The black steed was found nibbling grass near one of the farm buildings in Preston. An immediate search for his owner proved fruitless. A very sad and worried family went to their beds that evening. The whole of the next day passed without any news of Denzil Stickles. Preston became master of his father's domain, and he was well pleased.
The romance between Sowenna and John Vale Jr. lasted throughout the month of July. They met secretly, beside streams in various woods not far from Godref Rowynek. Sowenna's mother had no control of her affairs and up until this point Denzil had had other matters to deal with. Preston went along with the venture because he knew in the end it would bring Vale's downfall and his sister would be free to tantalize another.
