Ane widened her eyes; her fake smile almost vanished from her face. "What do you mean, Ethan?" she said with an awkward laugh.
Ethan swallowed. "Like Odette just said, you hurt him."
Ane walked closer to Ethan. "What do you mean? I don't understand," she said.
There was no more of that smile as Ane approached. She hardened her chin, glaring at Ethan.
But Ethan didn't flinch. "You know, you didn't even go to Paris, did you? I saw you enter the domestic flight gate."
Ane stopped her steps. While Odette smiled with satisfaction, Liana widened her eyes at her mother. While Roman still kept his gentle expression.
After all, he already knew about it, didn't he? Roman hears Ethan's sentence while he waits in front of the elevator. Although he should be surprised to hear that.
"Y-you too, go hang out with a guy. He's definitely not just a friend."
But Ane's previously hardened expression turned into a smile.
"Ethan, I want to ask you one thing first," said Ane, crossing her arms across her chest, her head tilted to the left.
Ethan glared at Ane.
"What do you mean by saying that, Ethan? Don't you have anything to do with it?" said Ane while coughing. "I mean, you have nothing to do with Roman. My husband."
Ethan was furious that he couldn't hide the tears that were starting to fill his eyes.
After all, everyone already knows about him and Roman, right? Although not all, because Miles and Niall must be confused.
Ane then stepped. This time the steps were slow and deep. It was as if she was mocking Ethan, who couldn't do anything while she could move freely.
"I will ask again, Ethan, what are you doing with my husband?"
Finally, Ane stopped exactly two steps in front of Ethan. He looked up at the ceiling, then put his index finger to his lips.
"Cheating, right?"
Ane laughed sarcastically. Meanwhile, Ethan turned his gaze to Roman. He really still looks so tough, even at a time like this. Happiness still appeared in his eyes. Well, because Ethan is the one who brings that happiness to him. It's not strange that it will be seen when she meets Ethan.
Ane glanced at Roman, who was staring at Ethan without blinking. "Well, you guys don't even hide it, not even in front of my kids, even Miles and Niall."
When Ane mentioned her children, Ethan turned his gaze to Liana, Odette, Miles, and even Niall, who was now smiling at him.
Ethan smiled at Niall. He felt as the youngest child, who was always the victim of the jokes of other family members, he had to return Niall's smile.
Ethan was surprised when Ane pushed him gently. His attention turned to Ane. "I might know what you really want. You want to take Roman from me, don't you? That's why you made up all those stories, Ethan."
Ethan shook his head. This is the time, isn't it? Everyone will agree with Ethan.
"At the bar. Don't you remember that I found you? No, I did see you from the start, entering the bar with your friends. I was just silent at first. On the one hand, I was devastated to see you. You were clearly not drunk when you kissed that guy, right? That perverted Seamus even wants to take you somewhere when you're unconscious. You don't remember it, huh?"
Ethan couldn't hold back his tears anymore. His shoulders were shaking, too, remembering how Eggbert Seamus teased him too when he tried to protect Ane.
Meanwhile, Ane's eyes widen and may soon burst. "What are you doing, huh?"
"Did you forget that I pulled you away from that p*****t, Seamus? You should be thanking me."
Ane raised his hand. It was apparent that the hand she was shaking violently. But Ethan was not afraid to see it.
"If only you weren't the person, Mr. Pearson love, I might have let that p*****t take you away."
Ethan was ready to take a hit or a slap from Mrs. Pearson, but he was so surprised when suddenly Roman was in the middle of the two of them and holding his wife's hand.
That old man not only held her hand, but Roman also pushed Ane's hand, making Ane's eyes widen. Roman could see his wife's head shaking gently.
"Please, Ane, it's enough," said Roman.
Ane then grabbed her wrist; she then stroked it. "Roman, how could you do that?"
A tear fell from Anne's eye. "You know, he's trying to take you from me by making up all those lies. He wants us to get a divorce, so he can have you completely. I don't understand. How can you be eaten by his lies, Roman?"
Ethan touched Roman's waist from behind. "I-I'm not lying, Mr. Pearson," Ethan whispered.
Ane hugged Roman tightly while wiping Ethan's hand from Roman's waist. "He lied, Roman. I didn't do that."
It seems what Liana said is true. Well, Liana can't be mistaken. Mrs. Pearson was her mother. She must have known her better than anyone else.
The probability of being wrong is almost zero.
Seeing Ane, who was crying while hugging him, made that old man raise his hand and stroke her hair gently.
This didn't surprise Liana, but Odette, who had been smiling earlier, her breath immediately turned heavy. She stepped closer then tried to make Ane release her hug.
"Are you deaf? Even Ethan has even told us everything, and you could still do that to my father."
Ethan could clearly see Odette, as Ethan alluded to. She was the female version of Roman. She looked strong, and seeing her cry took him by surprise.
"Honestly, even Ethan is better than you. Maybe dad should just divorce and be with Ethan."
Ane again raised his hand, intending to slap Odette, but Roman quickly restrained her. He then pulled Ane into the hallway next to the stairs.
And they both disappeared into the walls of the hallway.
***
Ethan is now in the twins' room because Niall had asked him to go to their room.
Ethan just followed. Now he sat beside the twins' bed while Liana sat at Niall's chair and Odette leaned against the bedroom door.
Neither of them made a conversation.
Meanwhile, they could still hear Ane's voice arguing with Roman.
Odette drew her breath and released it. "You know, I thought I'd go there because, as we all know, dad would have given that woman a second chance if we weren't there."
