Chapter 2

"I'm looking for my father." I tell him with a steady voice. At least I hoped it was steady. He looked surprised by this, like actually took a step or two back from me. He looks at me again, this time like he knows me. Which is weird, I've never seen this man. "What is your name girl?" He asked me. So I tell him, " Name's Evelyn Evergreene sir." He then again looks taken aback. "As in Amelia Evergreene?" He asks me. Now it's my turn to look shocked. "How do you know my mothers name? Did you hurt her? Or worse?" I'm charging at him. How dare he know my mother and hurt her! How freaking dare he! He stops me before I can lay a fist on him. "No girl! I didn't hurt her. She died before I got back home. She had my child, which I thought died along with her. But, here you are." "Yes. Here I am. So you didn't think to check for yourself? You just assumed?" Im hurt. Actually, beyond hurt by this. Here I thought my father didn't exist and here he was all this time assuming I was dead! Before he can answer I turn around and storm away. Trying to get off the godforsaken ship. But then again I run into a brick wall. Actually is wasn't a brick wall but another man. Mentally slapping my hand over my forehead thinking here we go again.. "Who's this, captain?" The guy I ran into says. "My daughter." Is all he says and he says this like he's sad. Why? Why does he get to be sad? He has no right. I turn around ready to charge again when the man behind me speaks up. "So, finally found her huh? After what, 15 years?" I stop, dead in my tracks. He actually was looking for me? I look at him surprised. "Yes. Before you went storming off child, I was going to tell you that I never stopped looking for you." "Maybe you should've led with that. You pissed me off when you said you thought I was dead. Nope very much alive sir." I said with sarcasm dripping from my voice. He looked at me with amusement and the man behind me was laughing. "Spit fire. I like it." He continued to laugh and my father laughed to. "Okay, so, I found you. I'm here. Now what? You're just gonna leave aren't you?" I accused him. He shakes his head at me, looking in disbelief that I would think he's leaving me. "No girl. You're coming with. Gives us plenty of time to catch up for lost time." "Fine. But, I have rules. Number 1: I'm not a slave or maid or anything these people can boss around. I can do what I'm told but I'm no slave. Treat me as such, and you'll wish you never told me I could stay. Living on the street is better than being a maid to disgusting men." He looked at me expectantly, "Alright then. Well, let's introduce you to the crew. You've already met first mate Jason." I turn around to look at him. This time I get a good look. He can't be older than 23 he looks too young to be a first mate. He must of sensed my questions because Jason spoke up, "I've known captain since I was 12. We've traveled together for some time now and now I'm first mate. None of the other guys are as young as me. The youngest in the crew to be exact." I snort and roll my eyes. Whatever. "You'll get to meet the others soon, but first, do you have anything you need to grab back home? Like money or somethin'." I shake my head, "I don't have a home. Livin on the streets since I was about 13." He looked proud that I made it on my own and am still alive. Well as proud as he can be for just finding out his daughter was alive and real. "Alrighty then mates. Let's get ready to set sail!" And with this he walked out of the cabin leaving me and his first mate Jason to talk. I held my hand up when he was about to speak. "Don't care what you have to say. Spit fire and all. Just leave me alone and you'll never know I'm here." I say in honesty. So many emotions go through his features. Adoration, suspicion, and two others that I can't quite understand. "I was going to say, welcome aboard m'lady." He turns to walk out but I hear him say, "This is going to be an interesting trip with spit fire." I roll my eyes like he could see me. Ugh! Men and their minds are so confusing. At least he ain't hit on me yet. I laugh at this. Soon someone walks in the cabin and is shocked to see a girl inside. "Girl, what are you doing? Do I need to through you off the ship?" He practically yelled at me. Ugh rude. "No I—" I'm cut off by hun grabbing me, "I don't give a s**t who you are. You're leavin and ain't staying girl." This man drags me to the side of the boat by the docks but before he could toss me off the boat someone grabs me and hauls me backward behind them. Then punched the daylights out of the man that grabbed me. Holy s**t balls! But it only got worse from there...
