In what miserable, filth-ridden, twisted world is this fair? And furthermore what flea-bitten, bottom-feeder, brainless that thinks that he can just waltz right in and take their mate back? The mate they rejected in the first place. Sera was busy swearing to herself, arguing in her mind as to how best to kill the arrogant morons before they ever set foot on Azure Moon territory and steal away her friends.
“I hate to interrupt whatever you have planned there Sera...” Interrupted Theo. “But I’m going to assume by your reaction that we have bad news.” He looked towards his broken chair; it was a shame really. Solid oak, carved by his grandfather and had stood the test of time. Only to be snapped in half by a human. Perhaps not a mere human Theo pondered. But that was a conversation for another day.
“Yes.” She put bluntly. “And no.” She paused for a moment and turned to gave Theo with a deadly accuracy. “You said that from what you’ve found out that they have a valid claim, that to eyewitness accounts they didn’t do the formal rejection right?”)
“Yes.” Theo said, not following, Bella was quicker.
“But that’s only be what their mates and fellow pack members state. Having a survivor of these attacks in your Pack gives a sense of importance, a marketing ploy. They’re going to say whatever they need to take them back!” Bella was getting excited, perhaps all this was for naught.
“Yes, but all of them coming forward even if they know they rejected them seems ridiculous. Unless the Guild is going to use its powers, or some stupid by-law, these claims won’t hold up against the survivors’ stories. I know, know, that Lucy’s rejected her.”
“How?” Theo said coldly.
“Not my story to tell, that would be hers. And I get this is painful for you Theo, but I would recommend your keep your emotions in check. This isn’t about you right now, it’s about them.” Sera scolded back.
“What about Clara and Helena?”
“I’d have to check with them. I know they were found on the outskirts after being attacked, and exiled from their lands. That wouldn’t have happened without a rejection.” She tapped her fingers against her arms, thinking one more to herself.
“So first things first, we call all those affected in here and find out their side.” Bella took charge and was heading out the door when Theo stopped her.
“We have to consider all possibilities. Will the Guild believe them? I know you’re not naive enough Sera to think the Guild will allow the truth to get in the way of their wishes.”
She was surprised. “You believe that their side is true, without even speaking to them?”
“I try to be a good judge of character, my mother said I got it from her. One look and I could tell if friend or foe.”
“And when you looked at me?”
“Both.” He lifted his hands up against her glare. “I didn’t say it was true. But I believe that no sane, sensible person would walk through the doors into Red Sun Pack knowing they had a loving Mate back home.” He rose from his desk. “We need to get their sides, find out what happened, get as many details as possible. I’ll ask Sam to do the same with those affected his side. All that aside, a back up plan would be to find out if any of them have a second chance Mate or found them.” He rose a hand against Bella as he predicted her outburst. “That’s like looking for a needle in a needle stack I’m aware Bella. But we need to do all we can to protect those in our care. And I do mean all Sera.”
“I can take care of myself.”
“Of that I have no doubt, but the search of Red Suns lands have been completed. And we have found no trace of Tyreens body.” A shiver ran down Sera’s back, a warning she had learnt for worst to come. “We have found evidence to suggest a body was moved, we don’t know whose, how or when. I want to prepare for the fact that Tyreen may still be alive.” He looked dead at Sera, who finished his thought.
“And as his mate, he would come to claim me.”
“The Guild will never take the word of a human over an Alpha Lord. Regardless of crimes committed by said Lord. It’s an antiquated law, in dire need of change but in the last 500 years only 3 humans have ever entered our world. You are a rare breed, Sera. Very rare. If Tyreen doesn’t claim you, the Guild will.”
“As crappy as it was at Red Sun, at least it was simple. They wanted to kill us, we wanted to live. None of this stupid politics.” Sera left out a small laugh. “I’ll gather my three, Bella do you want to get the only 5? And Theo...” She looked at this Alpha, the only other one she had met destroyed her soul, her life, and nearly her will. How easily could this one be the same? “You contact Sam.” He nodded, and sat down at his desk wondering how to begin to explain all this in a letter. Bella went off to fetch her 5, Sera headed out to collect her 3 but before she shut the door she looked once more at Theo. He lifted his head and met her eyes, smiling softly before returning to his work. He thought, for a second, he saw her eyes glimmer as she left.
What am I doing, trusting another Alpha?
He can’t be any worse than the last.
True. But I think he is really trying to help us.
He is Lucy’s Mate. The Goddess wouldn’t have given her anything less than a kind soul like her.
Oh so I’m so torturous, murderous, egotistical prick if we work on the Mates being our equals.
I didn’t say that Sera... but yes.
Haha, very funny. What do we do now?
We prepare ourselves. These claims won’t hold up we know this.
What if they do? What if we lose them?
We won’t. Not after all we’ve been through. Theo and Bella will help us, we aren’t on our own anymore.
And you trust them?
Theo; same as said before if the Goddess and Lucy do, I do. Bella goes without saying, she will give her all, hell even her life before admitting defeat.
Well, I trust you. And she is a strong willed one for certain.
Aye, that she is Sera. I’ve somewhat filled our girls in on what’s happening. Good thinking linking me in. Do you think they could tell?
No Doc, I don’t think they could. After all what would a human be doing using an Alpha link. They wouldn’t believe me if I told them.
