“Perhaps it’s best to stop there for today?” Bella suggested.
“Forgive them, they are protective of me that’s all.”
“We appreciate that Sera but taking this a step at a time will be easier for all of us involved.” Bella was a good voice of reason.
“Yes, but there’s still the matter of the other reason you came to see me, Theo?” Sera joined him at his desk, he was sat in his office chair with a heavy thinking face.
“Why did Clara get scared of the Guild?” He hadn’t lifted his gaze from a spot on his desk. “More so, why did she think they would take you away?”
Sera Sighed, ran her fingers through her hair, and waited for Bella to ensure the hallway was clear of eavesdroppers. “We know they turned a blind eye to what Tyreen was doing, bought off to turn a blind eye, so we have very little faith that them coming is something good.”
“I agree with you there.” Theo regained his Alpha composure. “They’ve sent word they wish to come here, to discuss your situations personally. And my fellow Alpha, Samuel Deane, from the Shadow Bane Pack sent word to say your companions there are fully healed and wish to come see you all as well. They are due to arrive in 8 days, the Guild in 15.”
Sera had lent forward, resting on her knees, Theo read this as a nervous trait.
“Was there anything specific in either letter?” She was fishing for something.
“No.” He lied. “The 2 things of note is that Samuel advised he is bringing along some fellow Alphas, Betas as this has disrupted all of us in many ways. What I hear is a few companions have found their second chance Mates, similar to a few here.” He raised a knowing eyebrow at Bella. “It seems quite a few of Tyreens victims have turned out to be Mated with senior Pack members across the country. This is concerning to the Guild as they think its a false claim and its a sordid plan to uproot our society and place Tyreen as Commanding Lord of all.”
“Did you really think we’d want that man having total power?”
“No, but as you are his mate, the Guild will not simply take my thoughts or feelings into account.”
“And the second thing of note?”
Bella looked at her Alpha uneasy, she hadn’t read the letter but knew the Guild 2ould be warning him of something.
“The news of all survivors has spread widely across our society, as best we could to keep names hidden these have been leaked. We are investigating as to where, how and who. The Guild have received news that the initial Mates of a number of survivors have come forward and are happy to claim back their rightful mates.”
Shit. Bella waited for a scream, a smash, something dramatic from Sera but instead she just laughed. Theo held they same confused look.
“I’m sorry.” Sera managed out between bursts of laughter. “Those arseholes think they can just swoop in and whisk these people off their feet. When they rejected, abused and exiled their ‘mates’. I love the audacity of these vermin, and sense of pride they all of a sudden have to protect.”
“This is no laughing matter Sera.” Warned Bella.
“Oh yeah it is, all 20 Lycan survivors were rejected and their bound broken. These initial mates have no claim.”
“Yes, they do.” Theo held stern from Seras look. “I’ve looked into a few of them myself, and to eyewitness accounts there are at least 12 who hold a valid claim.”
“How?! Who?!” Seras rage starting to leak out.
“If the Mates in question never stated ‘I their name, do hereby reject mates name, as my Goddess Mate. The bond between us is no more, may the Goddess in her wisdom, treat you well.’ Then the claim, and bond, remain.”
“But they did reject them? Some outright said ‘I reject you’, they attacked them, forced them from their home. Surely the bond would break.” Sera pushed back.
“In normal circumstances yes, and if the rejected find another Mate they create a new bond and everyone lives happily ever after. But these aren’t normal circumstances Sera.” Th3o had done a fair amount on research into this before ever receiving the Guilds letter. From the moment he met Lucy and found out all the others were rejects he wanted to check nothing could come and bite him in the arse. “If those exact words were not spoken, and the bond didn’t break, and the rejected haven’t formed a new bond then the Guild will uphold the original claims.”
“A new bond?” This was new information to Bella. “But if they have a found a second chance Mate a new bond would be instantly created.”
“Normally, yes. But after years of constant fear, terror and torture the Wolves within all the Lycans are scared. By a new bond it has to be accepted by both human counterparts, wolf counterparts, and marked.” Theo educated, a pit rising in his stomach.
“Let me get this clear then...” Sera stood up and started pacing. “For these 12 survivors to not have to go back to original douchebags of mates, they have to hope they have, and find, a second chance Mate. For all of them to accept the bond. And to be marked? Which I’m pretty sure means the humans have s*x, the wolves have s*x, and then the wolves will bite the human counterpart? And on top of all of this we have 20 Lycans who have very little control over their wolves, and that’s if their wolves are still with them. And all in the next 15 days?”
“Pretty much.” Agreed Theo. “Wait, what did you say about if their wolves are still with them?”
“During the experiments at Red Sun, or the failure of a set task, Tyreen had a way of making them shift. Of pulling their wolves out of them. He bet them down just as much as he did the human counterparts. A few I knew had their wolves...” She gripped the back of the chair, fighting the tears. “...had their wolves ripped from them. Without them to protect the human part died from their injuries. Other Lycans shifted when being tortured, and we realised it was the wolves trying to protect them again, but all this did was weaken the connection.”
Bella was on the verge of tears herself, they had thought about the physical healing but never imagined the cruelty Tyreen could afflict upon the Goddess Gift of their wolves. “At least 7 of the survivors to my knowledge haven’t heard from their Wolf half in years.”
“Those 7 may not be part of the claims though. Who has a claim against them Theo?” Although his posture didn’t give it away, his wolf, Xavier, was torn in pain.
I would have ripped him limb from limb Theo.
I know Xavier, I would have helped.
If they have no wolf though, they have no hope.
We must believe, we will find a way.
I’m worried
What for?
I tried to talk to Lucys...
And?
I heard nothing. No whisper, no name. It was like a black field.
I’m sorry Xavy.
I know the same as you Theo, you haven’t told Bella yet, but Lucy has a claim against her.
...
I’m sorry too T.
“Theo? Who are the 12?” Bella touched his hand gently, and saw the glint of pain. “No, Theo. Not her. Not after all this time.”
Seras knuckled were going white from gripping the chair.
“All 20 of the survivors original Mates have been notified, and will be arriving.” Theo stated calmly.
“ALL? 10 minutes ago you said only 12?!” Bella was furious.
“I said only 12 I have found to possibly hold a valid claim.” Again he was calm.
“Who.” Demanded Sera through gritted teeth. Theo pulled out his notes from the top drawer on his desk.
“From Shadow Bane: Freya, Sienna, Evie, Penelope.” He began.
“I know them, they’re fighters. They were front line for our escape hence why they were badly injured, they all have their wolves still. Strong Lycans but I’m not so clear how they got to Red Sun.” A moment of peace to know 4 had a fighting chance. Not perfect with what they have to do to stop going back, but atleast they weren’t lost from the get go.”
“From here: Molly-“
“Well that’s not fair.” Interjected Sera. “She may be with Katrina but she always seemed to not want to be there.”
“..Isabella, Arabella, Lily, Sophia.”
“All those 5 still have their wolves. They weren’t there long, few years most.” Sera’s gripped was loosening on the chair. “That’s 9. Doing alright so far. Why am I not liking this suspense?”
“Clara, Helena and Luc-“
CRACK! The chair snapped under Sera’s hands.
