“Oh! Out of all that was going on I forgot to tell you that he went on a business trip for a month. So please stay.”
“Ok,” he said and she got comfortable in his chest. They lay next to each other for some time until they were both hungry and had to eat something so they both dressed up and move down to the kitchen and prepared a light dinner. When they were done they sat down and ate together. They were quiet for sometime until she broke the silence, “Are you really fine?”
She had never seen him so emotional than he was right now. She was deeply worried about him. Rick was one of those who really needed attention or else he might go and do something stupid, after all he was the youngest son.
“I am okay despite everything going on,” he reassured her.
Time passed by real fast. It was now Saturday morning. It was 8 am and Olly had just woken up. He was in Val’s bed, they had spent the night together. Her back was against his chest and his arms were around her waist while her hands held his.
‘Oh no! No! No! What have I done?’ he thought to himself.
She was awake the whole just enjoying his body against hers. So she had read his mind.
“And here I was under the impression that you had enjoyed yourself last night,” she said.
He didn’t know what to say. Had he enjoyed himself? Yes he had. Was this a mistake? Not one he would regret. Was this right? No, he also had feelings for Liv and this wouldn’t be fair whatsoever on her side. He had known Val only 3 days. This was going on so fast.
“I’m sorry I led you on last night but this wasn’t supposed to happen,” he said.
“You know I can read your thoughts right?” she replied.
“Well I’m serious this wasn’t supposed to happen.”
“Well it did and we’re both living with that. Don’t tell me you didn’t feel a thing.”
He knew she could read his mind and was trying to block her out but she was stronger than him. He wanted to say that it hadn’t meant anything to him but lying to a telepath was basically just fooling oneself.
“It meant more than the world to me but it should have never happened,” he said.
She had felt what you would call love at first sight for him and it hurt her that he regretted what they had done.
“I don’t care if it was a mistake on your part but I was well aware of everything I was doing last night. I have been fearing and fighting this but last night I proved it. I have feelings for you Olly and I know you do too,” she told him.
He didn’t know what to say. She was right, he had feelings for her too but Liv was in the picture.
“I also have feelings for you but you are well aware that Liv is also in my heart.”
“Yes, I do.”
“Then you must also be aware that Liv isn’t a bad person and if I chose you over her that would hurt her and vice versa.”
“You know you’ll have to choose someday.”
“And when that time comes I’ll make the right decision but that time isn’t now so for now thus never happened.”
She nodded not that she wanted to forget what they had done but because he was right and hurting someone in the process was never her intention. Olly stood up and got dressed he worked out the building and drove home. His mom was in the kitchen.
“Sweetie, is that you?” she asked him as she heard the door open.
“Yes mom.”
“I was just making breakfast are you hungry.”
“Yap!”
I’m a few minutes she had set everything up at the dining table and they were having breakfast.
“Is Rick here?” Olly asked.
“I think he’s still at Kathy’s.” his mom told him.
She seemed happier today. Yesterday she looked and spoke like her world was over and to her, her husband and her kids were her world and she had lost a third of that world. No one could blame her if she took years to calm down but it seems she had really good ways of dealing with grief.
“Mom you seem happier today,” he spoke as if asking something.
“Well I realized that my world will never be complete without your dad in it but two thirds of my world are still here with me, you and your brother, so I will try to be happy with you two.”
“That’s good, mom.”
She looked at him and smiled. Rick walked into the door and he saw his brother and mom both happy and he was glad. He joined them and his mom served him. He joined in on the conversation and in no time they were laughing together just like they did every time dad cracked one of his usual morning jokes.
In the afternoon, their mom hired a hearse and had a coffin made. She was handling everything pretty well for a one day widow. Everything was ready by evening time and the next day they went to the cemetery. Everyone knew Olly’s dad. His dad’s family, the staff at Olly’s school came, his work mates, his boss, Olly’s friends and his dad’s friends too. Everyone who meant so much to his father or who his father meant so much too was there. The priest gave his summon and our mom gave a speech on behalf of the family.
“Cole Crassus was the best husband, loving son, amazing father and most wonderful friend. The world has suffered a lot to lose a fine soul like his and there is no replacing him in all out hearts. If he were here, he would probably say something witty and funny like, ‘your wasting my retirement savings on a party where everyone cries.’” The crowd laughed cause knowing Cole he would say something like that. Olly’s mom, Alexa continued, “We won’t be the same without his big smile and jokes to cheer up our spirits every time we’re down. We will miss you abundantly for eternity, Rest in peace, Cole Crassus.”
