Chapter 3: Broken Mate

Everyone was staring at me, the king had growled lowly at me after my respect confession and I sighed, surprising everyone. Darren jumped from his mom and ran over to me.

"You weren't kidding Ally!" He said jumping on me. I caught him and held him on my hip.

"Why would I joke about that little guy?" I said looking at him.

"I don't know to make yourself look cool." He said. I smirked, but before I could speak I was cut off.

"Kidding about what?" King Derrick growled. Darren tensed a bit and I glared at the king earning a look of surprise from everyone, yet again.

"Ally said she doesn't get scared to me in the car." Darren said lightly. 

"Is that so?" The king asked looking at me. 

"I haven't felt fear since the day I watched my father die." I said firmly. Nora and Robert looked at the ground. Darren hugged my neck while his mother walked over to the king.

"Why?" She asked, her dirty blonde hair blowing in the breeze.

"I wanted to be like him. He jumped between our alpha and the rouge without fear. I remember throwing myself into his dead body and promising him, I would be fearless and take care of my mother for him." I said in an even tone. "I already broke one half of that promise as my mother died a few days later from her injuries."

"How old?" The queen whispered.

"I was 10, my older brother 12." I was calm, no trace of emotion on the outside, but inside I wanted to curl into a ball and cry for days. I hardly ever talk about my parents.

"That is horrible, I wouldn't live without my mummy and daddy." Darren was crying into my neck, I rubbed his back and leaned my head on his. 

"It's all good little one. I still had my brother Adam. He is like my dad now, I even live with him and his mate!"

"You don't have a mate?" The queen asked. 

"No, this is my first time leaving my pack, I was dating the Alpha, but he found his mate and he is happy, so I decided to travel before I accidentally killed him." 

"Why would you do that?" The king asked, his golden and hazel eyes bore into mine.

"He always told me he would find his mate and reject her because he loved me. I believed him, stupidly, and when he found her he decided, to mark and mate her and call me to his office while they were busy. Then he decided to show up at my house and make it worse for himself by calling me insignificant." I said coldly.

"That bloody wanker!" The queen cried out. The king looked at her shocked. I laughed very loudly making everyone smile.

"Those aren't the words I used, but close." I laughed out. 

"Well Allison on behalf of the royal family would you like to stay with us for a while?" The queen asked smiling.

"I would be honored your majesty." I said bowing, still holding Darren who was giggling.

"Mum, you never told Ally your name." Darren said jumping off of me.

"Oh my heavens you're correct." She gasped. "Sorry darling, I'm Bethany."

"That is alright. There was a lot going on my queen, you don't have to apologize." I said giggling. 

"Well you must be exhausted, Nora darling, show Allison to a room please." The queen said taking Darren's hand and the king's and walking away. I giggled as the young prince jumped on his mom. I grabbed my suitcase from the SUV and followed Nora to a beautiful bedroom. I explored the room, finding the bathroom then i grabbed my pajamas. I took a quick shower using whatever soaps were there, I brushed my teeth and brushed out my hair leaving it down. I pulled on an Adam shirt with a pair of grey underwear, and black shorts. I walked to the bed and grabbed my phone, I turned it on and turned on my wifi. 10 more texts from Garrett came in with 17 missed calls. I ignored them all, and skyped Adam. He answered on the third ring.

"Hey big brother!" I said, he was sitting under a tree i think, he looked tired, but he smiled at me anyway.

"Hey Al! how is your adventure so far?" 

"Great! I met this really cute guy on the plane, he lives in a large house, he even invited me to stay with him." I said waggling my eyebrows.

"Bullshit! Tell the truth!" He said laughing.

"I am, that cute guy may be like six, but i'm staying with his family, because he is my new BFF. We both know I need it." I said shrugging my shoulders.

"Speaking of, Garrett is freaking out, he thinks you left for good. Sophia has been trying to calm him down but it's not working."

"That's not my problem, Garrett decided to be an ass, this is what he gets. Maybe he will learn, maybe not I don't know and I honestly don't care." I say coldly.

"Brrrr. How is the room you're not covered in ice, cuz i can feel the cold from here honey." Brayden says joining Adam.

"I may sound cool, but my hot bod evens it out." I say sending them into a laughing fit. 

"I didn't need to hear that Ally!" Adam cried.

"Are you talking to Allison!?" I heard Garrett yell. Then I'm looking at him.

"Give me back to Adam, I don't wanna talk to you!" I said firmly.

"Please Ally, come home, I swear I'll be a good friend, pretty please." He was begging me. He looked like a wreck, his copper hair was messy and uncombed, his dark blue eyes had bags underneath them. 

"Something else is happening, what is it?" I had a gut feeling, Garrett only gets this way when he has to go to Black-paw pack lands. Their Alpha Riot is known to be a real asshole, he is only nice to a certain few people. 

"Black-paw's Alpha and Beta are coming here next weekend. You have no idea how intimidating they are Ally, I'm freakin out!"

"I see that. I'm still pissed at you but I'll be there. Don't do anything stupid asshole, now give me back to Adam." I say. I'm kinda happy Riot is headed to our home, someone can finally put Garrett in his place.

