The Seal

The next morning, Drey’s phone rang suddenly. It was Betty Lavender. He picked it up immediately. “Hello Betty, good morning.” “Good morning, Drey!” She sounded a bit excited. “I have good news for you!” Drey sat up. “Yes, tell me about it.” “You know I told you about my friend that works at Euphoric Bio. Well, she doesn't even work in Euphoric Bio again. She works in the Imperialsage Group. And she already fixed a meeting with the chairman of the Imperialsage Group,” she explained, happiness edging her voice. Drey smiled. “Really?” “Yes, and in fact, it's this morning. So, let's move now so we can be able to finalise everything today.” “Good then, I will pick you up at home soon,” he assured and hung up. Betty didn't know that it wasn't her friend that made seeing the Chairman of the Imperialsage Group very easy, but there was no need to tell her. What he wanted was for her to be happy. As long as she was happy, he was fine with anything. Drey got up to get ready. In the next few minutes, he was ready. He walked out of the house. Charles was already by the car, waiting for him. “Good morning, boss,” Charles greeted with a smile on his face. Drey reciprocated the smile. “Good morning, Charles.” “Where to this morning?” “Take me to Betty’s house,” he responded and got inside the car. Charles took the driver's seat and soon drove out of the house. Even though the distance between Teewinot Cabin and Betty's house was far, they were able to reach there faster because of Charles's driving skill. As they neared the house, Betty got out of the house and jumped towards the car. She was all excited and happy. It was as if she just won a jackpot. She opened the door and got inside. Betty was seeing the chairman of the Imperialsage Group, so she dressed well and applied a bit of makeup. In all, she looked very beautiful. “You look beautiful, honey,” Drey admired her. Betty blushed as she slipped into the car beside him. “Thank you so much, honey. Well, this is an important meeting; I needed to put my all into it!” She announced. Drey nodded once but didn't say anything. Betty snuggled close to Drey and placed her head on his shoulder. “I can't wait to be done with this so that my family can finally accept you as my husband.” Drey nodded once. “I know you've got this.” Betty smiled. “Oh,” she said suddenly. “Did you hear what happened last night? It's all over the internet.” “What happened?” “Well, it's about the Sterling family. The head of the family, Mason Sterling, was murdered yesterday,” she revealed. “Really?” Drey feigned ignorance. “I have no idea. I even slept late yesterday,” he lied. Betty nodded once. “Yesterday was the family patriarch's birthday, and they were also hosting the celebration for the GlobalPinnacle Group that signed a permanent agreement with the ImperialSage Group. And then, the masked man came, according to one of the eyewitnesses. He came and killed the Mason Sterling, she explained. “Do you know the Sterling family is the head of the four major families in Orange Park?” Drey shrugged briefly. “I have no idea actually, but I guess that's right.” “Well, the Sterling family is known throughout Orange Park and even beyond. Even women would kill to marry into that family. So, it was right that the news of the death of the family patriarch would currently be circulating,” she further explained. “Oh, I haven't even checked the news. I have no idea what is going on,” Drey said. “Well, the Sterling family fame is known within and abroad. Especially two of Mason’s sons that don't live in Orange Park. What's their name again?” She tried to remember. “Chris and Lucas. They used to be the best bachelor of the year.” “Hmm,” Drey thought about it. “Well, you had the chance yesterday. You could have just divorced me so you could marry one of them.” Betty sat up to look at Drey. She shook her head briefly. “Not so. I mean, what else am I looking for?“ She had seen Drey’s place and had looked it up on the internet. It was the Teewinot Cabin, one of the most expensive residential areas in Orange Park. Drey was rich on his own, though she was yet to know to what extent. But she wasn't even curious about it. She wondered what Drey had seen in her that made him go for her. That was why Betty was glad and had decided she wasn't going anywhere. “Besides, these rich people don't really consider anyone else's feelings. And I'm looking for someone that loves me. Since you do, and you are even rich, what else am I waiting for?” Drey smiled at this. Betty had a pure heart, and she was calculative as well. He liked the fact that she wasn't even materialistic. Charles soon pulled off in the parking lot of a very huge and magnificent building of the Imperialsage Group. They got out of the car and moved towards the entrance. But Betty was anxious, and she was unconsciously waiting for her friend to come out. Suddenly, a taller woman with heavy makeup walked out. She regarded Betty for a moment, unbelievably, before she moved closer. “Betty Lavender?” She called, shocked. She heard about the quick transformation of Betty's face, but she couldn't believe it until she was looking at her now. “It's me, Ann!” Betty jubilated. “I'm so happy you are now working for the Imperialsage Group.” Ann smiled slightly, with a bit of pride. “Well, it's one of the biggest companies in Orange Park now. Besides, the salary as the head of a department is huge.” Betty nodded once, a wide smile plastered across her face. She was happy for her friend. “So, when can we meet the chairman?” Ann got disturbed for a moment. She then cleared her throat meaningfully. “Well, I haven't set any meeting with him.” Betty was shocked. “But you said you have.” “Well, setting up a meeting with the Chairman isn't that easy. That's why I have arranged a meeting instead with the general manager of the Imperialsage Group. He promised to help you as long as you are obedient.” Betty stared, confused. “I don't understand what you mean.” “I mean,” she stopped and signalled for her to move even closer to her. “The general manager is willing to arrange a meeting with the chairman if you can spend the night with him.” Betty was taken aback. “What! No!” She rejected angrily. “How can you suggest such a thing? Besides, you told me it was all settled. How could you deceive me like this?” Betty wasn't only shocked at what was coming out of Ann’s mouth; she was also angry. How could Ann suggest something of such to her? “Well, I'm sorry about that,” she apologised and walked away. Betty sighed, feeling dejected. She was so elated this morning, thinking she was in control of it already. And now what? She was scared that her family might force her to divorce Drey if they weren't able to secure the deal. She turned to look at Drey. “I'm so useless, aren't I? I can't even get this done.” Drey flashed her a smile. “I still think you should request a meeting with the chairman directly. I'm sure he would want to meet you and see what you have for the company,” he suggested. Betty released a ragged sigh. Maybe Drey was right, but she was anxious about seeing the Chairman. Drey gently led her forward. “I know you can do this,” he said softly. Ann walked out again, suddenly, her heels making a click with the floor. But she was closely accompanied by a short, handsome man. A wide smile was on Ann’s face as she moved towards Drey and Betty. “Mr. Jason, here is Betty Lavender,” she introduced as she stopped in front of Betty. “Betty, this is Mr. Jason, the general manager of the mighty Imperialsage Group,” she announced. Jason felt proud of himself at the announcement while Ann smiled. She has called Jason and even sent a picture of Betty to him last night. And she was able to strike a deal with him since she got her current position by sleeping with Jason. She was Jason's mistress. But last night, he promised to promote her as the deputy manager of the department if she could make Betty his. Jason had fallen head over heels for Betty's picture, but looking at her now, he realised the picture did her no justice. She was more beautiful in person. Besides, there were areas that the picture had not covered. Betty was not only beautiful but also curvy. “Hello, Betty,” he started in a nice voice. “I must say that you are pretty, but how about we go somewhere more private to discuss it, the hotel room perhaps. If you can do mine, I will surely give you an order worth more than you ever imagined. Name it? 30 million dollars or 50 million dollars?”
