This was his thought till he saw a little scratch by the side of the car ( The same side which Jane opened the window ). It was at that point that he realized that he had seen the children of the Elzar family.
Nobody knew what Mr. Elzar George did for a living, not even his kids. This would eventually hunt them because the source of their wealth was suspected to be illegal or to the demerit of those in the town.
Jonas, Aaron and Jane all grew up without another interaction apart from that which happened along the road. The tale of how a family became richer while another continued with their struggles was the fate of the Elzar and Shwed family. Somehow, whenever the name Elzar gets mentioned in the presence of Mr. Andrew Shwed, he gets annoyed and cautioned them not to.
Jonas saw this as a reaction of envy as the two families were the exact opposite financially but he did not see it as a serious matter which needed investigation. They did manage to survive after all but Jonas lost his youngest sister, Anna due to severe illness.
