Chapter2

Theo I groaned frustratingly. I was getting a little impatient waiting for Katniss. She said she was on her way and it had been more than thirty minutes since her last response. Her phone was out of coverage when I tried to call her again. ‘Oh, damn it, Katniss! You better be here or I will strangle your neck!’ I had this feeling that Katniss changed her mind at the very last minute. She was the kind of person who decided quickly and later on, would turn her back from the agreement. Yeah, that was how unprofessional my soon-to-be wife was. But what could I do? My dying grandfather wanted me to marry her. I couldn’t say no because it would also mean, I was going to lose everything that I worked hard for years. ‘And… I couldn’t say no to the only family I had.’ “Theo, where is Katniss? She’s running late already,” Grandpa inquired, sitting in his wheelchair. Behind him was his personal nurse, tailing him around. Grandpa must have been tired of waiting for Katniss. I sighed, “She’s on her way, Grandpa.” I gave him a reassuring smile. I may not entirely like Katniss, she was a cunning, opportunist b***h. The only thing I liked about her was that she was always ready to get laid. But this wedding could not be cancelled anymore. ‘I’ll surely punish you later, Katniss!’ We agreed to be married and file a divorce after three years. That was also the remaining time left to my terminally ill grandfather. Yes, this wedding was to gratify my old man. I decided to give him the joy that he wanted. And it seemed this woman was going to ruin it. As expected, Katniss was very stubborn and hard to read. I’ve known her for years, yet, I still have a hard time guessing what was running inside her head. “Grandpa, I think I better wait her in the lobby. Please excuse me,” I left the ballroom to check if Katniss had already come. I couldn’t just sit and wait for my men to send me updates. I was getting impatient already. While walking in the hotel’s corridor, I saw the familiar figure, looking at every door number. I released a hard breath. Good thing she didn’t decide to run away from our deal. I was about to call her attention when I noticed she stopped at the next door. I raised my eyebrow. That was not the room I told her to come to. ‘Did she forget the room number?’ My eyebrows formed a straight line when I noticed what she was wearing. Red. She was wearing a red gown at our wedding?’ “This crazy, crazy woman! Was it her way to annoy me?” When I realized she was about to enter the ballroom, I quickly approached her and grabbed her wrist. “What the heck are you wearing? It’s your wedding day and not just an ordinary party!” I growled at her. I couldn’t hold my temper. Grandpa was inside the ballroom, certainly to witness our wedding. If he saw Katniss wearing a red gown, he would surely be mad and confused. What kind of bride would wear red in the wedding ceremony? Unless, the bride was rebelling. I gritted my teeth. She couldn’t back out. No matter what she wore on this occasion, the wedding would still proceed. “What? Are you going to stare at me all night? We’re late for our appointment, already.” I snapped upon realizing that her jaw dropped open while staring at me. She must be surprised I was waiting outside. Or she must be thinking I was out to greet her. Nah! “H-Huh? Are you talking to me?” I frowned at her outburst. She looked confused. Or must be one of her tricky acts. She was good at that anyway. And right now, her facial expression was convincing. I smirked. Her acting had improved. That must be the result of always putting on an act. “Who else?” I said lazily. If she thinks she can fool me, she must think again. “It’s our wedding and you can’t back out, anymore. We had a deal and don’t try any tricks on me. It won’t work.” I dangerously warned her. I pulled her towards the ballroom that was reserved for our wedding ceremony. “Hey! Wait up! What are you doing?!” Katniss yelled, trying to break free. My face turned grim and gave her a quick glance. “Shut up!” “What?! How dare you hissed at me? Who are you anyway?” I clenched my jaw in irritation. “Stop playing games with me, Katniss. Stop it while I am being nice to you.” She seemed stunned for a second but I didn't give a damn. I kept dragging her towards the next door. “What do you call me? Katniss?” I rolled my eyes. I couldn’t help but frown. This was one of her dirty tricks. She had done this many times and I fell for her acting. But not this time. Not today. Not now that every important person in my circle was going to witness my wedding. “Don’t mess with me, Katniss. I’m warning you. We have an agreement. I can ruin your life and crush you into pieces if you ever dare ruin this very night. And you know me better. Don’t try to push me to the edge.” Katniss seemed to be threatened. She was stunned and rendered speechless. ‘Good, that’s good Katniss,’ She must have gotten into senses. Katniss knew what I could do. And when I say something, I swear I would do it without a second thought. I gazed intently at her. It was just now that I appreciated her gown suited her. She looked stunning in red. And she was indeed very curvy. I already knew she had a great body but tonight, I just realized some parts were perfectly improved. I couldn’t help but swallow the invisible lump in my throat. I never find her as alluring as this. I quickly rendered myself. ‘This was not the right time to appreciate her body, when it’s obvious that she had a plan of sabotaging this night,’ And her gown, it was still not appropriate for a wedding ceremony. “I’ll spare you wearing this gown. But you must behave properly when we face Grandpa. You know he was terminally ill. Have mercy with the old man. Don’t ever cause any problem. You know what I’m going to do with you if something bad happened to Grandpa.” I opened the door to the ballroom while Katniss was trying to break free from my tight grasp. “Hold a sec. I’m not—” “There you go. What took you so long?” Grandpa’s face quickly lit up right after seeing us. “And Katniss, what are you wearing? You’re not supposed to wear red! Where is your wedding gown?” Katniss turned to me. She seemed confused and was asking for help. I shrugged and coaxed my head, daring her to speak. “Well, I’m sorry but I’m not Kat—” “She meant she can’t wear the wedding gown.” I quickly cut her off. I knew it. She was going to do this. I gave her a warning glare. Katniss pulled a face. “Could you please give me a sec? I want a word with you.” Katniss stubbornly said, glancing towards my direction. “Is there a problem?” Grandpa cuts in. “No, there’s not.” “Yes, there is.” We echoed. And looked at each other. I gave her a warning look and she signaled at me. I ignored her and turned to grandpa. “It’s about her wedding dress. Something happened.” I nonchalantly explained. “You don’t understand!” Katniss hissed silently, looking around. The crowd’s attention was all focused on us. The officiating priest’s assistant approached us. “Excuse me, young master. Father Michael wants to confirm if we’re going to start the ceremony.” “Oh… well, yes. Tell Father Michael we will start in a few minutes." I quickly answered. "But–" "The wedding gown isn’t a big deal. You still look stunning in red, Katniss. Don’t worry.” Grandpa smiled and took Katniss’ hand. The old man squeezed her hand gently and reassuringly. And I was stunned when I realized Katniss didn’t flinch or give a violent reaction. It was a first. She used to have negative remarks when things didn’t work her way. And most of the time, Katniss acted like a spoiled brat. I honestly anticipated her to yell and snarl. But this time, she just worriedly smiled at grandpa and glanced at me… again, her eyes seemed to ask for help. “Let’s start the ceremony. Father Michael has an appointment after this.”
