Dear Diary: Mate Search

Dear Diary: I read somewhere that creating a journal helps when you feel anxious so here I go. Today is my 18th Birthday. Woo hoo! Today is the day I am suppose to find my mate. I cannot sleep and I have to be at school in 3 hours. I’m just so nervous he won’t be what I am expecting or worse...what he is expecting. Maybe he won’t think I am pretty enough or maybe he will reject me. I have waited a long time for today and now I almost feel like I do not want it to even happen. I talked to my best friend Fraya about it. She turned 18 three months ago and found her mate instantly and they are “in love”. She got the fairy tale and always knew she would. She was never nervous about this. What a jerk. I am losing my mind. But wish me luck, I have to go get ready for school and I guess, find my mate. XO, Cleary ............................ Cleary looked at herself in the mirror and said to her wolf Sage, it’s now or never. Cleary was wearing a sky blue gingham dress that came to her knees. Her dark black hair was shoulder length and parted down the middle with her front pieces pulled back into a fishtail braid. Cleary priced herself on her amazing style and always felt confident. Today she knew she looked good but still could not shake the feeling of anxiousness about finding her mate. Cleary grabbed her leopard print backpack and grabbed her car keys. “See ya Mom and Dad” as she ran out of the house and hopped into her vintage baby blue WV Bug. Her Mom and Dad pokes their heads through the passenger side window.. “Have a great day bum..and Happy Birthday” her Mom said. “Honey, always remember WHAT WOULD DADDY SAY!” her Dad said sternly and she knew what he meant. Cleary’s Dad was Alpha of the Harvest Moon Pack And obviously her Mom was obviously Luna. Cleary has an older brother, Harrison, but he was at a Pack training somewhere. He was set to take the spot of Alpha soon so Cleary didn’t see much of him lately. Cleary gave her parents quick smile and pulled out of the driveway. She turned on some Taylor Swift as she drove to school. “OUR SONG IS THE SLAMING SCREEN DOOR SNEAKING OUT LATE TAPPING ON YOUR WINDOW...” Cleary sang all the way to school. She loved singing in the car and blasting music. It was her favorite thing. Cleary took a deep breath as she hopped out of the car and walked into school. By her locker was her best friend, Fraya, Fraya’s mate , Josh, and Vada, Cleary’s cousin. Cleary got to her locker and noticed they fully decorated her locker with streamers and signs to celebrate her 18th Birthday. She was so lucky to have friends like them. Fraya could not shake the anxious feeling she had despite it being her birthday and everyone being so amazingly nice. No one mentioned the mate thing to her because they all knew she was a wreck over it. That made things a little better. The first 3 periods of school were over, Cleary didn’t find her mate in that amount of time. She didn’t expect to either but that didn’t take away her disappointment. Lunch time quickly approached and Cleary was starving. “Cleary, grab your lunch and come sit with us in the back, we have a surprise for you!” Fraya said. “I will be over in a minute” said Cleary who was not amused. She hated surprises. Cleary grabbed her lunch and headed to the table. Her friends all sat there with huge grins on their faces. “What’s up guys?” Cleary said with a smirk. “Come sit” Fraya said as she patted the seat next to her. Cleary knew she was up to something. “Go ahead Josh” Vada whispered to Josh. “EVERYONE! Can I have your attention” Josh announced to the whole cafeteria. “Today is our beloved Cleary’s 18th Birthday so let’s all sing her HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” The whole cafeteria began singing the HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG as Cleary sat there completely stunned and slightly embarrassed. She was use to being in the spotlight since her Father was the Alpha of their pack but still, something about today was just hard. When everyone got done singing Cleary went to blow out her candles that were in front of her that her classmates presented to her during their Birthday serenade. Just as she blew them out Cleary began to sense someone staring at her but she shook it off and blew out her candles. Obviously someone was looking at her, the whole school was. But it felt like more than that. Lunch went back to normal and her and her fiends made small talk. Cleary went to throw out her lunch when she was hot with the sudden aroma of Fresh Coffee and Caramel. MATE Cleary’s wolf Sage said. Cleary searched the cafeteria when she noticed a boy built like a Hemsworth brother, with Chestnut Brown hair and ocean blue eyes walking her way. His eyes were locked on her. He was walking fast towards her. He smelled amazing. Cleary’s nervousness immediately went away. Her mate was walking her way, she quickly straightened up and patted down her dress. He came within inches of her stilling intense eye contact. “MATE” he said softly as he dipped her and kissed her like no one has done before. Clearly returned his kiss. They kissed for what felt like five minutes in front of the whole cafeteria and Cleary did not care. As he broke the kissed her looked at her intently and walked away. He walked away Sage yelled. Follow him. Get him back her. Make him OURS. Cleary felt dazed. What was that? And who is he? She thought. She felt stunned and slightly rejected. All the nervousness she felt came rushing back.
