‘I was in trouble… in a huge trouble.’
I didn’t really know why I was here and why I turned out to be the bride of someone else’s wedding. I should be in the other ballroom and making a scene at Sev and Chloe's engagement party.
‘Whoever Katniss is, she must come now or I will be stuck in here!’
And whoever this domineering guy who brought me here, he would be damn for not hearing me out.
I should be acting up right now and trying my very best to explain to them I was a different person. But when I faced the weak old man in a wheelchair, my heart went out for him.
He was pale and seemed to be really sick. I couldn’t break the news to them that the bride hadn’t arrived yet. It seemed the old man was excited and the guy was kind of impatient. And the bride was pretty late already. I didn’t want the old man to freak out or overthink or something. I didn't have the heart to bring him bad news. I suddenly felt liable.
And I couldn’t understand myself. I mean…
‘I didn't even know them to worry about the old man's health.’
One thing that confused me was why did they mistook me for the bride? Did I really look like that woman? My twin brother Kurt and I are fraternal twins. That means we don’t look exactly alike. Though you can see the resemblance.
But I was thrilled to see this Katniss whoever-she-was.
‘I wanted to see it for myself.’
I decided to give in and play being the bride. Sure, Katniss would come. I would just step out once she came. I didn’t think she would be mad. I’ve been doing her a favor anyway. Once she was here, I would quickly transfer to the other ballroom and do my original plan.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the wedding will start now…”
I drew a heavy breath when I heard the host’s announcement.
The gorgeous man who brought me here, who happened to be the groom, was already waiting for me at the other end of the aisle. I frowned when I realized there was not much in the entourage. It was just the weak old man, the groom, the ring bearer and flower girl, and of course me—the fake bride.
I found it odd.
‘Was the entourage supposed to be like this? They seemed to be wealthy, I don’t think they were into cost-cutting.’
The moment I reached the improvised altar and the man reached for my hand, I had this urge to ask him about it. But I decided to keep it to myself. Whatever their deal was, it was none of my business. I was just a substitute bride anyway.
The wedding ceremony was very quick. It seemed to me that the officiating priest hurried the ceremony. And again, of course it was not my wedding so I decided not to ask my confusion away.
‘Where the heck was the bride?! The ceremony was almost finished and she wasn’t here yet!’
“And now, you may kiss the bride…”
The announcement rang against my ears. My eyes widened when the handsome guy pulled me from my waist and leaned me towards his impossible hard body.
‘He smelled incredibly good…’
The warmth quickly snaked around me, down to my belly.
‘Oh my God!’
I leaned my hands against his wide warm chest, and tried hard to put some distance between our bodies. I could see his lopsided grin. And if only we were in a different circumstance, I would find his grin really charming.
But we were not. And this was really awkward. I could not let just some random guy kiss me!
‘Gosh! Work, you, stupid brain!’
I suddenly remembered his words just a while ago.
‘We have an agreement. I can ruin your life and crush you into pieces if you ever dare ruin this very night.’
Right! That was it!
This wedding was just an agreement between this guy and Katniss. And whatever was the reason on how he made Katniss agree, it was fine to refuse being kissed. It wasn’t a real wedding in the true sense of the word.
“Is the kiss even necessary?” I whispered to him.
His eyebrow arched. “Of course. It’s to seal the deal.”
The deal…
I felt his one hand cupped the back of my head and his face was lowering to mine.
I panicked.
“Still, you can’t kiss me. I am not your real bride.” I stubbornly and quickly declined.
“Jeez! Nonsense! Drop the act. You love kissing me anyway.”
And it was too late, his lips landed on mine. I was startled and didn’t quickly realize that he would truly do it. That he’d really going to kiss me, despite my reasoning.
But the, the kiss was… fiery.
I involuntarily opened my mouth and invited him to deepen the kiss. His lips were possessive and seemed to claim what he thought was his. A tingling sensation hurriedly curled up to my body, down to my spine. I could feel a swirling sweet sensation in my tummy.
‘His kiss was...’
It was not my first time being kissed. Sev and I shared a lot of kisses. I’d even let him do the necking and touching. But none of this kind of sensation had Sev ever made me feel. It was… so warm… so soft and very electrifying.
‘Oh, damn! I want more…’
I never even realized when he left my lips. I just noticed that the kiss had already ended when I felt his thumb, wiping the side of my lips. I even saw him frowning his forehead. Confused.
But the confusion didn’t last long. A wide grin ripped in his thin lips before lowering on my ears.
“And I guess I was right. You always love my kisses.”
I had a lot in my head that I want to argue about, but the old man in the wheelchair already approached us and congratulated us.
‘I need to go now. I can’t stay here any longer…’
Everybody started greeting us after the ceremony. The groom was already busy but surprisingly, he never forgot to hold me by my waist. He seemed he didn’t want to give me a chance to escape.
My attention always flew at the front door. I was busy thinking of finding a way on how to leave this place, when Grandpa suddenly approached us.
“I have never seen you this good together. I was right. You really are meant to be together.” Grandpa said, smiling so brightly.
I could tell the old man was really happy to see his grandson got married. I just smiled and didn’t give any comments. It was better to zip my lips because I didn’t know what I should tell him.
My eyes landed at the entrance once again, wishing for the real bride to show up. But the door was still pinned close.
“Grandpa, you should enjoy this party with our guests and friends. My wife and I have to go already.”
“What?!”
