CHAPTER FOUR
“Maybe its because most guys are jerks and I don’t need to go out with them to know, after all I’m psychic.” She said.
“So you mean every man you’ve ever met is a jerk.” Olly said emphasizing the word ‘every.’
“All except you.” Val said and a smile sneaked its way onto Olly’s face though he was trying hard not to blush, was she hitting on him. She then said with a smirk on her face, “I don’t know maybe I am.”
He tried to ignore her statement, “Every man even Josh.”
“As I said Josh is more of a brother to me. I don’t see him any other way. So you’re going to ignore the fact that I might be hitting on you huh?” he kept quiet and she continued, “so I guess Liv already won.”
‘You have just known me for like a day,’ he thought.
“I’ve known you from the moment you found out you liked Liv, when you were 15,”she said.
Well to be honest he also couldn’t over look they way he felt like he’s known her all his life or the fact that he felt electric sparks fly between them but at the same time he felt butterflies when he was with Liv. He wondered how he could feel butterflies for one girl and sparks for the other, he just knew her for less than 24 hours even if she was the voice he had heard every time he thought he was going crazy. The voice that had told him he wasn’t crazy every time he’s doctors said that there was no hope for him. He started to wonder what if he had never taken those pills maybe he’d be with her all this time. She had heard his thoughts but pretended she didn’t hear anything but she felt the same about him to be honest but what they felt for each other wasn’t love it was just a faint and not so clear emotion they felt when they were alone. Her and Olly had some weird telepathic connection.
They had walked around for some time when they finally came back to the lounge. It was almost midday and he had made plans with Liv.
Mean while, in some facility that looked like a lab there were doctors doing some tests on a girl. She looked to be in her late teens. She looked really drained of energy and sickly. A man wearing an all blue suit walked in and said, “Is she ready?”
One of the doctors said, “She’s still mastering the next sense?”
The man in the suit asked, “How long?”
“Give us a month,” another doctor said.
He nodded but he clearly didn’t seem like the patient type and whatever he was waiting for he didn’t want to. He watched them do brain scans on her. Then he left.
“Do you really think she’ll be ready in a month?” a doctor asked.
“I don’t know but she better be or else the boss might strap each one of us into these chairs,” He said pointing at the chair the girl was in. It looked like those chairs in the dentist’s office. “and pull our teeth out.” He finished talking.
After the doctor spoke, they all went back to work.
Olly had already left the underground lounge and was at Liv’s place. Liv lived alone in a two bedroom house, which looked nice and too good to be owned by a girl her age. It was actually expensive but she was paying for the rental fee herself. It had a beautiful kitchen across the dining room. Her and Olly both worked on an online computer programming site and it was really well paying. They were both brilliant students. It was a little passed midday and Liv was in the kitchen making them lunch while Olly stood by the kitchen counter and helped pass her an ingredient here and there.
“So where did you go all day?” Liv asked?
“I was with a friend.”
“This friend has a name…?”
“It isn’t important. So how is your day so far?” he changed the topic and Liv noticed that her questions made him tense so she didn’t push it. She was out of the kitchen and they ate together in silence until Liv broke the quiet.
“Uhmmmm…Olly there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you.” She thought to herself ‘what better time there is to tell him how I feel than now.’ Olly could perfectly read her mind now though he refrained from giving her thoughts too much attention. Every time he heard her thoughts, he was obviously curious but felt like he was violating some kind of law against her privacy.
“No need to tell me,” he said
He had been hearing glimpses of her thoughts now and then, so he had figured out what she wanted to say. Olly was one of those people who believed in true love. Who believed that love should be sincere and honest. At that moment he no longer knew if he’s love for her was sincere anymore. I mean he never really agreed with the whole love at first sight idea but he was now feeling something for Val. There’s a way she stared at him with those light brown eyes. Her rosy lips. Her thick lashes. Everything about her ignited crazy feelings with in him, feelings he was ignoring for now.
“Do you know what I’m about to tell you?” she asked obviously looking displeased by the fact that he stopped her when she had worked up the guts to tell him. She decided to ignore what he said and just tell him.
“Oliver,” she used his full name, “I love you and I have for a long time but I didn’t know how to say it or show it. I tried all sorts of absurd things to get you into telling me you loved me too, like being with Brad but you always simply looked the other way and now I want to tell you that I have loved you for what seems like a life time. Now, I think I’m losing you to someone else.” After saying what she said, she looked at him. She looked into his eyes hoping to get some opposition on the last statement she made but the look in his eyes didn’t confirm her statement nor oppose it, so she could just hope for his answer to be honest.
“Liv, I have also loved you for such along time but with you, there was always another guy. I met a girl,” he said looking down, “I don’t know what I feel for her but I wouldn’t want to tell you that I’m all yours cause that would be a lie and I never want to lie to you.”
Liv looked at him with her own selfish desires playing at the back of her mind. ‘Come on Olly, its me, your Liv. Just choose me,’ she thought to herself but she loved him and she wouldn’t want him to be with her partially but completely so it was better he first got his emotions in check. They ate in silence while Olly restrained himself from listening to her thoughts. This was the day he had been waiting for, for her to tell her she so much in love with him but the day came too late when Val was too much into the picture.
He looked at her looking for any words of comfort he could tell her but he couldn’t find the right words. So he just said it, “But I do love you Liv.” That was all he said.
