Daria's POV My eyes met Zack's, around whose arms Vitoria was swathed like a serpent. From the stairwell landing, they both looked at me with disgust and hatred. Zack's stare made my insides burn. What shocked me, though, was that Gia, my wolf, was not reacting. Normally, when Gia saw her mate, she would have waved her tail. My wolf was missing, and that frightened me. Natalie and Chloe were following us when Tyler grabbed my upper arm and forced me to move. His fingers were terribly deep in my skin. As I was pulled into the house, I bowed my head. As soon as we entered the main hall, I saw Alpha Fenrir seated with three dapper men wearing suits. There was an armed guard behind Alpha Fenrir. Standing beside the window with his back to us, seemingly deep in contemplation, was a tall, robust man. He had on a black shirt that hung loosely over his shoulders and was paired with blue pants. His long, black hair cascaded down to his collar in large curls. "Ah, there she is!" Fenrir exhaled a sigh of comfort. My heart began to thump strongly. I froze there, even as the Lycan turned to stare at me. Even when I met his piercing green eyes, He was quite attractive. This Lycan was God, if Zack was an angel. He was more attractive and taller. I was frozen in place by his intense stare until Tyler prodded me along. Fenrir introduced me to Tyler Johnson, saying, "This is Daria, daughter of Tyler Johnson." Tyler and I stood there as the Lycan assessed me with his gaze, as though examining his livestock. "And this is Alpha Derek, the Lycan King of the Veil," Alpha Fenrir informed me, as though information of that sort were important. Derek drew us closer together. He was here, unlike the savage, caveman-like person I had expected to meet. So striking, so gorgeous. But the Lycan appeared to be a cold-blooded, merciless killer. Maya was accurate. If the Lycan got anywhere close to me, I was prepared to run. Nobody had the courage to approach him or even be in his direct line of sight. My father even took a backseat. Derek leaned in my direction, and I stopped where I was. Derek's perspective I'm an active Alpha. My folks may have lived in the Veil, but that didn't mean I wasn't involved in human commerce. I operated a lot of enterprises. Actually, I was an industry tycoon. The werewolves, in particular, were the only ones who were truly unaware of it. We were a wealthy, close-knit group of people that resided in the Veil for certain purposes. I had gone straight to Alpha Fenrir's house, the location of the exchange, when I arrived at the Crescent Pack to meet my breeder. I had to take the breeder with me after signing a few papers and depositing $100,000 into Fenrir's account. I was speaking with Fenrir when I suddenly noticed a peculiar smell. With satisfaction, my beast let out a snarl as my eyes lowered to half-mast. My pleasure tingled all the way down to my c**k, making it painfully erect, and I let out a quiet groan as it did. I heard a soft heartbeat at the same moment. For me, it acted as a metronome. I was unable to sit in my assigned spot with everything going on. Suddenly I was on my feet, heading to the window where the fragrance was strongest. This smell was beginning to almost taste on my tongue. Anticipating something, I began to chew the temple tip of my goggles and glance out at people. I wanted to reach out to whoever was in charge of this fragrance and then leap out of the window. My friend. Inside of me, my beast roared, eager to change. However, I pushed him aside out of concern that they would exploit him if they learned that my partner was in the Crescent Moon pack and so close by. I was aware of Alpha Fenrir's depravity. It was best to hold off until the breeder arrived. Then, with an excuse, I would reject her and go locate my mate. Suddenly, the door to the room opened, and I met the most stunning blue eyes I had ever laid eyes on. My throat was caught with my breath. Everything in my life focused on the small, skinny girl wearing a bridal dress who was waiting at the entrance. My heart ached to see how pale, afraid, and undernourished she appeared. I wanted to hold her and soothe her right away. The girl approached me with her parents in tow. "This is Daria," she was introduced to by Alpha Fenrir. She didn't respond when I stared at her, as if trying to gauge how she felt. I should have smelled bad to her. That was strange. I, however, kept this to myself. I'd heard from my sources that she was Zack's mate, but instead of the mate the Moon Goddess had selected for him, the stupid guy had taken a bite out of his old school sweetheart. I couldn't help but feel thrilled about it. She was my mate, and I had one more reason to keep that a secret. Until I brought her to the veil, that is. I watched as Daria stood in front of me, her terrified eyes wide. "So, this is the offering," I said in a powerful, loud voice. I looked at her from head to toe, evaluating her as though she were a valuable asset. "You know, Tyler Johnson's daughter? It appears that your father is eager to get rid of you." Assemble your documentation. I responded, nonchalantly glancing over her body and evaluating her profile. "I will sign them," I said. My eyes fell on her neck, and I noticed crimson finger prints there. From within, a roar came. "How did you get those?"
