Episode 6

DAPHNE I stay frozen in place because I still can’t believe he’s actually questioning me right now. How dare he? I don’t have the strength to face him or argue at the moment, but I’m furious. I turn around to face his annoying expression. He’s standing right there with both hands in his pockets, looking at me as if he didn’t just piss me off. “Why should I tell you where I’m going?” I ask. “Is that supposed to be a question, or are you just not smart?” he asks calmly. I frown immediately. This is what I hate most about Kane Ambrose, his ability to stay completely calm in every situation. I’m angry, my heart is racing, and yet he stands there looking unruffled, as if I’m the problem. “I’m asking you where the f**k you think you’re going dressed like that,” he says. He actually sounds serious. In fact, this might be the first time I’ve seen him look this serious. “I’m going out with my friend…” “You’re not leaving this house in that dress, Daphne,” he says. “And why should I listen to you?” I glare at him. “You’re going to listen to me, or you don’t come back into this house once you’re out.” My eyes widen. “How dare you! Threatening me like I begged you to marry me? You brought a woman into the house just yesterday and she was acting like your actual wife. Now I’m trying to go out and have fun, and you’re the one with a problem?” I snap. He remains standing there, looking completely unbothered. This motherfucker. “I don’t have a problem with you going out to have fun, Daphne. I don’t care. But not in that dress. And I’m not going to force you to take it off either.” He smirks, then turns and walks away before I can say another word. I bite my lip so hard it hurts. Mia is already waiting outside. I hate that I’m actually listening to Kane, but this stupid marriage can’t end after just a few days. As much as I want to kill him, I still have my parents to think about. So yeah. I hurry upstairs, walk into my room, and dig through my wardrobe. I smile when I find a pair of tight, butt-hugging jeans. These are sexy. I take off the dress, pull on the jeans, and pair them with a denim top. I fix my hair and swap my shoes for boots. The final look is perfect, I actually end up loving it more—but still, f**k Kane a billion times. I’m going to have so much fun tonight and forget he exists. At least for a few hours. I leave my room and head downstairs. Kane is nowhere in sight to notice that I’ve changed, but who cares? I roll my eyes and walk out of the house. “You look so hot!” Mia screams the moment I open the car door. “Thanks, babe.” I smile and climb in. “So where are we going?” I ask as she starts driving. “I honestly have no idea, but let’s explore. I want somewhere I can get food, by the way.” She rubs her stomach and I laugh. “Actually? Me too. I’m starving,” I mutter. My stupid brain chooses that exact moment to think about Kane. I don’t know why I should give a f**k whether he’s eaten or not. But who am I kidding? He probably already ate with his side piece. Or maybe she’s his girlfriend. Our marriage came out of nowhere, after all. No. He’s not decent enough to have a girlfriend. She was definitely just a slut. No other way around it. *** Mia ends up driving us to a barbecue place. We order a full chicken barbecue and bottles of wine. I don’t remember the last time I had wine, or anything alcoholic, for that matter—but every time I think about Kane’s face and the woman he brought home last night, I feel like drinking until I erase the memory. The fact that I’m still going back home to him only makes the anger worse. This is a cage. I hate it so much. I sigh and take another sip from my wine glass, glancing around the place. More people are still coming in even though it’s already around ten. We should leave once Mia gets back from the restroom. I’m still thinking about that when someone sits down beside me. I raise a brow. It’s a young man, probably in his late twenties or early thirties. From the way he’s dressed, he looks expensive. “Hi, beautiful.” He smiles, showing off a single dimple. He’s the complete opposite of Kane. His brown hair almost looks golden under the light, and his whole expression gives off a soft, easy vibe, unlike someone I know. “Hi,” I say. “I’m Aiden. What about you, beautiful?” He smiles again. “Do you go around calling every girl beautiful? It doesn’t work on me, by the way.” I take another sip of wine and silently hope Mia comes back soon. I’m starting to feel a little tipsy. Thank goodness she already called a driver, she must have known she’d be drinking hard tonight. “I don’t call anyone beautiful unless they actually are. And you’re incredibly gorgeous, sweetheart,” Aiden says. Just like his hair, his eyes are a golden brown. Even his brows are perfect. He looks like something out of a fairytale. “I’m Daphne,” I finally say. I don’t think he’s planning to leave me alone anyway. “Pretty name. Mind if I get to know you better…?” “Why?” “Because I like you. I’ve been watching you all night from my table,” Aiden replies. “Hmm.” I nod and let out a small chuckle. I spot Mia coming back. The silly girl throws me a naughty smirk, but I stand up and grab my bag. “Maybe if we meet again. I have to go home,” I say. “Oh, come on.” He stands up as well. “Your number, then? Please.” For a second, I think about Kane. Maybe I should tell this guy I’m married. But f**k that. After he brought that woman into the house last night, he needs to feel that he’s not the prize he thinks he is. So I smile at Aiden’s pleading expression. “Fine,” I say. “Thank you.” His smile grows even brighter.
