Ryan has just finished giving me some new updates when the door to my office flies open, and my second-born son barges in. “Mom, I have to talk to you,” Garrett insists, and my urge to scold him for just walking on in without even knocking evaporates almost instantly just from the frenzied, panicked look in his eyes. Something is seriously wrong. “Alright, have a seat,” I tell him, gesturing to the open chair next to Ryan. I can already tell that Ryan no longer has plans of leaving my office anytime soon, at least not until Garrett is finished with whatever has him on edge like this. “I, uh … maybe my dads should be here for this too,” Garrett says uncertainly, seeming to consider the seat I offered him for a split-second but ultimately deciding to remain standing. Or rather, pacing.
