"Bye Ida! I'll see you later!"
"IDA, BYE IDA! IDA BYE!"
"IDAAAAA!"
"Shut up guys!"
Rolling my eyes at my friends making a massive scene out the front of the bus loop waiting for their bus to come and grab them, I begin the short walk home thanks to me missing my bus with my music blaring loudly and imagination taking me to where I think the festival will be.
With the music being the song I'll most likely not be seeing or hearing at the festival, I enjoy it anyway and find the walk home a lot shorter due to all of the day dreaming I'm doing right now.
I will admit Liam played a few parts in there but not enough to stop the walk, my cheeks heating a little when I replay some of the scenes and instantly wipe it from my head when I spot my house approaching.
Discovering only Mum's car in the driveway, I only suspect Dad's still at work and Mum's getting ready to go back for the night shift as well.
Announcing I'm home in a way that has Mum laughing and telling me her whereabouts, I head straight for the kitchen before giving her a hug and kiss while asking how her day was.
"It wasn't too bad; I'm more excited for my day off tomorrow to be honest. But enough about me how was your day sweetheart? You seem to be in a really good mood, has this Liam character done anything to-"
"How the f**k do you know about Liam?" I demand with squinted eyes though ignore the fact my Mum's practically laughing in my face instead of yelling at me for dropping the F bomb.
"These walls are quite thin remember? Besides, I hope this Liam guy isn't going to try anything on this little trip your friends have planned for you. Because I can smell a wingman from a mile away and you have eight of them." she grins as my cheeks heat up once again for the millionth time today.
I can't go on like this.
"Alright Mum, think what you want. I'm simply going there to enjoy the bands and band merch they have to offer. If Liam wants to try something then that's on him, I'm not going out of my way to make the first move because that's not how I roll." I state simply but know for a fact if he even breathed on me in a way that stated s*x I'm going for it.
"Mmkay Ida, but I'm just saying. I was your age once, don't forget that." she lightly warns yet her grin's still evident.
"Okay Mum, that was over a hundred years ago-"
"HEY!"
Laughter fills the kitchen though it's not for long when the task of asking my parents if it's okay to stay out the night before we head off to the festival, comes springing to mind but I'm smart enough to keep the smile on my face so she doesn't think something's up.
"I forgot Mum, there's something I wanted to tell you as well." I state casually yet I can see her becoming a little weary but smile still intact.
"What is it honey?" she asks while folding her arms and leaning against the kitchen bench, my eyes glimpsing at the half-made sandwich happily waiting to be attended to, behind her.
"My friends and I were talking today and wonder if it would be okay if I were to stay at-" only Dad coming through the front door cuts me off and I'm a little annoyed considering I now have to build up the courage all over again.
"Hey babe, hey Ida how was your day, both of you?" he asks as he dumps his work bag on the bench and unpacks his half-eaten lunch along with a few cans of alcohol.
"Good."
"Not bad, have to go back soon." both Mum and I say in unison though dad can sense that something is up.
"Did I interrupt something?" he frowns then slowly stops his movements in taking his cans to the fridge.
"No, Ida was going to actually ask me something, go ahead honey." Mum beams while Dad commences on keeping his cans cold and cracking another one once he's done.
Taking a seat in the breakfast chair after making my way around and out of the kitchen, Mum and Dad both lean against the bench opposite me and wait for what I have to say with small smiles.
"My friends and I were wondering if I could stay at one of their houses the night before we go to the festival. We will let you know tomorrow exactly whose house we will be staying at but yeah, we thought it would be smarter in staying at one house all together considering it saves having to drive around and pick us all up in the morning." I practically blurt and eventually take a large intake of air I didn't know I needed, the both looking a little stunned as they process my flurry of words but not long their brains start to tick and I wonder if my luck has ran out.
"I get that, sure but let me know first thing tomorrow whose house you are going to." Dad answers firstly, Mum silent as she stares at dad as if she too is shocked by his decision.
"Really?" we both say at the same time, my eyes stealing a quick glimpse at her and finding her doing the same thing.
"Yeah, it saves us having to wake up early in the morning. Consider it as an early birthday present along with these." he states nonchalantly while throwing a package on the bench and watching as it skids towards me.
Slamming my hand on it so it doesn't fly off, I tear it open when I know for a fact that it's the new stretchers I ordered in and admire the glow in the dark liquid through the thick clear plastic.
"This is awesome, thanks Dad." I grin until getting out of my chair and coming back into the kitchen to give him a hug as well as Mum so she doesn't feel left out.
"Well seeing as how we are giving out presents early, I thought I might as well give you this now." she informs me and disappears out of the kitchen to come back with a card.
"I know we gave you your gifts already but I forgot the card and seeing as how you are going out for three days, you will need this where you're going." she announces on her way back in then hands the enveloped card to me.
Peeling the purple envelope open I pull out the cute card with the numbers eighteen written in large sparkly figures, seconds later opening it a little confused as to how a card will help me, yet as soon as I open it all of the way money comes floating to the ground and I'm gawking at the amount.
"It should be enough to get you what you want." she grins when I still can't believe the figures adding up in my brain whilst I start picking it up.
"You don't say, there's almost f-"
"I know, now go and tell your friends you are able to go." she cuts across me, my legs doing just that only they pause at the last moment and for some reason my brain is forcing words I never knew I would say, out of my mouth.
"You have no idea how much this means to me, you know with what happened to you both. Like I don't know exactly what, but I know enough to understand why you are the way you are. I have resented it yet understood it and thank you also for opening my eyes up regardless if you thought you shielded me from it."
They both take a moment to let my words sink in, tears welling in my Mum's eyes as she relieves the horror my Grandparents put her through. What horror I am not exactly sure of, all I know is that they were kidnapped by them and I legit had to dig for that information on the internet. The rest is confidential and I think that was on the behalf of my parents.
