The temple had grown quiet.
With the Alphas gone and their wolves descending the mountains to gather their packs, the vast stone halls felt almost peaceful. Sunlight filtered through the open circle in the temple ceiling, casting a soft glow across the smooth stone floor.
Aria sat near a small fire Kael had started in one corner of the temple courtyard.
She leaned back against one of the large pillars, stretching her arms above her head.
“I forgot how exhausting magic training is,” she muttered.
Kael chuckled softly as he turned a piece of roasted meat over the fire.
“You say that like you’ve been doing it for years.”
Aria smirked.
“Feels like it.”
He handed her a strip of roasted venison.
“Eat.”
She took it gratefully.
“Thanks.”
For a few minutes they sat in comfortable silence, the only sound the quiet crackle of the fire and the distant mountain wind moving through the open temple roof.
Aria watched the flames while she ate.
Her body felt stronger today.
The heavy exhaustion from the night before had faded. In its place was a steady warmth in her chest—the same power she had been learning to control.
Kael noticed her staring at her hands again.
“You want to try something?”
Aria swallowed the last bite and nodded.
“Yeah.”
