Don’t rile the Wolf

It all happened so quickly. We got off the plan, for settled into our hotel room and headed out to the Ceremony. Treaties were signed, Alphas met other Alphas and a few Luna and Betas occasionally argued. But other than that, it was a rather peaceful and relaxed evening...until it all came crashing down and I hated myself for jinxing things with my wishful thinking. Gunshots replace the sounds of the once calming ambient music and rain down so heavily that from a distance, someone could mistake it for rain. Without thinking, I run straight towards the sound of fighting. Every Luna is attached to their Alpha and have the desire to protect, even if most of the protecting is towards pups instead of adults. All I knew was that Levi may need me, and I wasn’t going to ignore that. This Luna was no coward. I quickly pick up speed and begin to sprint. I never transformed standing still, it hurt that way. I didn’t need anything to keep me from my beloved. Before I can jump off the ground however, my arm is snatched by a huge wolf who starts to carry me in the opposite direction. I look up bewildered to suddenly see a form I knew too well. Kain. “What the hell are you doing?! The fight is that way!!” I don’t get a response back as the huge animal continues to carry me against my will. And the worst part is that Axel is allowing it to happen. When I mind link him for help, he just turns away in silence. Frustrated, I gather all my strength and punch him in the eye. It works. He stumbles and drops me to the ground looking very annoyed. “Move! I have to fight!” “You’re not going anywhere” “Excuse me??! My mate is fighting-” “Because he is an Alpha and there is danger. You are a Luna, your place is with the others in the safe zone.” I stare at him in anger as tears now flood my vision. Who the hell did he think he was? First he treats me like garbage, then he insults my mate and new pack, now he’s trying to protect me? He doesn’t know what his own deal is!!! “I am no longer your concern Kain” “You’ll always be my concern Simon” We stare at each other as the rest of the world goes silent. If there was noise, I didn’t hear it. If I was in danger, I no longer felt it. All there was in this moment….was him. I hated him a few minutes ago. Loathed him. And I should. He was heartless and cold. So why did his actions now tell me the opposite? Why did his eyes plead with me to stop resisting? Why did his aura feel like that of a protective mate’s? I didn’t get it. And right now damn sure wasn’t the time to try and find answers. Especially after a bullet suddenly clipped my shoulder and made my body engulf in flames. Not the good kind, but the “put me out of my misery” kind. “Simon!!!!!” He screamed my name and tried to nudge me but I couldn’t respond. My mouth now foamed up and my body succumbed to horrible spasms. Even Axel was cut off from my thoughts, leaving totally alone to this torture. There was only one thing that explained this. Wolfsbane. And lots of it. The bullet was clearly packed with enough of a dose that was intended to kill. If not, it only would’ve put me to sleep or made me drowsy. Imagine if it actually punctured my skin…now the bowls of pain definitely made sense. These hunters were clearly advanced. With a weak hand, I reached up and Kain instantly grabbed me before tossing me over his shoulders and breaking out into a crazy sprint. He ducked and dodged the bullets whizzing behind us as we neared the safe zone. It was a hidden place built on the island, designed to hide all Lunas and pups in case of emergencies like this. But nobody ever planned to use it. What a sad day for wolves indeed. As we reached the pathway to the entrance, we came to a stop and he became rigid. Something was wrong but I was too weak to ask what. Instead, he placed me quickly in some nearby bushes and covered me up in shrubs before jumping back to his original spot and snarling. I mustered up whatever I had left in me and turned on my left side to peak at whatever was going on. Out of nowhere, a group of hunters opened fire and threw ropes around him to try and bag him up. He fought back with all his strength and led the fight in the opposite direction. One quick look at where I was hidden told me everything I needed to know. He hid me and sacrificed himself by becoming a distraction so they wouldn’t find me. Before the darkness consumed me, I was able to do one final thing before losing consciousness...send a prayer to the moon goddess. To protect my mate...and another I used to love.
