The day of the baseball game was set for 2 weeks away, it was determined this was long enough for Sera to heal from her injuries. Or how long Sera thought she would heal from her injuries to be exact. Doc was against the idea of Sera being involved, not for her being human, but purely for her health and his. George’s deal of 5 team members involved Lucy, Sera, Clara, Helena and Doc. Clara and Helena were overjoyed to find what they were playing for, giggling like little school children at the idea of Lucy on a date and when they found out who they were playing against they were almost beside themselves: Theo, Bella, Peter (the Gamma) and 2 rather handsomely strapping brothers called Karl and Thomas; both of whom had taken a liking to Clara and Helena.
At 55 and 56 respectively they were quite young for Lycans still but had very little contact with others, sending the best past of 2 decades at the Red Sun Pack didn’t give much of a chance. The only other Lycans they knew were either the slaves, or the slavers. Regardless of the cruelty they suffered they still held an innocence, naivety to some, of finding their second chance Mate. For this was all those held at Red Sun had in common; rejected mates cast aside to be forgotten. All but one.
The two arrived there on the same day still newly sore of a rejection they were swept up in the wonderful words that this charming Lord Alpha Kristopher Tyreen poisoned them with, promises of a happy life. He charmed them with ease; 2 young Lycans who had not even formed their wolf half, lost in the outskirts of his grounds. They were friends, exiled by their Pack for being rejected and forced to wander as nomads. Kris’ first thought of the 2 were very simple; Clara held a simply country charm with plain brown hair, matching eyes, but a very so subtle dimples on her cheeks when she smiled and boy, that smile would knock the habit of a nun. Helena on the other hand was a vixen, burning red locks and smouldering black eyes, she could bewitch a man that looked at her. He instantly had a favourite. Lured in under the pretence of safety and warmth they were greeted with the inside of a cold damp cell, pretence quickly disappeared once you were within the gates of Red Sun. It wasn’t until the third night they were given bread and water, and on the fourth that Helena was pulled away screaming from Clara’s grasp.

The soldiers from Red Sun were taken with Helena and were going to hold a contest as to who would claim her as his. It was after the 6th soldier got dragged away bloodied and beaten that a small part of Helena went with him, and never came back. She was already afraid of what was to come but had not resigned herself to the fact of being a “comfort slave” as was called, the Victor of the match stood proud and bared his teeth at Helena. As he lunged she could hear the laughter of the pack as she fought with all her might, kicking, scratching, even biting but that just spurred him on. A swipe of his claw across her side sent her hurtling across the room, a warm pool of blood being created in her hand as she clutched her broken ribs. She was running on empty and could feel her strength, and eyes, waning when just before it went dark she swore she saw a flash of white, a curdling scream and a soft hand catching her head before it hit the dark stone floor.
When Helena awoke in her cell she was greeted by a very teary eyed Clara, sporting a rather ugly purple bruise below her jaw.
“War wound” Clara shrugged, “The guard at our cell didn’t take kindly to my screaming threats of murder and decided my face needed a date with the cell bars.” Helena slightly chuckled, Clara was always a fighter.
“Hush, try not to make her laugh please. She needs rest to heal.” A deep, worn voice came from beside her head. The voice was accompanied by a face a moment later, an older masculine face. As he patted a damp cloth over her feverish brow she realised these weren’t the hands that saved her. Almost as if he could read her mind he smiled softly. “No my dear. I am Nathaniel, or folks round here call me Doc or account of me putting them back together again once broken. I am pleased to make your acquaintance Helena, though I wish it was under much better circumstances.” He took the cloth away and started packing up his bag. “You have a heck of a friend here.” He gestured towards Clara. “If it wasn’t for her ‘screaming threats of murder’ we wouldn’t have known you were here.”
“We?” Croaked Helena, slowly sitting up.
“Don’t move. Doctors orders” He said without turning round. “We didn’t know though because we weren’t expecting more.” He muttered not quite enough under his breath.
“More?” Puzzled Clara. “How many is there?”
“23 including you 2.” Doc sighed. “I make a rule of never lying to my patients, present or future. And you will be seeing me in the future.” He picked up his bag to leave and both of them caught the resemblance of a mark on his right arm. “My best advice is fight well, train hard, and don’t ever talk back to them. Your new and they will try to break you, tonight you showed them you aren’t so easy.”
“One thing...” Helena gasped in pain. “I saw a light, like a white light before I backed out.” Doc stopped for a split second, a look caught in his eye.
“Trick of a pained mind my dear. Rest and I will come check on you later”

For 17 years they had known Doc, it was a few years later they met Lucy, and a few after that George. Neither could quite remember exactly when they met Sera, it was almost as if suddenly she was there and had always been. They honed their fighting skills, learnt to battle and kill. But they were still children at heart and the idea of a game, with beautiful, muscular Lycans, and the stake of their friends love life on the line was all the excitement they could bare!
“Why couldn’t we play the game tomorrow?” Whined Helena, perching herself on Sera’s hospital bed.
“Because Sera needs to heal.” Argued Doc as he nudged her off the bed. “And 2 weeks isn’t enough time to heal.”
“Oh settle down Doc, I’ve come back from worse.” Sera took her place in the bed at Docs gesture.
“Why would he agree?” Mused Lucy half to herself. “Why wouldn’t he just say no, and demand the answers anyway.”
“Because he already knows half the answers Lucy, and he’d get them regardless. This way he gets something else..” Teased Clara. Lucy stared at her in anger. Clara continued. “Also I heard a rumour.”
“Ooh?” George made himself known.
“Well I heard, that he has some special guests coming. Guild and high ranking Pack Members, Alphas, Betas and Gammas coming from all over. All to see us.” Sera and Doc shared a look. “Word of the survivors of Tyreens Terror has spread all over, and we are like minor celebrities. Also that the Guild don’t quite condone what happened at Red Sun and want to question us independently.” Sera did not like the sound of that, neither did Doc.
“Well, as you said it’s a rumour.” Doc tried to ease the tension. “Now out, Sera needs to rest.” They all said their goodnight and left Sera to Doc. The silence hang between them.
“If the Guild is coming Doc...”
“I know.” He interrupted, and sat down heavily. “I’ll see you as fit as I can.”
“And then go. Like a breeze in the night Doc, you run.”
“Sera, I can’t keep running and running. I have to face it sometime.”
“We’ve just got free of one prison, we aren’t about to let you walk into another. We will wait and see if there’s anything to these rumours first.” She took his hand. “I also don’t trust this Theo, the way he still called Tyreen Lord...”
“Until the Guild say otherwise Tyreen is still an Alpha Lord. Theo will be forced by tradition to call him by his proper title, and if he believes that you were indeed Tyreens lover he would have called him Lord in an attempt to gain your favour. When in fact it has done the opposite.” He chuckled under his breath. “Goddess... I trust your wisdom and judgement but sometimes I question your ways.”
“Don’t we all, Doc. Don’t we all.”
They sat in silence for a moment longer, Doc said goodnight and left Sera alone with her thoughts.
