Introductions

Beth POV

My name is Beth, and I will be 18 years old in 3 months, but I'm not sure I am looking forward to my birthday. I know my mum will make a big deal about it, but as there is only the two of us and we have so little, I just want it to be another normal day, nothing special.

I live with my mum in the basement room of the largest and most expensive house in the whole of Moonstone Springs. We have lived there since I was a baby and my mum was offered the position of maid, cook and general dog's body for the Baines family that live above us.

To be fair, it’s not that bad. Mum cooks, cleans, and runs errands for the family and, in exchange, we have a roof over our heads, food in our bellies, clothes on our backs and the Baines even pay for my education at the private school in town. They also give my mum a small allowance each week, so that we can buy some essentials for ourselves.

The Baines are a very rich and well-to-do family. Mr Baines owns most of the properties in Moonstone Springs and Mrs Baines teaches Business Studies part-time at my school. They have two children: Connor and Crystal.

Connor is a couple of months older than me and in every single one of my classes. He looks like a Greek god with shoulder length, wavy golden-brown hair, brilliant blue eyes, and a smile that makes you melt. He has an athletic body with rippling muscles that strain against the shirt of his school uniform. All the girls at school fawn over him as if he is the last man on earth.

Crystal is a couple of years younger, but she is the prettiest girl in town. Her waist-long hair is platinum blonde in colour, and she has emerald green eyes in the most striking face out there. The only problem is that she is fully aware of how attractive she is. Whenever I pass her in the school corridor, she always has a different boy's tongue down her throat.

My days are monotonous, following the same routine with very little variation. I get up early with my mum to help her prepare breakfast for the Baines. Whilst my mum serves them, I rush around their bedrooms, making their beds and collecting their washing. Mum and I then have breakfast in the kitchen, before clearing everything away. I then get ready for school, saying goodbye to mum on the way out. I am always 30 minutes early for school, so that I can avoid everyone and catch up with my homework in the library before classes start.

At lunch, I am nearly always first in the queue in the cafeteria. I eat fast, so that I can spend as much time in the library as possible before classes resume. After the last class of the day, I spend another 30 minutes doing homework in the library before walking home. After I get changed, I help mum prepare the evening meal. My mum insists that I sit at the kitchen table and study for an hour or so before we eat our own meal and clean up.

Weekends are slightly different as there is no school. So I help my mum catch up with the cleaning she couldn't do during the week, like changing and washing the bedsheets, etc. Although the Baines insist that mum takes Saturday afternoons off, as they always eat out in the evening, we end up strolling around town buying essentials like the special soap mum insists that I use, before we have afternoon tea at a little café in the centre of town.

It’s not much of a life, but it is better than the life my mum had when my so-called father chucked her out so he could date someone else. What he didn't know was that she was 6 weeks pregnant with me at the time.

Connor POV

My name is Connor, and I will be 18 next month. I'm the son and heir to the Alpha of Moonstone pack. I can't wait until my birthday as I will finally be able to shift into my wolf. I can feel him inside me already, waiting to stretch his legs and run. Hopefully, I will also find my mate and the future Luna. The thought of meeting my mate has my nerves on edge. I just hope she's not one of the girls from school who fawn over me all the time vying for my attention and all because I will be the future Alpha, not because they like me for me.

I will eventually take over as Alpha when I am 21 and I just hope I will be as good an Alpha as my father. He is always there for the pack members, making them stronger, whilst my mum looks after their emotional wellbeing. I need a Luna like my mother, thoughtful and kind.

My thoughts wander to a girl I have seen at school, Beth. She's quiet and keeps to herself, but she is extremely pretty. She has dark brown curly hair, which she always wears in a ponytail. I don't know what colour her eyes are, as whenever I see her, she is either too far away or not looking towards me. Her school uniform is baggy, but I just know that it covers a body to die for.

The only problem with Beth, is that I have never spoken to her. Much to my sister’s dismay, I make sure we are at school 15 minutes early and I wait until the last minute to try and catch her before classes start, but she is always sitting at her desk when I enter the classroom. At lunch, by the time I escape from the herd of girls and make it to the cafeteria, she has already eaten and left. I have strolled around school several times but have never found where she spends her lunchtime. After school, I wait by my car for as long as I can stand Crystal's moaning and whining, but I never see her.

Most of the population of Moonstone Springs are werewolves, so every Saturday morning, everyone over 13 must attend the pack training session led by my dad and his Beta, but she is never there. I can only assume that she is not a wolf, but a human. But that doesn't stop my obsession with her. My best friend and Beta, David, has even tried to help me find information about her, but no one seems to know her at all.