Then there's the other people that used to come around with similar scarring as well, buy I wasn't around them long enough to know exactly how they knew my parents, but I tried overhearing their conversation and found I didn't make sense out of any of it due to how muffled it was.
I do remember crying though, a lot of crying and other times when they would bring their kids around though it would be awkward between us considering we were too young at that point to even form a friendship let alone knew what one was.
"What exactly do you know?"
Looking back at Mum who had just asked the question, I think back and go through the things I know and that's they were kidnapped by my Grandparents. Whether they're alive or not is another thing, they didn't specify.
"You were kidnapped by my Grandparents Ally and-"
"Ashley and Alistair, Luke's father and Step-mother. I'll make it a brief version but a long time ago; almost eighteen years ago I discovered the body of my ex-boyfriend at the time in Alistair's office at some theme park he owned. Anyway once I was captured along with your father he took us all over the place, raping and torturing as well as force feeding people to us. So you can see why now your father and I were beginning to get worried with your obsession with trying to find out what happened to us because as soon as you started delving into the cannibalism, we freaked."
"That and we were told that we were to be traded in to other cannibal communities as well as families in return they keep the Cops off of their backs for kidnapping your Mum. Your Grandparents Jodi and Cam stopped at nothing until they got Emily back and I so happened to get out along with the others."
My face scrunches up in confusion at his words which Mum elaborates after getting herself an alcoholic beverage along with one for Dad.
"We weren't the only ones to suffer, we were forced to lure in other people for Alistair and Ashley so it kept his contact happy and complying with keeping the Cops at bay, so you can imagine how s**t we felt for dragging other people into the mess I felt I started. But we made it up to them by getting them all out alive one night. It was the night of the so called big trade and months before that we'd been saving sleeping pills so when the time came, we could slip it into their drinks and make out easy escape, and that's what we did. We were servants that night for the rich cunts and watched as they indulged themselves in human flesh, so you can get the sense of excitement I must have felt when I witnessed the entire room fall asleep."
"But your mother forgot to mention that another reason why we hated you going out all of the time is because a man named Max, a very highly looked upon member of the cannibal community who also has all of the connections. If he or his men get a sniff of our location we are f****d, he and his family have been after us for years ever since we brought the hammer down on their whole f****d up operation. You should have seen the amount of contacts he had in high up places such as political and law enforcement, flushed out once the entire case was cracked open and so many that were involved in our case were thrown behind bars for not bringing it to justice. So there are a lot of people out there who hate us and those who escaped with us that night, hence the reason why we rarely see each other these days."
Nodding my head and letting it all seep in, my first thoughts are to share it with my friends and tell them that my parents past is as f****d up as I thought and that maybe me being friends with them could put them all in danger.
Is it wise to have friends or would it be wiser to tell them the information I have just received? Then again that alone could put them in danger with just them knowing about my parent's pasts, but I can't keep this all to myself, it's going to eat me alive knowing that someone's after me and my family!
With my thoughts jumping to my Grandparents Jodi and Cam, I also think of my Aunty Lucy and Uncle Rory as well as my cousin Willow and think if they too are in danger? Like Aunty Lucy wasn't kidnapped yet I can't help but feel that her being my Mum's sister is enough to have something happen to her.
"Don't think too much on it, all we ask is that you keep this to yourself. It's not that we don't trust your friends, I just don't think giving them that information is exactly safe for th-"
"I know Mum, I legit just had that thought flash through my brain and think it is wise to just keep it between us three and these four walls." I cut across her with a small smile but still can't stop the nagging feeling of wanting to unload.
"Thank you Ida, now you can go and tell your friends that you're allowed to stay at whoever's house you decide on, but as long-"
"As I tell you whose house it is and where, I know Dad. Thanks guys again and I love you, you guys would have to be the strongest people I know." I grin before giving them both one last hug and kiss then disappearing to my room.
Selecting Amelia's number from my phone considering it's the first one in my contact's list out of my friend group, I wait for a second until hearing the other end pick up.
"Hey Ida what's up?"
"Nothing much, just wanted to tell you that it's a go ahead with me being able to stay out the night before we head off to the festival!"
"f**k YES! Alright I'll let the others know now in the group chat."
And seconds later a message dings on my phone and I'm instantly laughing. This girl wasn't f*****g around, it's as if she was texting it as soon as I opened my mouth. That and I've finally been added to the secret group chat they all had going on. Yay.
"There you go, so we have all agreed to stay at Ankara's house on Thursday night thanks to her parents not being there. So you have the whole day tomorrow to get your s**t together as well as inform your parents of what's going on because when Thursday hits, we're heading straight home from school early to gather our s**t so you might also have to tell your parents they might have to pick you up early if they can. If not I'm sure I can arrange something."
"No worries Amelia I'll let them know once I've gotten off the phone to you but I'm going to be honest here, I'm packing already."
We both share a giggle when she too confesses she's doing the same thing, the both of us talking for what feels like another half an hour until calling it quits.
"See you tomorrow and remember it is Wednesday tomorrow so bring your laptop for Music class. I think we'll be doing that research thing on our favourite artist."
"No worries, byyyeeee!"
"Byyyeee!"
Hanging up I let my body wiggle around in excitement in some form of demented dance before calming my s**t and continuing on with my checklist of things I will need, only to come out blank minded due to all of the excitement.
So concluding that it would be a good idea to get help from someone not so wound up, I head into the kitchen with the intension of updating them on whose house I'll be staying at as well as the plans for leaving school early on Thursday. That and see if Mum can double check I'll have everything.
How life is now finally coming together.