But Liana stood up, stopping Odette's movements, while Ethan glanced back and forth at Liana and Odette.
They had stared at each other before. Finally, Odette leaned back against the door of the twins' room. "Okay, fine," she protested.
A few moments later, Ethan felt someone touch his shoulder, and when Ethan turned around, Niall was sitting on his bed. He even seemed to want to walk over to Ethan.
"What's wrong, mate?" said Ethan as he approached him, making Niall undo his intention to get off the bed.
Niall puffed out his cheeks, his brow furrowed. At first glance, he looked like Roman when he was serious. "I can not sleep."
Ethan nodded his head. "Why can't you sleep? Even though Miles is sleeping, you know."
Niall looked back and saw that his twin brother had fallen asleep. "He's like a koala. If he doesn't tease me, he sleeps."
Liana laughed while Odette smiled. "Yes, it's your fate to be the youngest child, isn't it?" said Odette.
Ethan then sent a scornful look at Odette. "What? You want to protest?" Odette said in a curt tone, but it was apparent she couldn't help but smile.
Ethan then looked back at Niall. Ethan even lifted his chin. "It's okay, Niall. As your fellow last child, I will always be by your side."
Niall clapped merrily. Ethan also clapped, but not as loudly as Niall. He was afraid he would wake Miles, even though it seemed impossible.
"So, Niall, what can I do to put you to sleep?" asked Ethan.
"Hmm," Niall asked as he looked around, trying to find something that might give him the answer.
Her eyes lit up when he saw the small bookshelf where he and Miles usually put their favorite books or the book they were reading on the shelf.
Niall got off the bed and approached the bookshelf. He stood there looking at it from end to end. Until he finally pulled out a book and gave it to Ethan.
"How about reading me a story?"
Ethan received the book while Niall lay back on his bed. Ethan also asked for Liana's approval, but instead, she glanced at Odette, who then shrugged her shoulders.
"You know, about the agreement between the twins."
Liana and Odette looked at each other. Finally, Liana laughed. "Well, Miles is sleeping. He certainly won't know if you read a story for Niall. So, it's okay." Liana said, but she shrugged her shoulders. "I think."
Ethan decided not to think about the deal about the twins.
Niall exclaimed as Ethan opened the book. "Ay ay captain, what an interesting choice. Let's sail across the ocean!"
Niall couldn't hide his enthusiasm either; he kicked his feet in the air. Ethan grabbed the blanket and pulled it to cover Niall's entire body except for his head and neck.
"Hold tight because the ocean waves are going to be really crazy tonight!"
Niall giggled, but his voice was cut off when Ethan put his index finger to his lips and whispered, "Sshhh."
Niall widened his eyes. He imitated Ethan.
"Once upon a time, in the world's most mysterious hemisphere, there lived an old ship captain named Dan, along with his loyal crew."
Ethan got up and sat next to Niall. "One day, one of his loyal crew members brought captain Dan something really extraordinary. A map, not just an ordinary map. It's a map to a mysterious island that only appears on a full moon."
Odette stepped in and she decided to sit in Miles' chair. "I'm afraid of being splashed by seawater. I'll be soaking wet."
Ethan briefly glanced at Odette, causing the two sisters to laugh.
Ethan cleared his throat. "I'm sorry, it's unusual for the ocean to be filled with sea witches."
Liana and Odette furrowed their brows.
"Okay. So the captain, Dan, decided to raise his sails and set out for the seas that held many secrets within."
Ethan clenched one fist and hid behind it. "The first thing that Captain Dan and his crew encountered was an ancient sea monster, with a long neck, sticking out of the bottom of the ocean. But that ancient sea monster was no match for that tough old ship. That sea monster was successfully beaten back by the ship's cannon."
Niall clapped again, but the applause stopped because Ethan suddenly widened his eyes. "However, the struggle to find the treasure doesn't end there. They still have to fight another monster, which they thought was an island that only appeared on a full moon, which turned out to be a giant tortoise. Its shell planted with trees makes it look like a small island when the turtle is diving."
Ethan lay beside Niall, then he raised his clenched hands. "I am the evil giant tortoise. I will destroy that ugly boat in one bite."
His hand cupped Niall's face. A battle ensued between Ethan's and Niall's hands. The boy bit Ethan's hand, hitting it and pinching it gently.
"A-aah, no, I am a great giant tortoise that can't be beaten!"
Ethan's hand fell limply on Niall's stomach, he accidentally hit Miles, but fortunately, the child didn't wake up from his sleep.
"The captain, Dan, and his loyal crew came home with the treasure, gave it to all the villagers. They celebrated the victory. Then, after being tired of partying, the captain, Dan, went home."
Ethan stretched his arms and yawned. "The captain was so happy to see his bed, he immediately lay down and fell asleep. Zzzzz."
Ethan suddenly closed his eyes and pretended to fall asleep on Niall's shoulder. Niall followed exactly as Ethan did. He stretched his arms, made a short snoring sound, then suddenly closed his eyes.
Odette patted Liana's shoulder when she heard Niall's soft snoring. A little surprised that Ethan managed to make Niall fall asleep that fast.
"We should move to your room, you know, just in case one of us accidentally makes a loud noise."
Liana nodded. She walked towards Ethan while Odette stepped towards the door.
Liana lightly tapped Ethan's shoulder. "Ethan, let's move to my bedroom."
But there was no reply from him. Liana looked at Odette, who laughed.
"Seriously, he falls asleep too?"