"How did you know it was something other than you bothering him?" Adam asked.

"Because I know him too well, thats how, and he only gets that stressed when it comes to Riot."

Adam, Brayden and I talked for another hour about random things before I hung up and fell asleep. All night I dreamed of Jinx running through the woods, she was happy and she felt complete, There was a blur beside us and we yipped happily at it. It was our mate, we were running with our forever. Just then our mate fell and we cried out.

I woke up screaming in pain, sweat pouring off my face. I grabbed my stomach and doubled over, I dry heaved and The king ran in, I heard humming in my ears, but I kept crying out in pain. When the pain subsided I layed on my bed shaking. Jinx was crying out in my head.

Jinx what just happened.

(Our mate, was killed, we never met him and now he is dead) She whimpered and pulled away from me, shutting me out. I felt hot tears roll down my face as her words registered. Another fallen feather fir.

"Allison?" I heard the king ask.

"He's dead, our mate, he's gone, and we never even met him." I whimpered. I felt myself get pulled into a hard chest and I began to sob. I reached for my phone and with shaky hands I called Adam. He picked up on the second ring.

"Ally?" He asked confused, a sob escaped me and he realized I was crying. "Ally what happened?"

"m-m..." was crying to hard to explain.

"She lost her mate, she felt him die." The king spoke for me. Adam gasped and shook his head.

"Oh god, Ally, I'm flying to you. Uh... sir can you give me your address? I'll be there in like eleven hours."

"I'll have a car meet you at the airport, we will keep her safe until you arrive."

"Thank you. Ally you hold on I'll be there soon okay." I nodded and he hung up. The queen came in and took my hand. I was shaking and crying, eventually I cried myself to sleep again. I saw Jinx laying on the ground, I tried to go to her, but I couldn't I was pulled away by someone. 

"Stop please, Jinx needs me, Please!" I cried out. I was spun around to face one of the most stunning woman ever. Her skin was super pale, but her hair was dark as the night sky, her eyes looked like little moons.

"My child, you cannot lay with your wolf, if you do, your body will drift into a comatose state. You will leave your brother alone, which you swore to me you would never do."

"I hate to be selfish, but what about me. I lost both of my parents, my best friend, boyfriend, and my mate. My brother has his other half, he has a lot of friends. I only have him and Jinx, after this i may not even have her. We are broken, our forever was just ripped away from us." i said sadly.

"No, it wasn't, you still have a forever Allison, your second chance is waiting for you, just don't give up."

"Okay. Thank you goddess." I said, knowing we have a second chance calmed me down a lot. I was ripped away from the dream to find myself in Adam's arms. He was stroking my hair and holding me super tight. I cried on his shoulder as the pain from last night hit me again.

"It will be okay Ally." He whispered against me.

"I know Adam." I whispered back. "The moon goddess appeared to me in my dream."

He pulled back and looked into my eyes. "She did."

"She said I have a second chance Adam, my forever isn't lonely anymore." I said as a few tears slipped from my eyes. 

"Ally that is amazing! I'm so relieved, I feared i would never get a cute niece or nephew." 

"I'm sorry Adam."

"Why?" He gave me a confused look.

"I almost let you, if the moon goddess hadn't stopped me I would be lying with Jinx mourning our loss together." I said looking down at my hands.

"It's okay Al, If something like this happened to me, I'm sure I would want to be with Clay."

The door to the room flew open and Darren jumped on the bed an into my arms.

"Are you okay Ally?" He cried into my neck.

"I am now that my prince charming is here." I said squeezing him in a hug. "Adam this is Prince Darren, he is the cutie I met on the plane yesterday."

"Prince! My goddess woman you leave for less than 24 hours and you already met the royal family. Pinch me. I must be dreaming." He said surprised. Darren obliged and pinched him. He yelped and rubbed his arm. King Derrick and Queen Bethany walked in slowly looking tense, they calmed down seeing I was sitting up and not bawling.

"How are you feeling Allison?" Derrick asked.

"I'll be okay. I have a second chance at forever waiting for me. I just have to find him." I said making them smile lightly.

"That is good to hear. Do you feel alright enough for breakfast?" Bethany asked.

"Please Ally?" Darren asked giving me puppy eyes.

"Only if I get to sit next to you." I said looking down at him. He squealed and hugged me tight again. I stood with him in my arms, Adam got up behind me and we all headed down to breakfast together. 

Adam and I stayed with the royal family for the rest of the week. Jinx came back, and Darren finally got to see her. Derrick let us train with his warriors while we stayed, he was shocked by the way we took on the largest and best of his fighters with no fear, and when we won, he was even more surprised. Adam and I continued to skype Brayden every night. He was pissed that Adam had left him alone, but when I explained it, he decided to give my big brother a pass. On the last day, Darren wouldn't let me go, he even rode with us to the airport and tried to leave with me. I told him I would visit soon and often, which satisfied him so he let go. Derrick and Bethany, became my friends and we decided to keep in touch which made little Darren do a happy dance. We all hugged good-bye and Adam and I went home.
