16 THE PROPOSITIONThey prayed and meditated every hour that they were awake, except during the evenings when they played in the hotel bar from four thirty until eleven with between six and seven o’clock off for a free meal, during which Emma tried to pray too, so seriously did she take it. Wayne didn’t know about that, or he may have counselled that she take a well-deserved break for the hour, although at all other times he gave her one hundred percent support, because he could not bring himself not to.
