CHAPTER TWO

Peace of mind. It may just have been a few minutes but she felt her mind at peace, she felt at ease. She lay soaking in a dark marble tub, the soft sent of the bath salts soothed her even more, and the dim lighting of the dark and elegant bathroom only added tranquil. She let her body slide further into the tub so her head went under the water, in there she heard nothing, nothing at all. She tried not to let her thoughts wander to the happenings of the past one year, or even the night. She just wanted to be at peace for as long as she could. She wanted to stay in here without worrying about a client not being satisfied or about the cops somehow finding her. She brought her head back up for air, wiping off the soapy water from her face she dragged in a deep breath to calm her nerves that had just began to stress. “Stop Madeline”. She said to herself quietly. “Don’t think about it all”. She didn’t want to think about the humiliation she had been through every day for the past one year, she didn’t want to think about the abuse, the torture she went through night after night, she didn’t want to think about the cuffs and the whips, she didn’t want to think about having her mouthful and being unable to breathe, she didn’t want to think about it all. A knock sounded at the main door of the bedroom, she was grateful for the distraction for her memories had begun flashing through her mind without her consent. Carefully, she climbed out of the tub, grabbed a towel and wrapped it around herself before she walked to the door and opened it slowly. Standing outside was a young lady who looked about her age, in her hand was a paper bag which she didn’t take long to hand to her. “The Boss expects to see you at breakfast tomorrow, by seven. Don’t be late”. She said. Madeline collected the bag slowly, she opened it slightly so she could see what was in it, the silky red fabric told her all she needed to know, it was a dress. She began shaking her head at once, she had never been one to exploit people’s generosity. “I cant accept this”. She said to the lady. “Not after all he has done for me”. “Just be at breakfast tomorrow Miss Cooper, boss’s order”. She said curtly. With that she turned around and walked away, the sounds of her heels clacking against the tiled floors resounded around the hallway till she was gone. Slowly Madeline closed the door and walked to the large king sized bed, it was grand and all but all she could think about was that she hadn’t given her last name yet the lady just now had addressed her with it. She cleared her throat quietly, perhaps it was nothing serious, after all she was in a mansion that looked like a five star hotel, the people here were undoubtedly influential, and of course they would look her up. They looked her up! Her heart began thundering against her chest as anxiety crept its way into her nerves like vines crawling up a wall slowly. She was a criminal, she had murder alongside other minor crimes on her record. what if they called the cops on her? She hadn’t gone through all that just to go to jail, she shuddered at the mere thought of it. No, ahe most definitely couldn’t go to jail, not after suffering for a year for it. Though tired and somewhat weary ,she set the paper bag aside, stood up and went to grab her clothes, she didn’t know her way around the house, she didn’t know where she would go from here, but she did know she wasn’t going to sit here and wait for the cops to come take her. She wasn’t a prisoner here and she could leave whenever she pleased. Once she was done putting on her clothes she wrapped her wet hair in a towel and squeezed hoping she could reduce the moisture, she knew her coarse hair took longer to dry but she had no time. Once she was satisfied with her hair no longer dripping she unwrapped the towel and ran her fingers through the wet strands quickly, with that she headed out. ~~ Unlike the lady who had brought the boss’s message she wasn’t wearing heels at passed midnight so the sound of her footsteps were quiet and somewhat nonexistent. As much as it bothered her to leave without properly thanking the man who had saved her she couldn’t help it, she couldn’t wait for the cops to come get her. She didn’t blame him for calling the cops, after all he could get in trouble for harboring a criminal. She wasn’t sure where she was going as she walked down the flight of stairs quietly, all she knew was that some bends seemed familiar from when she had been lead to the room she had been in, she followed her instincts and kept walking. On getting downstairs her gaze met the dark menacing ones of two guards who were standing by the door which lead outside. Something about the way they looked at her didn’t sit well within, however, she was getting out of here and that was all that mattered. Dragging in a deep breath she braced herself and walked to them. “Good evening”. She greeted quietly. “I would like to leave now, send my gratitude to the boss please”. The guards exchanged meaningful looks before one said; “It is late, and the streets aren’t safe at night, perhaps you could leave tomorrow”. She shook her head. “I can manage”. She argued. The guard was about to say something when a familiar deep voice cut in smoothly from behind her. “It didn’t seem that way to me, Madeline”.
