Day 12

1702 Words
The following day Sera was up and about, exploring the grounds with George as her handy guide. “So we’ve left the infirmary where you and Doc stay. Over there are the guest quarters, where the rest of us are. Next to them are the Omega training houses, where Omegas train to become part of the fighting force and hopes to rise the ranks. Then the school and the teacher Ms Heywood is lovely, or so I’ve been told as I’m not enrolled in the school here. It seems fun learning the other kids say it isn’t and call me weird, maybe it’d because I’ve never gone to school.” “Mm-hmm” Sera agreed absent-mindedly. George realised her lack of attention. “And over there is where the have the hangings for those late to class.” “That sounds nice.” “Sera!” “What?” “You aren’t paying attention to me.” Sulked George, crossing his arms and pouting. “I’m sorry sweet, I’m just distracted.” “By what?” “With my thoughts, I’m thinking through everything that’s happened and to happen and trying to find a way we can all live freely and in peace.” “Aren’t we here?” George perplexed. Sera had made a promise to never lie to him, and any question he asked she would answer. “Maybe. I have the feeling-” “Like one of those gut feelings?” “Exactly, and I don’t feel us safe here.” “Is it because of Katrina?” “Ah, I pay her little mind George and you’d be best to do the same.” “I know, but when she says such mean things about Mummy, you and Doc it takes all my strength not to just whack her one.” And he mimed punching the air, Sera laughed. “I thought we taught you that fighting isn’t always the answer?” She raised an eyebrow. “You taught me to fight for what I believe in, and what’s right. Not always physically but mentally and intelligently.” Smirked George. Outsmarted Sera was a pleasure he delighted greatly in. “Oh yes, but it seems we didn’t teach you manners eh?” She slyly smiled. “No Sera. No.” Little George put his finger up. “No teaching me manners today okay?” “Too late, I catch you, I teach you. 5 seconds.” And she started counting, it was one of her favourite games to play with George; when he would be smarmy, or witty she would chase him until she caught him and tickle him until he apologised profusely. People would think that’s not fair, a grown adult against a little kid. But this kid was a Lycan, and a fast one even at his young age and Sera knew when he grew up he’d make a fantastic Omega. By this time George had pelted it past the school and across the main courtyard heading back to the start of their tour at the infirmary. Sera took chase. Bypasses and onlookers found this very strange indeed, as the mysterious human that had entered their grounds and the cub of one of the rescued Lycans played a human game of It, or Tag You’re It. Across the Pack Grounds you could hear his laughter and taunts: ‘You won’t catch me old woman, not today!’ and retorts of ‘Old?! Calling me old, you’re gonna pay for that!’ His giddy laughs carried through the air and landed upon the ears of his mother who was tending to the flower beds out front the Manor House. A rare smile crossed her face, she was happy to hear her son laugh and to know him and Sera were still in similar spirits. From the day he was born he took a shine to Sera, following her about the old house, curling up in her hospital bed when Doc wasn’t looking and Sera was just as smitten with him but of course she showed her love in a far different way sometimes. For instance, when George was about 3 and walking about he had somehow got himself into the guard quarters where he encountered some rather unsavoury guards who thought it would be funny to pick him up and stick him on top of a bookcase for him to cry and scream to be let down, and they would... by knocking the bookcase over. This ended with George on the floor with a broken shoulder blade, dislocated arm and some rather nasty cuts, gashes and bruises. Now Lucy was assisting Doc with a patient and hadn’t 3ealosed the little Houdini escape his playpen and by the time she came bounding up the stairs, Sera had George in her arms calming him down. Lucy had looked past Sera shoulder and saw 3 slumped bodies, looking very still, and a broken bookcase. She simply looked at Sera, took George from her arms and whisked him away to Doc. When Lucy had probed Sera for what happened she purely replied ‘I did to them what they did to him’. “Lucy, you with us?” Theo’s voice took her from her memory. She flustered. “Yes sorry, was daydreaming.” “I could tell, I think those flowers have got enough water though.” Lucy realised she was still pouring the now empty watering can. “Oh s**t, well at least they won’t go thirsty.” She laughed awkwardly. “What was it about?” “Hmm?” “Your daydream.” “Oh well nothing important.” She shrugged it off and stood up, her foot catching on her dress and she slipped slightly. Theo reached out his hand to help her up, when she took it a shock went through his body mot too dissimilar to a shiver that runs down your spine. “Thank you.” Lucy’s hand lingered a second longer before reaching down for the basket of flower seeds leaving an empty feeling between the two. “It must have been important as I stood here yapping away to you for a few minutes before I realised you weren’t paying attention.” Theo joked. “Oh I’m so sorry, please forgive me, I didn’t mean to ignore you.” Lucy bowed her head in shame and Theo realised she took his words seriously. “Please don’t be sorry, I meant no harm with my words just trying to make light of the situation.” He was getting flustered now, she looked up and laughed. “What?” He questioned to more laughter, a light laughter that he loved as her eyes lit up. “I’ve never seen an Alpha blush is all.” She confessed. Blush? He had never blushed in his life to his recall. “Well now you have and I’m glad it makes you so happy.” “Thank you,” She said again. “For everything I mean, taking us all in and looking after us. I’m personally very grateful for the chance to work in the gardens, never planted flowers before, and also for the care you’ve taken with my son. I know not every Alpha would treat him so kindly...” A twinge of self hatred hit Theo for feeling as he did about the matter. “... and for accepting that stupid deal of his.” “Ah yeah, quite an intuition he has, gets that from you I suppose. Quite charming as well.” “He gets that from his father.” Awkwardness sank on the two heavily. “I mean the intuition Goddess knows but the charm.” Theo simply nodded and looked away, sensing this Lucy changed the subject. “I was thinking about George and Sera, how they played together back then. Its nice to know that hasn’t changed in all this.” Theo listened and could then hear the laughter and he couldn’t quite hear exactly but he’s sure it was something along the lines of ‘I’m sorry I called you old, stop tickling me’ and ‘Not until you learn some manners my boy’. He chuckled. “They get on well then?” “Like water and earth. One can’t live without the other. I swear if I wasn’t his mother I would think he loves her more than me.” “Ah impossible.... I suppose you’re finished for the day?” “Mm-hmm” “Can I walk you back?” “Mm-hmm” “Can I ask a rather personal question?” As they began walking back to the guest houses. “Well you may have just said you find me loveable and that’s as personal as I’ve got in 7 years.” Oh she was witty too, Theo was loving this. “What happened to his father? We captured a few but no Omegas from the Pack.” A few minutes of silence as they walked on. “He died.” Admitted Lucy. “Before George was born.” “Oh. I’m sorry to hear that.” It was the generally accepted thing to say in normal circumstances but these weren’t normal circumstances. “I’m not. Doesn’t make me a horrible person to say I’m glad he’s dead. I don’t know the details but Tyreen did some horrible, terribly acts to us but he always stood his ground on one. Georges father broke that and was punished as such. We can all call him many things but he was always a man of his word that Tyreen, rather infuriating don’t you think?” Theo found himself admiring Tyreen. “Yes, rather infuriating.” Their walk was interrupted by a high pitched squeal as Katrina came bonding towards them. She proceeded to jump in Theos arms and gave him a rather one sided kiss. “Katrina! What have I told you about not doing that?” “What I can’t kiss my Mate oh gorgeous Alpha?” She teased as he dropped her down. “Lucy I’m sorry-” But she was gone. And Theo could hear a faint cry coming from the guest rooms that broke his heart.
