Warm Feelings

Aria blinked. “What?” Kael’s eyes narrowed slightly. Torren shrugged. “Hey, I didn’t make the rules.” Aria looked at Lyra. “You’re joking.” Lyra shook her head slowly. “No.” Aria stared at Kael again. He looked just as surprised. Darius spoke calmly. “Werewolves sometimes form a bond stronger than ordinary relationships. It’s rare… but when it happens, the moon itself connects the two souls.” Torren grinned. “Basically, fate says you belong together.” Aria crossed her arms immediately. “That’s ridiculous.” Torren pointed again. “Then explain the energy spike just now.” Aria hesitated. She couldn’t. Because she had felt it. That strange warmth when Kael looked at her. Kael stepped forward slowly. His voice was quieter now. “I felt it too.” Aria’s heart skipped slightly. “That doesn’t mean anything.” Torren snorted. “Sure it doesn’t.” Lyra ignored him. “The bond isn’t instant.” She looked at both of them carefully. “It grows over time.” Aria rubbed her temples. “This is too much.” Torren laughed. “You’re an ancient moon guardian with magic powers and six Alpha packs fighting over you.” He gestured between her and Kael. “But the soulmate thing is where you draw the line?” Aria pointed at him. “You’re not helping.” Kael finally smiled slightly. The tension in the room softened. Aria noticed it immediately. That warmth returned again. And this time it stayed.
